Chapter 514
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 514:
âClear!â Bang!
Sadieâs body jerked violently. The line on the monitor remained erratic.
âSecond charge. Ready! Clear!â Bang!
The medical team repeated the process once more.
Each time Sadie jerked, Noah felt a spark of hope, but then she would fall back onto the bed, limp and lifeless, and his heart would sink with hers.
Noah could feel his legs weakening beneath him. The tips of his fingers had gone cold and clammy.
He clasped Sadieâs hand and whispered over and over, âSadie, wake up⦠Please⦠Wake up⦠Sadie, I was wrong⦠I was so wrong⦠I shouldnât have treated you like that..I shouldnât have doubted you⦠Wake up, please. I swear, I will do anything you ask. Just open your eyes⦠Pleaseâ¦â
His words faltered toward the end, his tears streaming freely down his face.
It was the first time he allowed himself to be vulnerable in front of othersâin front of a woman, no less.
âThird charge. Ready!â The doctorâs voice rang out again, sounding more grave now. It was their last attempt. If Sadieâs heart didnât stabilize, they might lose her.
âClear!â Bang!
Noahâs heart seemed to stop in time with Sadieâs body. He felt time itself freeze.
One second, two seconds, three secondsâ¦
It felt like a lifetime, a century, an eternity.
BeepâBeepâBeepâ
The monitor showed a steady heartbeat, a normal line.
Your next journey starts at gⱯlnÏνð®âsâ¤ð¸oðº
âThe patient is stable!â a nurse cried out.
A collective sigh of relief swept through the medical team. The doctor leaned against the bed, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
Noah, however, was still in a daze. He stared at the monitor, unable to react.
âAre you all right, Mr. Wall?â the doctor asked, his concern evident.
But Noah didnât respond. He just tightened his grip on Sadieâs hand and pressed his thumb gently against the faint pulse on her wrist. Sadie wasnât completely out of danger yet, but she was alive.
That was enough. It had to be enoughâfor now.
As long as she was alive, there was still hope.
Noah stayed by Sadieâs bedside for the next three days. He didnât eat or drink, his attention never straying from the heart monitor. He didnât want to miss even the slightest change.
He sat motionless, like a statue. The only signs that he was alive were the steady rise and fall of his chest and the occasional flutter of his lashes as he battled his inner demons.
His eyes were sunken, and the stubble on his chin had grown, making him look haggard and desolate.
âMr. Wall, you havenât been back to the company for several days now,â Samuel said quietly from the doorway. âThe board isnât pleased.â
He had tried to persuade Noah multiple times to at least stop by Wall Group to handle urgent matters, but Noah remained steadfast in his refusal.
âHow are things at the company?â Noah croaked.
âEverything is more or less normal. Howeverâ¦â Samuel trailed off, obviously hesitant.
Noahâs brows furrowed in suspicion. âHowever?â
âThe board is extremely dissatisfied with your absence. Word is that they are conspiring behind your back to⦠well, to overthrow you.â Samuel finished, bracing himself for Noahâs fury.
