Trading My Ex for His Uncle
Oliver paused, his gaze falling on Nylaâs hand resting on his. Her skin was fair, her fingers delicate, resembling fine porcelain. It was hard for him to look away.
âNyla, thank you,â he said softly.
Nyla raised an eyebrow. âYouâre thanking me while telling me not to say thank you? Thatâs pretty polite of you.â
Oliver chuckled. âAlright, Iâll try to avoid saying it in the future, too.â
âThatâs more like it,â Nyla teased.
After they finished their meal, Oliver dropped Nyla off at the lab before heading back to the Raynor Group.
As soon as he walked into his office, he noticed Fred sitting on the couch.
âMr. Burridge, are you looking for me?â Oliver asked.
Fred glared at him, his voice laced with resentment. âOliver, even if youâve regained this position, you wonât be able to keep it for long!â
âYou donât need to worry about that, Mr. Burridge. Just focus on your own work,â Oliver replied calmly.
Fred snorted, stood up, and brushed past Oliver as he walked toward the door, deliberately bumping shoulders with him.
Oliver remained unfazed and took a seat at his desk, ready to start working.
A short while later, Liam knocked and entered. âMr. Raynor, here are the documents for the collaboration with the Keithstone Group. Please review them Oliver nodded. âOkay, just leave them on my desk. And could you look into any connections between Fred and my father? I want to know if theyâve had any dealings behind the scenes.â
âSure,â Liam replied.
Late that night, Damon entered the Sumner residence, his expression somber.
Richard, seated in the living room, showed no surprise at his arrival.
âBack already?â he asked.
Damon took a seat across from his father, his expression blank. âDad, since youâre here waiting for me, you must know why I came today.â
Richard nodded. âI know, but I donât intend to tell you.â
Damonâs face darkened significantly. âI just want to recover my memories. What gives you the right not to tell me?â
Richardâs demeanor remained indifferent. âIâm doing this for your own good. That woman is cunning. The fact that she secretly had your child shows her true nature. I donât want you to be entangled with her any longer.â
âYou even found out about my child with her. You really have your ears everywhere,â Damon said, his voice mocking and devoid of warmth.
Richard did not take offense at his tone and replied seriously, âAlthough I donât like that woman, the child is still a member of the Sumners.
âIâve already sent someone to bring the child back and raise him in Saintornia. As for that woman, Iâll give her a sum of money to sever her ties with the c As his words hung in the air, the living room plunged into a suffocating silence.
Damon scowled. âYou have no right to do this. This is between me and her. Iâll handle it myself. Itâs not up to you to interfere.â
Richard slammed his cup down, shattering it into pieces as coffee spilled everywhere.
âNot up to me to interfere? If I donât, youâll just get tangled up with that woman again. Sheâll ruin you!â he yelled, his aging face twisted with anger and the muscles a Damon remained unfazed, meeting Richardâs gaze directly. âYou say sheâll ruin me. Then tell me, how exactly will she do that?â
Richard sneered. âAs Clarkâs wife, your nieceâinâ
law, she seduced you and tarnished your reputation, making you a target for everyone. Isnât that ruining you?
âDo you know what people were saying about the Sumners five years ago? They said I raised a son who was involved with his nieceâinâlaw! An uncle who made his nephew a cuckold!â
