Chapter 1612
When Love Comes Late
After saying this, she got out of the car and walked into the restaurant.
Matthew followed behind her.
Inside the restaurant, Devyn was talking and laughing with her friends.
She happily accepted everyoneâs congratulations.
But when she raised her head and saw Stella, the smile on her face froze.
Her expression gradually became strange.
Matthew noticed the change in Devynâs expression, but he didnât say anything.
Devyn immediately calmed down as if nothing had happened.
She greeted Stella stiffly, âStella⦠What a coincidence! You are here too.
â
Stella didnât pay much attention to Devynâs reaction.
She walked up to Devyn and said with a smile, âI happened to pass by and saw you, so I came to congratulate you.
â
Her eyes moved to the glass in Devynâs hand.
She asked, âAre you holding a celebration party? Why didnât you invite me? I sent you a message earlier.
Didnât you receive it?â
A trace of embarrassment appeared on Devynâs face.
She explained, âThe people here today are all my current business partners.
You donât know them, so I think you wonât feel comfortable with them.
Iâm actually planning to celebrate with you tomorrow.
â
Stella didnât think much.
She accepted Devynâs explanation.
She smiled and said, âThank you for being so considerate.
But actually, thereâs no need to bother.
We are all your friends, and we are all happy for you.
We can celebrate together.
â
An awkward smile crept across Devynâs beautiful face.
âSorry, I didnât realize that.
But since youâre here, why donât you and Mr.
Clark join us?â
Of course, Stella didnât refuse.
Instead, she sat down happily.
Devyn sat opposite Stella and asked everyone to enjoy themselves.
But her words and actions became unnatural.
Everyone also noticed the change in her attitude.
Suddenly, the atmosphere at the table became a little heavier.
Stella also felt something was wrong.
She occasionally glanced at Devyn.
But Devyn would only force a smile and immediately look away.
For some reason, she sensed Devyn looked guilty and scared.
Stella found it strange.
It seemed Devyn had become restless since she and Matthew arrived
.
But although she noticed Devynâs unusual behavior, she didnât say anything.
She continued to enjoy with everyone.
Until the party was over and Matthew took Stella back home, Stella was still in a daze.
She really couldnât figure out why Devyn behaved strangely during the party.
Matthew held her waist and led her into the room.
When he saw her preoccupied, he asked directly, âDo you think something is wrong with Devyn?â
Stella raised her head and looked at him in surprise.
âYou felt it, too? It seemed like she was hiding something from me.
Her expression was very unnatural when she saw me.
She didnât even dare to look at me.
â
Matthew frowned.
He remembered when Devyn stood out from the rest of the pack and made the cut.
He had some guesses, but there was no conclusive evidence.
Besides, he didnât want to upset Stella at the moment.
So, he pretended to be relaxed and pushed Stella upstairs.
âDonât think too much.
Maybe she only got nervous when she saw I was with you.
Itâs late.
Go take a shower first.
â
