Chapter 1690
Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted
Hushed conversations filled the air. Some in the room understood what was happening, while others did not.
âAre you Jackson Kane?â The police officer pressed.
Jackson snapped back to reality. He suppressed his emotions and replied, âYes.â
âDo you know a Cody Hunter?â
âNo, I donât,â Jackson stated.
âNo?â The police officer scrutinized him, âCody Hunter was present at the club where you were drinking. Why was he at your gathering if you donât know him?â
Jackson frowned, âI attend gatherings organized by friends. I donât keep track of whoâs present. Who is Cody Hunter?â
âHeâs the brother of one of the kidnappers involved in Keeganâs disappearance,â
said the officer.
He then shifted the focus and added, âJackson Kane, we suspect youâre connected to Keeganâs kidnapping. Please come with us to assist in the investigation.â
These words unleashed a storm of emotions in everyone present.
Chandler had been reorganizing the companyâs structure since Keeganâs accident. Positions once held by Keeganâs associates were gradually reassigned. However, the research and development department resisted Chandlerâs control, supposedly protected by Keeganâs unseen influence.
The specifics remained undisclosed to the public, yet it was undeniable that Keeganâs protection would cease shortly after his death. Chandlerâs authority over Vinci Rivera was an inevitable outcome.
Being Chandlerâs only son, Jackson inherently became the apparent successor to Vinci Rivera.
Throughout this period, he gained widespread popularity within the circle, receiving favorable treatment from many.
With the news of Keeganâs death, alliances turned toward those offering benefits realistically.
However, no one foresaw his unexpected return during the memorial. Much less that the first thing he did was to point his finger at Jackson.
Whispers began to fill the room, âI knew the case wasnât that simple.â
âDidnât the kidnapper have a grudge against the young master of the Moore family and mistakenly identified Keegan as him?â
âThe kidnapper is dead. These motives are just speculations during later investigations. Who knows what the real reason for the kidnapping is?â
âIf Jackson knows the kidnapperâs brother, that meansâ¦â
Everyone had the same thoughts.
Cyrene rushed forward, standing between her son and the police, âOfficer, this must be a mistake. How does drinking at a club make him a suspect in Keeganâs case? Havenât the kidnappers been arrested already?â
âWeâll know Jacksonâs connection to the incident after the investigation. Please step aside and donât hinder our work,â one of the police officers responded as he took Jackson away.
Cyrene was desperate to protect her son. She pushed away the officer and said emotionally, âDonât touch my son! Iâm not letting you take him away until you give us an explanation!â
The police frowned, âMaâam, we need you to cooperate with us.â
In a state of shock, Jackson subconsciously turned to Chandler, who was notably composed, and moved forward to guide Cyrene back gently.
âThe police have emphasized the need for an investigation. A proper inquiry will prove Jacksonâs innocence. Trying to obstruct the police might give the appearance that weâre covering for him. Let him go. If heâs innocent, thereâs nothing to worry about,â said Chandler.
Though Cyrene favored his son, her loyalty was always to her husband. Despite her anger, she reluctantly complied with Chandlerâs order.
Chandler then looked at Jackson and said, âDonât forget to cooperate fully with the police investigation.â
With a pale face, Jackson nodded and turned away. As he left, his gaze lingered on Keegan, revealing a hint of hostility.
Keegan remained expressionless, coldly watching as the police took Jackson away. *
