Chapter 542
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
What was Spencer up to with his investigation into Nyla and his private meeting with Oliver? The thought of the Raynor Group trying to snatch the amusement park project made Damonâs expression harden.
Was Spencer betraying him? No, that didnât make sense.
Over the years, many had tried to pry Prospectus Technologyâs secrets from Spencer, but none had succeeded.
There was no way Spencer would betray him.
Besides, Spencer had been looking into Nyla before this. There had to be some other reason.
After a moment of contemplation, Damon called Luca.
âMr. Sumner, how may I assist?â Lucaâs voice was tense.
Damonâs lateânight calls usually meant something was wrong. It had happened enough times that Luca had grown anxious whenever Damon called him after hours.
âYouâre close with Spencer. Have you noticed anything off about him lately?â Damon asked.
Luca hesitated, recalling Spencerâs earlier inquiry about a photo. Should he tell Damon? He suspected that Nylaâs child might be Damonâs, given Spence seemed unlikely, considering how Damon and Nyla behaved around each other.
While he was still debating, Damonâs patience wore thin. âSpeak.â
Luca bit his lip, deciding to hold back his suspicions. âI havenât noticed anything strange about Spencer.â
âWhat did he say to you before you left for Saintornia?â Damon pressed.
âUh⦠nothing much. He just briefed me on some work stuff,â Luca answered.
âThere are cameras outside the CEOâs office. Are you sure you want me to pull the footage to get the truth?â Damonâs voice was icy, sending a shiver down Lucaâs spine.
Luca knew better than to cross Damon.
With a resigned sigh, Luca confessed, âSpencer asked me if a child in a photo was Ms. Kinseyâs.â
Damonâs eyes widened in surprise. âWhat does he want to know about Nylaâs child?â
Luca fell silent, unsure whether to share his hunch.
âLuca, youâve been with me for years. You should know my patience is limited,â Damon warned.
Taking a deep breath, Luca replied, âMr. Sumner, at the amusement park that day, I saw the childâs profile before he put on the mask⦠He looks almost exactly like you.â
Silence fell on the other end of the line, and Lucaâs heart raced. He wasnât afraid of Damonâs anger, but the sudden quiet was unsettlingâ
usually a bad sign.
After a tense few seconds, just as Luca was about to ask if everything was okay, the call abruptly ended. Listening to the busy signal, Luca didnât dare ca reasoning that if Damon couldnât reach him, he could claim his battery had died.
After hanging up, Damon immediately redialed the earller number. âGet a photo of Nylaâs child, and do it quickly.â
He set down his phone and walked over to the window The reflection in the glass showed his cold, inscrutable face.
The next morning, Nyla hurried to the lab after dropping Mason off at school. She was in such a rush that she didnât notice Mason emerge from the scho Mason flagged down a taxi and got in. Once inside, he gave the driver the address for the Prospectus ã Technology branch and pulled out his phone to navigate, cranking the volume up to the max.
