Chapter 588
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 588:
Sadie had no patience for Kylaâs games.
She glanced at her briefly, lips curling into a faint, taunting smile.
âOh?â was all she said.
Kyla mistook her silence for fear and leaned in. âHereâs some adviceâdonât get ahead of yourself. Noah doesnât care about you anymore. Got it?â
With that, she turned on her heel, purposefully brushing past Nanette as she walked away.
Nanetteâs footing faltered, but Sadie was quick to steady her.
âNanette, are you okay?â she asked, concern lacing her voice.
Nanette gave a shaky nod, though the tremor in her hands betrayed her.
Kyla halted mid-stride, turning back with a glacial glare. Her voice was razor-sharp, each word laced with venom.
âEnjoy this moment, Nanette. Soon enough, youâll understand what it means to cross me.â
Nanette stood frozen, her mind spiraling. The weight of Kylaâs threat coiled around her like a vice.
By the time she slid into the car, her strength gave out. She sank into the seat, her breath unsteady.
Kyla had never been one for empty threatsâhow far would she go this time?
No matter what, she had to keep Sadie out of this.
Sensing the tension radiating off her friend, Sadie spoke softly.
âIâve arranged for a general practitioner from abroad to see your mother. If everything went smoothly, he should be with your mother right now.â
Nanetteâs head snapped up, her eyes widening. âSadieâ¦â

Nanette barely got the name out before Sadie reached into her bag and pulled out a check.
âTwo hundred thousand. Use it to clear your debts,â Sadie said, her tone firm yet gentle. âIâm giving you tomorrow offâtake the time to set things right at home.â
Nanetteâs chest tightened. What had she done to deserve such generosity?
She quickly shook her head. âSadie, I canât take this.â
But Sadie wouldnât hear it. She pressed the check into Nanetteâs trembling hand.
âTake it,â she insisted. âAnd if itâs not enough, tell me.â
Nanetteâs composure crumbled. Hot tears spilled down her cheeks as she clutched the check, her voice thick with emotion. âThank you, Sadie. I swear, Iâll pay you backâno matter what it takes.â
Sadie exhaled, long and deep, but said nothing more.
Nanette had wronged her. That much was undeniable. But Sadie understoodâKyla had backed Nanette into a corner, using her motherâs life as leverage. And in the end, Nanette had chosen the right side.
Without her last-minute defiance, Sadie might have been the one disgraced, falsely accused of plagiarism, her career in ruins.
The car slowed to a stop in front of the hospital. Sadie instructed the driver to take Nanette home first, then come back for her.
âUnderstood, madam,â the driver responded with a respectful nod.
As the car pulled away, Sadie turned toward the hospital entrance. She moved with quiet determination, stopping only to ask a nurse for directions. The room wasnât hard to find.
