Chapter 1195
The Substitute Wife: My Poor Husband Is A Billionaire
Chapter 1195 Did You Cheat On Laney
Garrett could tell from the expressions on his parentsâ faces that his accusation got to the heart of the
matter.
The very existence of Laney seemed to have slipped out of Leo and Veraâs minds, as if her life and
death were of no importance to them whatsoever.
âGarrettâ¦â Vera tried to hold his hand, but Garrett recoiled from her touch, refusing to hear her
excuses.
âIâm utterly disappointed in you!â Following his words, Garrett promptly made his way into the elevator,
leaving his parents standing there with the weight of disappointment heavy on their faces.
Upon reaching Laneyâs ward, Garrett was met with the sight of Janet and Brandon standing outside her
room He hastily approached them, his mind focused solely on seeing Laney.
âWait!â Janetâs cold voice stopped Garrett in his tracks as he rushed towards Laneyâs ward. He turned
to face her, noticing her scrutinizing gaze that seemed to pierce through him. âWhy are you so late?
Laneyâs condition is critical. You should have been here earlier!â
Garrettâs mouth opened as if to speak, but he hesitated, unsure of where to begin. âIâ¦â
âWhat?â As soon as she noticed his facial expression, Janet immediately suspected that something
was amiss. âHave you been unfaithful to Laney?â
Garrett felt a sudden jolt in his chest and quickly refuted, âNo, I did not! How could I possibly cheat on
Laney! I had only intended to discuss business matters, but I unintentionally became intoxicated.â
As Janet gazed upon the guilty countenance of Garrett, she harbored doubts regarding the truthfulness
of his outlandish alibi.
Growing increasingly incensed, her voice escalated in volume as she bellowed, âGarrett! You had
better come clean and tell me the truth! You have no idea how much effort Laney put into giving birth to
your child, almost sacrificing her life, and yet you chose to fool around with someone else! How could
you do this to Laney?â
Garrett was overwhelmed with a deep sense of remorse and guilt when he found out that Laney had
nearly lost her life.
With bloodshot eyes, Garrett stood silently at the entrance of the hospital ward, unable to find the
words to express his emotions.
âJanet.â Soothingly, Brandon took Janetâs hand and advised her, âPlease try to stay calm. Laney is still
recuperating inside.â
âIt was all my fault,â With a sense of shame and anguish, Garrett averted his gaze and whispered. âBut
what exactly caused Laneyâs premature labor?â
Struggling to contain her fury, Janet spoke in a frigid tone. âThanks to your ex, Kailee. She asked Lola
and the attending physician to deliberately divert Ian, and then sent a care worker to tamper with the
floor of Laneyâs ward. When Laney tried to get out of bed, she slipped and fell, which ultimately led to
the premature labor.â
As Garrett listened attentively, his countenance grew increasingly grave. The intensity of his anger
caused his body to tremble involuntarily. He had never anticipated that so much could happen in the
few days he had been on the business trip.
Casting a frosty glance in his direction, Janet added, âHad Ian not been observant and noticed
something was amiss, we cannot even begin to imagine the consequences that might have ensued.â
âLola must pay for it. Iâll make sure she spends the rest of her life behind bars.â
With a cold glint in his eyes, Garrett added, âI will not let the attending physician off the hook either.â
Just as Janet was about to ask how to handle Kaileeâs involvement, a nurse suddenly emerged and
interrupted her, announcing, âThe patient is in stable condition now. Only one family member is
permitted to visit her for now.â Without another word, Garrett hastily strode past Janet and made his
way into the ward to see Laney.
The anesthesia had worn off and Laney had just awakened. Upon catching sight of Garrett, a faint
smile of joy bloomed across her wan and pallid face.
âGarrett⦠Youâre back? Have you seen the baby?â Garrett quickened his pace and tightly clasped her
hand in his own. Gazing upon her exhausted face, he was overwhelmed with guilt and could hardly
form a coherent sentence.
âLaney⦠Iâm so sorryâ¦â
Laney shook her head, smiling serenely, and reassured him, âItâs alright. Iâm feeling better now.â
She chuckled softly and remarked, âActually, you seem to be more disheveled than I am. Look, your
clothes and shoes are on the wrong way around.â
Observing Laneyâs weakened state and her attempt to comfort him, Garrett was consumed with even
greater feelings of remorse.
