Chapter 450
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 450:
Noah felt a pang in his heart. He pointed to the last drawing and asked, âIs this you, your mom, and your dad?â
Averi nodded at first, then shook his head. âItâs my wish. I wish my mommy and daddy and I can always be together.â
Sadness clouded the boyâs cheerful expression.
Noah felt the weight of Averiâs words like a blow to the chest. He glanced over at Sadie, who was standing to the side with a tight expression. She immediately looked away, no doubt avoiding his gaze.
Noah turned his attention back to Averi. âYour wish will definitely come true,â he said with a smile.
âReally?â Averi exclaimed, his face lighting up again.
âOf course. As long as you behave and do well in school, your mommy and daddy will love you very much.â
Sadie tensed when she heard that. She couldnât resist calling out in a warning tone, âNoahââ
âAveri.â Noah smoothly cut her off. âCan I play building blocks with you?â
âOf course!â The little boy clapped his hands with glee and pulled Noah toward his castle.
Sadieâs emotions were in turmoil as she watched them interact. Part of her knew that Noah was simply putting on an act, yet she couldnât deny the other part of her that longed for moments like thisâthe part that wished time would stop so they could remain this way.
Noah took the opportunity to study the entire apartment. It was a two-bedroom unit with old furniture, a sofa with worn patches, and a desk in the corner piled high with design sketches and various professional books. Every corner of this apartment was a testament to the fact that Sadieâs life had been far from easy. The realization brought another pang to Noahâs heart. He couldnât even begin to imagine how she had managed these past few years, raising a child on her own while building her career.
âAveri, will you play by yourself for a bit? I need to talk to your mom.â Noah excused himself and walked over to Sadie, who stood by the window, watching the city lights outside, seemingly lost in her thoughts.
âWhat are you thinking about?â Noah asked softly, sidling up next to her. His voice jolted Sadie back to her senses.
âNothing,â she muttered, throwing a brief glance his way.
âAre you still mad at me?â Noah asked gently.
Sadie said nothing.
He knew then that she was still harboring a grudge over recent events. Noah sighed. âI know youâre still upset with me. But I had my reasons three years ago.â
âReasons?â Sadie scoffed. âSo youâre saying you were justified in teaming up with Kyla to deceive me and hurt my family?â
âThatâs not itâI never intended to hurt you or your family.â
âThen tell me, what really happened back then?â Sadieâs voice rose with her emotions. âWhat made you investigate the car accident? And why did you hide it from me?â
Noah hesitated, biting back the words that were already on the tip of his tongue.
âWell?â Sadie demanded sharply. âWhy arenât you saying anything? You donât actually have a reasonable explanation, right? You were just lying to me.â
âSadie, please trust me. Iâm not lying to you.â Noahâs eyes were filled with sincerity. âItâs just that⦠there are certain things I canât tell you right now.â
âIs that so?â Sadie asked sarcastically, almost laughing at his face. âJust what do you take me for, Noah? A child?â
âEnough! I donât want to hear any more of your lies. I already told youâitâs over between us. Stop showing up in my life from now on.â
