Chapter 131
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âA kiss?â
Just as I was about to open my mouth to say something. Siena let out a loud squeal as we both turned our heads to look at her. âSheâs getting jealous,â I spoke and stepped away from the uncomfortable situation. âShe woke up for nothing because she has nothing to be jealous about.â
Christian chuckled and grabbed her out of her seat. âAnd Iâll be back for my kiss.â Christian smiled while I pretended to gag âWhat, you donât want to?â Christian laughed. It wasnât that I didnât want to, but I couldnât.
âHow is Beau?â He asked. âGrateful, but confused became it came from you,â I told him. âHe wants me to thank you, but he also wants you to know that this wonât give you a pass because heâll still punch you.â
âFine.â Christian shrugged. âA punch is alright. Itâs Beau, so I expected him to kill me.â
âTrue.â I agreed. âBut the only person worthy of the Beau treatment is Matteo. Other than that, he has actually changed a lot.â
âI believe that.â Christian smiled. âLove can change people. Look at me, for example.â
I almost choked on my own spit at his bold comparison and looked him in the eyes. âI want to keep it a nice day today, so I will keep my mouth shut.â
âThatâs too bad,â Christian spoke. âAnyway, enough about us-our baby is suffocating!â I scolded him as I walked closer to remove Sienaâs jacket.
âIâm sorry, Siena.â Christian smiled and held his hand against her forehead. âSheâs even sweating. I feel guilty.â He laughed while Siena tried to get out of his grip.
âWhat?â Christian spoke offendedly. âDo you see that, Serena?â Christian asked. If his mission was to make me laugh at his cuteness, he had definitely succeeded.
âShe already has enough of us.â I pouted. âI donât want her to grow up.â Christian spoke. He said those words often, but she couldnât stay a baby forever.
âMaybe she wants to crawl?â Christian suggested and walked further as I almost ran behind him.
âSheâs barely five months old. What do you mean crawl?â I asked him, worried.
âSo?â Christian shrugged. âWhen I was her age-
âNot everyone is some miracle baby like you, Christian,â I spoke. Christian gave me an offended look and kissed Siena on her cheek. âYouâre underestimating her. Siena is a strong baby.â
Christian put her down on the carpet and made her sit up straight as I immediately joined the two.
âDonât do that!â
âDonât do that!â Christian mimicked me. He could be so childish at times-but thatâs what I liked about him. I remember thinking he was boring and serious until Vince told me that he was actually the complete opposite.
Compared to Christian, I was the boring and serious one, and not leaving the house made me realize it even more. I had absolutely done nothing these past few days. I didnât even go shopping.
âLook, I told you sheâs a strong baby,â Christian spoke and placed his hands a few inches from her back. At times I thought about the comments about Siena being a demon baby and how it actually mightâve been.
the truth. She was curious, progressed fast-and I was only scared of the future because I had no idea what she would be like.
Both Christian and I had many good traits but also a lot of bad traits. âI thought you didnât want her to grow.â I rolled my eyes.
âI donât.â Christian chuckled. âBut she should at least be able to move on her own. Sheâs getting a bit heavy.â
âOr youâre just weak.â I teased him, but Christian was not impressed by my joke. âWeak?â He frowned. âYes.â I laughed as Siena bounced up and down and joined me. âDo you see that?â
Christian asked.
The best thing about Christian was how he got amazed by every little thing and asked me the same question over and over while I was right beside him. Even Sienaâs vomit made him proud.
âThis is nice, isnât it?â I smiled at Christian. âJust the two of us with Siena, without any family drama.â
âIt is.â Christian agreed. âI really miss this, and I hope we can do this more often.â
Siena let out a loud squeal. âShe agrees.â Christian chuckled. âIsnât it time for her to eat something?
Our poor baby is literally eating her own finger, look?â Christian laughed at Siena. She loved the attention, and she was a little drama queen, just like her father.
âI just gave her a bottle. Why canât she just eat like a normal baby.â I complained and handed her a snack. âDo you see her teeth coming through? Itâll only be a matter of time before I have to drive the both of you to McDonaldâs!â Christian spoke.
âI donât want her to become like me. I want her to eat healthily.â I sighed. âIf itâs up to me, sheâll never eat a hamburger-
âThen Iâll let her eat one behind your back,â Christian spoke. âMy mom never let me eat that kind of crap, but whenever I was out with my dad, things were different.â Christian smiled.
