Chapter 162
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 162:
She slammed a black credit card onto the counter with force.
Kyla, trying to defuse the tension, suggested softly, âSadie, since Mrs. Wall likes it, perhaps you could let her have it?â
Isabel immediately approved of Kylaâs words, patting her hand. âKyla, youâre so sensible, unlike some who lack any sense of decency.â She shot a scornful look at Sadie.
Hearing their comments, Sadie scoffed. âWhy should I? I chose this bag first.â
The sales assistant, caught in the middle, attempted to clarify. âMaâam, this lady did choose the bag firstâ¦â
Isabelâs expression darkened. âIf I want something, it should be mine. If I say Iâm buying it, she should step aside.â
Undeterred, Sadie held Isabelâs glare. âIâve already decided to purchase this bag. Iâm not giving it up.â
She then handed her bank card to the sales assistant. âPlease, proceed with the transaction.â
The sales assistant, eager to avoid any further commotion, quickly took Sadieâs card to process the payment.
Isabel, seething with anger, trembled as she pointed at Sadie. âYou⦠youâ¦â As Sadie neared her victory, Kyla was determined not to let her win easily. Scanning the area quickly, Kyla hatched a plan.
âOw!â she exclaimed suddenly, stumbling toward Sadie.
Caught off guard, Sadie wobbled, nearly losing her grip on the bag.
In the nick of time, a strong arm encircled Sadieâs waist, steadying her.
âCareful!â
The deep, resonant voice was familiar in her ear.
Looking up, Sadie met Alexâs concerned eyes.
Meanwhile, Kyla, failing to regain her footing, fell to the floor with a pained moan.
âKyla!â Isabel rushed over, helping her up. âAre you okay?â
Kyla clutched her ankle, wincing. âMy ankle⦠I think I twisted itâ¦â
Isabel shot an angry look at Sadie, her worry for Kyla turning into scorn. âYou clumsy fool! Watch where youâre going! Youâve injured Kyla!â
Alex stepped in front of Sadie, his tone icy. âMrs. Wall, please mind your words. It was Miss Wade who lost her balance first.â
âYouâ¦â Isabel, overwhelmed with fury, struggled to find words. Sadie gently tugged at Alexâs sleeve, signaling him with a shake of her head.
She was tired of the endless disputes with these two women.
âLetâs leave,â she whispered softly.
Alex gave her a meaningful look but remained silent, escorting her as they turned to depart.
Kylaâs gaze followed them, a fleeting glint of malice in her eyes quickly giving way to an expression of feigned vulnerability.
âWho would have thought, after three years, Alex is still by Sadieâs side?â Kyla said pointedly, stressing âthree yearsâ as if to insinuate something deeper.
Isabel, already irate from Sadieâs resistance, felt her anger intensify at Kylaâs insinuation. She turned sharply, her tone accusatory. âKyla, what are you implying? Was Alex⦠already involved with her three years ago?â
Isabel struggled to grasp the notion that the seemingly unassuming Sadie had been connected with Alex even back then.
To Isabel, Sadie was merely a gold digger who had married Noah for his wealth, and now, she suspected infidelity. Kyla cast her eyes downward, her long lashes concealing the cunning thoughts brewing within. She nibbled on her lip, appearing as though she was wrestling with whether to divulge more.
