Mafia Kings: Adriano: Chapter 22
Mafia Kings: Adriano: Dark Mafia Romance Series #2
While Bianca and her mother were packing, Massimo took the opportunity to rip me a new asshole.
âWhat the fuck were you thinking?!â
âI told you, weâre not talking about this anymore.â
âYes we ARE,â Massimo snarled. âYouâre the capo of Florence â youâre supposed to look out for the family, not for some whore!â
I donât know why, but that enraged me. âSheâs not a WHORE.â
Massimo looked bewildered. âWhatâs gotten into you?! Youâve made every bad decision in the book tonight â â
âLike what?â I shot back.
âYou didnât go back to the house like Niccolo ordered â â
âWe wouldâve looked weak.â
âTo WHO?! Theyâre all dead!â
âWhich we wouldnât know if we hadnât gone to the safe house â which YOU didnât want to do.
âAnd we wouldnât know the Agrellas are dead if we hadnât gone to Fiesole, which YOU didnât want to do, either.
âThanks to ME, now we know thereâs somebody else out there who wants us dead.
âSo YEAH, I took some big risks â but every single one of them paid off.â
âYou got lucky,â Massimo said sourly.
âThree times in a row? Thatâs not luck; thatâs skill.â
âAnd thatâs delusional,â Lars said.
It was the first time heâd spoken since Iâd shot Sergio.
âOh, you too?â I snapped at him.
âThe smart play would have been to take Sergio alive. You just blew the best piece of intel we had.â
âHe couldâve killed the mother!â
âWhich would have been horrible, but sheâs not family, Adriano.â
I scoffed. âYou always talk about how you donât kill women or children â but youâre fine just standing by and letting somebody else kill them, huh?â
Lars narrowed his eyes. âFuck you.â
âNo, fuck you, man. Youâre a hired gun and this is family business, so stay the fuck out of it.â
Lars had a damn good poker face, but after nearly a year of living and fighting next to him, I knew him well â and I could tell by the look in his eyes that Iâd hurt him.
I immediately regretted it.
He said nothing, though, and I knew he wouldnât.
I was just about to take it back when Massimo shoved my shoulder.
âYou little shit!â he snarled. âLars has saved our lives a dozen times! Heâs as much a brother to me as you are, and heâs ten times smarter! How fucking dare you â â
I slammed Massimoâs arm away. âGet your fuckinâ hands off me!â
âThen get your fuckinâ act together!â
I stood there and looked at him coldly. âGo back home, Mass. Thatâs a direct order. Take the men and Biancaâs mother and go back home.â
Massimo scoffed. âAnd youâre gonna stay here and find the father.â
âYeah. I am.â
He shook his head. âYou donât deserve to be capo.â
âWell, I am. And until Dario changes that, youâre still under my command, and you still follow my orders.â
âWhat, like you followed Niccoloâs orders?â Massimo snapped.
âI went over Niccoloâs head to the don, and the don agreed with me,â I said in an ice-cold voice. âYouâre welcome to do the same.â
âI will,â Massimo snarled. He pulled out his phone and walked off into the kitchen.
I nervously watched him go. Iâd mouthed off again â and there was every chance in the world that Dario would cut me off at the knees and side with the others.
I mightâve just made a huge mistake.
I knew Iâd made another one just a minute before.
I looked over at Lars. ââ¦I shouldnât have what I said about you.â
That was as close to Iâm sorry as Iâd ever said in my life.
Lars looked at me for a long moment.
Then he said quietly, âYou can say whatever you want.â
His refusal to accept my apology just made me madder. âIt was the heat of the moment. I said some shit I didnât mean, thatâs all.â
âIf youâre going to be capo, thereâs going to be lots of âheat of the momentâ situations. Donât use that as an excuse.â
THAT pissed me off.
âYou know what? Fuck you,â I snarled. âGo back to Tuscany with the rest of them and fuck off.â
âWeâll see what Dario has to say,â Lars replied as he looked over at the kitchen.
I turned to see Massimo walking back towards us.
He looked sullen as hell as he shoved his phone back in his pocket.
My heart lifted, but I didnât let on. Instead I asked belligerently, âWell?â
Massimo wouldnât look at me. He focused on Lars instead. âThe don said Adrianoâs the familyâs representative in Florence⦠and what he says goes.â
Relief flooded my entire body.
At least one of my brothers had my back.
Lars nodded. âWell then, I guess weâre headed back home.â He turned to me. âUnless youâve changed your mind.â
âNo â I havenât,â I snarled.
âAlright,â Lars said. âThat settles it, then.â
âYeah, it does. Massimo, call Vincenzo and tell him to leave the bar. Lars, you call the warehouse and have everybody ready to pull out in 30 minutes. Iâll get the women and weâll go.â