âItâs actually quite surprising because he was a different person back then.â He spoke. âHe wasnât the warm. and loving dad he is now. He was cold and rough, but whenever he took us out to eat junk behind my momâs back, he was different.â
âIâm sorry for ranting about my dying dad.â Christian chuckled, embarrassed. I didnât mind hearing about. it. âDonât. I love to hear these kinds of stories.â I told him.
âI actually think we donât know each other at all, which is crazy because we have Siena.â
We knew a few things about each otherâs past, but only the main things. There was never a time where we sat down and had a full deep conversation with each other. âHow about I show you my childhood pictures. after Siena takes a nap?â Christian suggested.
âYes, I would actually like that.â I smiled. âI shouldâve brought mine. You wouldâve loved to see me in overalls and pigtails.â I laughed as I remembered how all the girls I used to live with had the exact same outfit and clothes, but we did it by choice.
âDeal,â Christian spoke. We played around with Siena for a while longer until it was time for her to take a nap, and just as promised, Christian came down and joined me on the couch with several photo albums in his hand.
âHere we go.â He smiled as he opened the first one. âThese things are full of dust. Donât you ever look at your own pictures?â I laughed as Christian gave me an embarrassed shrug. âWhy would I?â
âOh my god, look at you!â I cooed as I went through the pictures. âThis was the day I was born.
Enzo and Gio were so happy to meet me.â Christian chuckled and pointed at the picture of a tiny Enzo and Gio holding his hand.
âItâs funny to see Gio as a toddler. For some reason, he always gives me the feeling like he came out of the womb as an adult.â I laughed while Christian joined me. âI agree. Itâs funny.â
I looked through more pictures and pointed out Lucio, who hadnât changed a thing. âI want to tell you something, but donât laugh at me,â I told Christian and buried my head in my hands. âWhat is it?â Christian chuckled.
âPlease donât laugh at me.â I repeated as Christian nodded his head. âI wonât, just tell me.â
1 took a deep breath and prepared for a disaster as I wondered why I would even embarrass myself like this. âWhen I first met Lucio, I had a crush on him,â I confessed.
Christian remained silent and patiently waited for me to tell him that I was joking, but when he realized it was not a joke, he burst out laughing and held his stomach for support. âM-my, dad?â He cackled. âYou told me you wouldnât laugh!â I told him as I smacked his shoulder.
âIâm sorry, I expected something a little lessâ¦funny?â
We took a look at more pictures and even spotted Emmanuella. She was with the family for a very long time and in many of the pictures. âYour grandpa even scares me here.â I chuckled.
We reached a few pictures of Vince and Isobel, which made me laugh out loud. âI need to get the back. story on this one.â I pouted. âThatâs funny,â Christian smiled. âVince and Isobel were getting married, and (was the best man.â
âMy God, sheâs just out here getting with everyone, isnât she?â I gasped, from marrying Vince to sleeping. around with Christian to having a baby with my twin brother.
âAnd is this your uncle?â I pointed at the picture of a man and a woman. Christian took out the picture to read the names on the back and nodded his head. âYes, Johnny and Lucaâs dad.â
âThat was him with his ex-wife. She was his first wife, and I donât really know why I have this picture, but I have a lot of them.â Christian chuckled. âJohnny gave it to me. I think I took it because I miss him so much. I donât ever want to forget him.â
âAnd whoâs Donovan?â I wondered. âI suppose thatâs the baby in the corner?â
âWhat, baby?â Christian asked. I pointed my finger at the baby seat in the corner of the picture while. Christianâs eyes grew big. He flipped through the pages like a mad man while I was wondering whether I had made a mistake or not. âChristian, whatâs wrong?â I asked, worried.
Christian ignored me and flipped further until he reached a picture of a group of children. âAre these all of your cousins?â I asked. âMy uncleâs last birthday party.â Christian spoke in a hurry and flipped the picture to read the names.
âIf youâre looking for Donovan, itâs here.â I chuckled and pointed out the name. Christian flipped the picture back around and searched for someone on the image.
âFound him!â He spoke and pointed at the boy while my eyes grew big. It wouldnât have been a stretch to say that I recognized that face in an instant.
âTell me, who does he look like?â Christian asked as my mouth was wide open.
