Chapter 40
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 40:
At the wardâs entrance, Eric was conversing with Nyla on his phone. Upon learning that Hadley had visited the hospital to see Ernest alone, Nyla promptly reached out to Eric, urging him to ensure Hadleyâs safety.
âEric, please⦠Itâs quite isolated there, and itâs getting late. Hadley is aloneâ¦â
âIâm aware, Grandma.â
Eric exhaled deeply and massaged his forehead. âIâve already arrived.â Visiting his brother had been on his agenda for the evening as well.
âDonât worry. Sheâll be home safe under my watch, okay?â
âThank you.â
As Eric continued his conversation, he approached the wardâs door, pushing it open to witness the unfolding drama.
Linda was gesturing emphatically towards the exit. âLeave now! You have no place here!â
Hadley was just beside the bed when Eric saw her.
His face immediately hardened, his gaze sharp and intense. âHadley, what have you done to upset Linda?â
âEric!â
Tears welled up in Lindaâs eyes.
âIâve got this.â
He moved swiftly to Lindaâs side.
âMake her go away!â Linda grasped his arm, her voice desperate. âI canât stand having her here! Make her leave!â
Seeing Linda so upset, Eric wasted no time. âOf course!â
He turned to Hadley, anger evident in his expression. âDid you not hear her? Get out now!â
Hadley released a soft, sardonic chuckle. She set the razor aside, dried her hands, and began to make her exit.

âHold on!â
Eric, moved by Lindaâs distress, felt compelled to defend her. He picked up a bouquet of yellow calla lilies from a nearby table. âAre these from you?â
Hadley confirmed with a nod. âYes.â
âRemove them!â Eric dismissed her with a flick of his hand.
What? Was she now forbidden from even leaving flowers for Ernest?
âWhy are you still here?â
Noticing Hadleyâs reluctance, Eric took action himself, snatching the flowers and thrusting them into her arms.
His tone was harsh and piercing as he hissed, âDo you think Ernest would appreciate it? Had it not been for your actions, his child would be celebrating a third birthday now!â His gaze pierced hers, freezing her in place.
âHow can you show your face here?â
Linda suddenly turned away, her shoulders trembling as though she might cry. âEric, please, thatâs enough! I canât take this!â
Startled by Lindaâs distress, Eric redirected his frustration towards Hadley. âArenât you leaving yet?â
