Chapter 1637
When Love Comes Late
Fernando hesitated before handing over a document.
âThis is the visitor log for Devynâs mom, like you asked for.
â
Matthew finally looked up and took the document.
His brows furrowed as he scanned it.
When he spotted a familiar name, his confusion grew.
Slater?
Matthew stared at the name intently.
When did Slater get mixed up with Devyn? What role did he play in all this?
âGet in touch with Slater.
I need to see him tonight,â Matthew instructed.
Fernando nodded and dashed out.
Soon, he returned with news, reporting, âSlaterâs swamped lately, his assistant said.
â
Matthewâs brow creased.
It wasnât like Slater to dodge meetings.
With a sneer, Matthew told Fernando, âFigure out where Slater is right now.
â
Taking the cue, Fernando quickly tracked down Slaterâs current hangout and relayed the info to Matthew.
Matthew located Slater in a dimly lit room, nursing a drink.
When he heard the door creak open, Slater glanced up lazily, spotting Matthewâs entrance.
Surprise flickered in his eyes briefly before he composed himself.
âWhat an unexpected visit.
What brings you here, Mr.
Clark?â Slater greeted with a smirk.
Matthew cut straight to the chase.
There was no time for niceties.
âHas Devyn been reaching out to you lately? And did you know that she plagiarized Stellaâs work?â
Slater halted mid-pour, meeting Matthewâs gaze with a tense air.
Finally, Slater averted his eyes, setting the glass down with a crisp clink against the table.
âIâm not with Prosperity Group anymore.
No obligation to spill the beans.
Please, leave, Mr.
Clark.
Iâve got nothing to say,â Slater responded coolly.
Matthewâs eyes narrowed.
Slater was arrogant and never bothered lying.
His evasive attitude meant he was hiding something.
Before he could press further, Slaterâs phone buzzed.
Slater declined the call multiple times but Devyn persisted.
His expression shifted.
Walking to a corner and answering reluctantly, he listened as Devynâs panicked voice reached him.
