Chapter 744 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
âThank you for the offer, Mr. Killian, but I canât accept such a precious gift.â Dahlia got over her surprise and became upset again. She hadnât even repaid Gavin for his earlier kindness, so how could she accept his Panax root?
âMs. Nicholson, a Panax root is meant to cure sic kness anyway. I donât need it for now. So you might as well use it to save someoneâs life. Think of it as an act of kindness.â Gavin smiled.
âBut-â Florence cut Dahlia off before she could refuse again. âDahlia, you should accept it. You can always repay the favor later.â
Florence kept/looking at Gavin eagerly. âSheâs right, Dahlia. Saving a life is much more important. Without this Panax root, what are we going to do about Sir Regulus?â Julie advised.
âButâ¦â Dahlia was at a loss for words. It would be difficult to repay the favor, but she had no choice but to accept the gift since Regulusâ life was at stake.
âMs. Nicholson, if you want to thank me, I do have a favor to ask,â Gavin suddenly said.
âWhat is it?â Dahlia raised an eyebrow.
âIâll be hosting a banquet at Viridian Hotel tonight, so Iâd like to invite you,â Gavin answered with a small smile.
âA banquet?â Dahlia hesitated before nodding in agreement. âItâd be my pleasure.â
Gavin had helped her a lot, so she couldnât refuse him.
âGreat. See you tonight.â Gavin smiled and left after chatting for a moment.
âWhat do you think of Mr. Killian, Dahlia?â Julie blurted out as soon as Gavin was gone.
âHeâs a general despite his young age, so heâs definitely an excellent person,â Dahlia responded casually.
âNot just that. I think he likes you.â Julie grinned teasingly.
âNonsense!â Dahlia glared at Julie. âWeâve just met. How can he like me?â
âWhy would he give you a Panax root if he didnât like you? He even invited you to his banquet. Isnât it obvious enough?â Julie pressed.
âButâ¦â Dahlia was speechless. She glanced at Dustin and let out a breath of relief when she
realized he didnât seem bothered.
âDahlia, Mr. Killian is young but accomplished. Heâs an excellent man thatâs hard to come by. Why donât you try and flirt with him a little? Who knows what might happen.â Florence had an eager expression.
If Dahlia were to marry a general, theyâd also gain fame. It would be more fame than what theyâd get if she married an aristocratic family. After all, being powerful was more important than being wealthy.
âMom, youâre doing it again!â Dahlia grumbled.
âHavenât you gotten over Rhys yet?â Florence glared at Dustin disdainfully. âHe knows that you need a Panax root, but he wonât give it to you. Whatâs the point of keeping a man like him?â
âExactly!â Julie nodded. âYou saw how that guy refused despite how we begged him, yet Mr. Killian, whom we barely know, was willing to help us. Canât you see whoâs the better choice?â
Dahlia frowned when she heard this. After comparing the two men, she realized that Dustin seemed much more selfish than Gavin.
âAre you going to believe him when youâve only met him once?â Dustin suddenly asked.
âAre we supposed to believe you, then? What makes you think youâre trustworthy?â Florence snapped.
âSheâs right. Mr. Killian not only saved Dahlia, but he also helped us in times of need. What about you? What have you done?â Julie sneered.
âFirst, he saved you. Now, heâs gifting you a Panax root. Donât you think this is too much of a coincidence?â Dustin asked.
âWhat do you mean?â Dahlia raised an eyebrow.
âYou donât know who that man is or his intentions, so you shouldnât trust him so easily,â Dustin warned.
âHmph! I bet youâre just jealous.â Julie jeered. âYouâre jealous that heâs better and more powerful than you!â
âItâs bad enough that youâre useless, but how dare you insult Mr. Killian! Youâre despicable!â Florence yelled.
