Chapter 2031
When Love Comes Late
While supporting Bennett, Stella glared at Elizabeth with anger burning in her eyes.
âNo, Elizabeth! This is all your fault.
You brought this upon yourself.
â
That was all she said.
She had no more time to waste on Elizabeth.
She was more concerned about Bennettâs injuries.
His clothes were corroded, and his back was gruesome.
The fabric was stuck to his flesh and blood, looking terrifying.
It obviously needed immediate medical attention.
When Bennett saw the worry on her face, he said comfortingly, âDonât worry about me.
Iâll be fine.
Just take care of yourself.
â
But Stella shook her head firmly.
âDonât pretend to be strong.
Youâre not okay.
â
Thankfully, they were at the entrance of the hospital.
Bennettâs injuries would soon be treated.
Matthew stepped forward and gently took Bennett from Stellaâs arms.
âLet me help you.
â
Stella nodded in agreement.
When the medical staff was informed about the situation at the entrance, they hurriedly pushed a gurney out.
Bennett was immediately sent to the emergency room, and the doctors started treating his wounds.
Outside, Stella stood in a daze.
She felt like her brain was buzzing.
Matthew walked to her and asked, âAre you okay?â
He checked on her and was relieved that she was physically unharmed.
She was just shaken up.
He couldnât help breathing a sigh of relief.
Matthew felt a little regretful.
If he had warned Stella about Elizabethâs escape, she could have been more alert.
He said, âIâm sorry.
â
Then, he pulled her into his arms.
âIâm sorry I scared you.
â
He couldnât imagine the consequences if that sulfuric acid was poured on Stella.
Stella shook her head and looked at him.
âDonât blame yourself.
Itâs not your fault.
No one wants this to happen.
But Mr.
Lowellâ¦â
When Stella thought of the gruesome scene just now, she shivered uncontrollably.
She couldnât imagine the agony Bennett felt after the sulfuric acid hit his skin.
And the scars it would leave were impossible to erase.
Elizabeth meant to disfigure her face.
However, Bennett took it for her without hesitation.
Stella was overwhelmed by guilt.
âIf I had known earlier, I wouldâve stayed away from him.
It wouldâve been better than letting him suffer like this because of me.
â
Matthew hugged her tighter.
His eyes darkened as he said solemnly, âDonât feel burdened.
I wonât forget Bennettâs sacrifice.
I will forever remember the favor he has done for you.
Iâll make sure to repay him.
â
