Chapter 171
The Beta’s Regret
My heart raced as I watched him, I was curious. What kind of a man is Lord Shevek? My father.
I never knew what it meant, having a father and now I suddenly have one. My emotions swirled inside me, excitement, fear, anger, and hope. I knew I should be angry, demanding answers. But all I could do was stare at him, wondering what kind of father he would have been to me if he had known that I existed.
A Lot of things could have been different if he were here, I would have known earlier about my kind. He mightâve been able to teach me how to channel my Vampire side more, or even train me.
I wouldnât have been treated like a worthless Omega in the first place, I would have known a fatherâs love. But still, it isnât too late.
âMom.â I said as I softly moved my mother to the side, standing closer to Lord Shevek as I ignored my motherâs sound of protest.
I crossed my arms and lifted my chin. âWhat do you want?â
Lord Shevekâs eyes locked onto mine, his expression calm âPlease sit,â he said, sitting back down on the same couch he stood up from and leaned against it. He looked composed and noble, with a subtle smile on his lips.
I took the couch opposite him, repeating my question. âWhy are you here?â
âI came to see you.â He looked me straight in the eyes.
âWhy now? After all these years?â I frowned.
âI donât like this. I still think you need to leave.â my mother grumbled.
She was anxious, and I understood. In any other circumstances, I could have demanded he left just like she wanted, but not now.
And even though my mother was scared of losing me the way she lost Olivia, I wouldnât let Lord Shevek leave without getting the answers I needed.
Lord Shevek took a moment to think, before he finally answered âI never knew I had a daughter, not until a few days ago.â He sighed. âI got an anonymous letter, telling me about you, Eden.â
I gave my mother a sharp look. She knew where my father was all this while? âDid you write the letter?â Suspicion was etched on my face. â
She shook her head furiously âI didnât write any letter to him. I had no idea where Shevek had been. How could I write a letter to him if I donât know the address to send it to?â She said.
It made sense. But then who else would have written the letter?
âWho else knows about my father.â I asked.
Mom shook her head. âOnly Alpha Griffin, his wife, Eros and you, know about your him being a Vampire.â
Lord Shevek leaned forward, his gaze riveted on my mother. âI imagined you were the one who sent me the letter to make me come find you.â
âNo!â Mom snapped
Lord Shevek smirked and leaned back, his movements calculated âAt first, I feared it was some kind of trick, so I had my men go out to investigate. And when they did, they confirmed that it was the truth⦠Thatâs why Iâm here.â
My mother scoffed. âIf you really cared, why didnât you try to look for me after that night?â
I looked at her. She had a lost look in her eyes as she continued. âYou were my first.â
My heart squeezed at the pain in her voice. This was a pain that she had carried for years and hearing her confess it made me feel like I was intruding in a very vulnerable part of her life.
âRoseâ¦â Lord Shevek started.
âNo! Donât call my name. That night you acted as if you were in love with me, I fooled myself into thinking maybe I could work something out with -you.â She finished.
There was a small silence. The only sound was my motherâs sobs. âYou could have looked for me.â
âIâm sorryâ¦â Lord Shevek sighed. âI never imagined that you would get pregnant after the night we spent together. It shouldnât be possible. But somehow, you got pregnant.â His eyes flicked to me.
âWhen a Vampire sleeps with a Wolf, nothing comes out of it. The only time it happens is when the Original hybrids created by the moon goddess sleeps with another- they can conceive with wolf or Vampire because theyâre the moon goddessâ descendants.â

Then he smiled heartily âShe is a blessing.â
My momâs anger flared.
âDonât manipulate her!â She snapped. âI know what you are trying to do, to take her away from me.â
Lord Shevek frowned. âIf my intention was to come and take Eden away, I would have done that without your approval. I thought I already made that clear.â
It didnât look like my mom would back down, and so I had to pacify her. âMomâ¦â I called gently.
She looked at me with tears in her eyes. âI canât lose you too Eden. You mean everything to me.â
My heart broke. I moved closer and held her hand in mine. âIâm not going anywhere.â
My mom sniffed and looked back at Lord Shivek who watched us..
I saw the guilt in his eyes. Despite how rigid and cold he looked, there was a certain way he looked at us that made me understand that he cared alot more than he allowed himself to show.
âI would never try to make you cry.â He murmured, and my mother sniffed before glaring at him. âEasy for you to say, when I have spent the latter part of my life rethinking what we did⦠You left me alone with our child. Shevek, you have no idea how I suffered because of it. I had no one to support meâ¦â
âIf only I had known that you were pregnant, I wouldnât have left you.â Lord Shevek replied. âEden is a miracle.â
I looked at him, and smiled at the warmth in his gaze. I felt my heart race at the way he watched me like he couldnât believe I existed.
He truly made me feel like a miracle.
