Chapter 99
The Forgotten Luna
Chapter 99 Hailey opened her mouth, but was at a loss for words.
It was true that Owen had come here because of her.
Hailey sighed helplessly and stood up, saying, âIâll go buy your ticket.â
Owen nodded slightly and remained in his seat, waiting patiently for her.
He hadnât slept all night, and coupled with his stomach pain, he looked extremely haggard. Yet even so, it couldnât hide his striking features. In fact, his pale complexion and weary state only added a sense of melancholic charm.
Hailey bought him a ticket, along with a bottle of water, some bread, and a sausage.
Owen had no appetite, so he could only eat plain food. The smallâtown supermarket didnât offer much else, and he could only make do with those.
Owen wasnât picky, and given his poor appetite, he couldnât eat much anyway. He barely managed a few bites before feeling exhausted.
Leaning his head against Haileyâs shoulder, he weakly murmured, âI havenât slept all night. Let me rest for a bit.â
Hailey had just lifted her hand, intending to push him away, but in the end, she let it drop.
After all, he was only there and suffered so much because of her.
The man rested against her shoulder, closed his eyes, and couldnât help but curl his lips slightly.
They stayed in that position for a long time. At 1:45 p.m., they finally boarded the bus.
From the bus, they traveled to the county, then took a highâspeed train to the city. After a journey of nearly twentyâfour hours, they finally arrived in Hallon City.
Hailey hadnât told anyone she was returning.
When she had bought an apartment for Christopher, she had also purchased one for herself, which was fully furnished and ready to move into.
She dropped Owen off at the Calhoun familyâs residence, watched him go inside, and then headed to her own apartment.
She planned to stay there for a couple of days to clear her thoughts before returning to the Dalton family.
Her apartment was in Riverside Estate in a slightly secluded area.
As soon as Hailey got out of the car and walked toward the building, she spotted a familiar figure.
The man was dressed in a black suit, wearing a mask and a hat, and moving suspiciously.
But Hailey recognized him at a glanceâit was Mateo.
âWhatâs he doing here?â she wondered.
She remembered that Mateoâs family background was quite ordinary. Otherwise, he wouldnât have been so desperate to climb the social ladder at all costs in her previous life.
Since Selena had gone abroad, Hailey figured his plan to use her as a stepping stone was no longer viable. That meant he had to find another way.
1/2 13:32 Thu, 3 Apr Chapter 99 Hailey narrowed her eyes and silently followed him...
Mateo didnât take the elevator. Instead, he used the stairwell and stopped on the fourth floor.
Hailey hid in a corner and watched as Matco walked up to Unit 401.
He removed his mask and hat, took a deep breath, and then knocked on the door.
829 Mateo had quite the looksâhandsome and refined, exuding the aura of a charismatic gentleman that young girls adored. His height and flawless skin only made him more appealing.
A young lady with a cute face but a chubby figure opened the door.
The moment she saw Mateo, she rushed over to hug him and even planted a kiss on his cheek. Her face was full of excitement and joy.
Mateo looked gentle and affectionate, but Hailey detected the disgust in his eyes.
From outside the door, she heard him saying in his sickeningly sweet voice, âHolly, Iâm here.â
The young girl named Holly Sovered She pulled him inside and shut the door behind them.
Haileyâs gaze turned cold. She thought, âSo this scumbag has found a new target. He really never misses a chance, does he?â
If Hailey hadnât run into this, she might have let it go. But now that she had, she decided that she had to do something about it.
Taking a deep breath, she went back to her own apartment.
The place was sparsely furnished, and there was nothing in it, not even a change of clothes.
Before taking a shower, Hailey called Lily and asked her to send some clothes over.
By the time she was done, Lily had already arrived.
Out of care and concern, Lily had sent over a carload of clothes, enough to fill Haileyâs wardrobe with outfits for every season.
After changing into fresh clothes, Hailey checked the fridge and decided to go out to buy some food and other essentials.
She figured she would be staying there often, so she might as well make the place feel more like home.
She wore black pencil pants and a black turtleneck sweater, layered with a cropped, fluffy, pale pink jacket for warmth. The whole look was finished off with a pair of trendy boots.
With her tall, slim frame and radiant complexion, she looked like a fashion model.
She tied her hair up into a sleek high ponytail, giving off a cool and sharp vibe. But with the pink jacket, there was also a hint of softness and sweetness mixed in.
She was in good spirits and even put on a bit of light makeup before heading downstairs.
Just as she stepped outside, she ran into Holly, Mateoâs chubby girlfriend.
The young lady seemed to be heading back, looking upset with her lips pressed together in a pout.
As Hailey walked toward her, Holly couldnât help but glance at her a few times, silently marveling at how stunning she was.
She glanced down at herself again, seeing nothing but excess fat.
2/3 13:32 Thu, 3 Apr Chapter 99 Holly felt even worse. She lowered her head and walked absentmindedly.
Just as they were about to pass each other, Hailey took out her phone, pretending to be distracted.
82%)
As expected, they bumped into each other. Haileyâs grip loosened, and her phone fell to the ground. The screen instantly went black.
50 Holly was stunned for a moment before hurriedly apologizing. âIâm so sorry. I wasnât looking.â She crouched down, staring at the cracked screen helplessly.
âItâs okay, I was at fault too.â Haileyâs tone was gentle as she shook her head. Then, she picked up her phone.
Holly said anxiously, âYour phone is broken. Why donât you tell me how much it costs, and Iâll pay for it?â
Hailey shook her head with a light chuckle. âNo need. I was planning to get a new one anyway. Itâs fine.â
Hollyâs family was wellâoff, so she could definitely afford it, but she still felt guilty. âNo, that wouldnât be fair. I was the one who broke it. Let me cover the cost of your new phone. Are you going to buy one now?â
Hailey hesitated for a moment before smiling. âYes, I am.â
Holly immediately offered, âThen Iâll go with you.â
Hailey couldnât help but sigh inwardly. This young girl is way too naive. No wonder sheâs falling for someone like Mateo.
Hailey went along with it and said, âAlright, Iâll trouble you then.â
Holly finally breathed a sigh of relief. âNot at all! Itâs the least I can do.â
âIâm Hailey Dalton,â Hailey introduced herself.
Holly also said, âIâm Holly Hart. Nice to meet you.â
