A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 114
A Life Debt Repaid
Noel was sobbing at Simonâs sigh. âHow did it go, Daddy? Does she still want to press charges?â
âOf course she does!â Simon snapped, seething just then. âWerenât you saying that youâre going to woo John Levine? Itâs already ages, and heâs still with Cordy!â
Noel appeared even more upset at that, and her eyes were welling with tears. âI wanted to do it to help our family, but Cordy is latching on to him so tightly, I canât even get closeâ¦â
âOh, Simon, you shouldnât blame her,â Sue chimed in, ever quick to her daughterâs rescue. âYou canât rush a relationship, and did you know that Noel almost passed out from crying? We should think about how we can convince Cordy to drop the charges or itâll be a scandal for the family if the case was made against Plum and she gets sentenced to jail. Everyone will be laughing at us!â Simon naturally took that into consideration and a vein bulged over his temples in his fury.
âItâs all my fault. Grandma wouldnât have slapped Cordy if not for her.â Noel started to play the victim again. âI should apologize to her⦠Iâm willing to get down on my knees and beg if she demands it, as long as Grandma doesnât get hurtâ¦.â
âItâs not your fault!â Sue exclaimed. âItâs your sisterâsâshe doesnât care about the familyâs reputation at all, and insists on humiliating you. Even Sachs Enterprises was affected, and itâs only natural your grandma couldnât bear it and went looking for Cordy.â
âMoreover,â she added, âKyle Jessop is so petty, trying to scandalize Cordy because heâs jealous of Starstream Groupâs successâonly for Cordy to turn the tables on him! And here I thought he was a fine young man after he brought Jessop Corp back from the brink of successâ¦. But he proved lacking so much lately, Jessop Corp would end up destroyed by his hands.â
Though it seemed like a fair assessment from Sue, she was naturally just shifting the blame away from Noel while pinning it on Cordy and Kyle.
To no surprise, Simon listened to her and growled viciously, âCordy really treats us as if weâre not family, never thinking for our sake at all! Iâd have had a word with her myself if my mom didnât!â
Sue was smiling vilelyâeven if Simon had been cheating on her for years, he always listened to her.
âAnyway, youâre right. Kyle isnât an ideal partner we thought him to be, Noel,â Simon said, as if remembering that just then, and he became a little agitated.
âYeah,â Noel replied tamely.
âDonât bother at all with Kyle nowâfocus on winning over John Levine,â Simon growled between his teeth. âThe Levines are the kings of the city and our family will rise to new heights if he falls in love with you! Most importantly, Cordy wonât ever get to strut again!â
âYes.â Noel nodded. âIâll do my best, Daddy. But Iâm still worried about Grandmaâ¦â
âCodyâs not going to drop the charges even if you beg,â Simon said with certainty. âSheâd just humiliate you.â
âThen what should we do?â Noelâs eyes were tearful and red, and she looked as if she blamed herself.
Simon huffed. âShe just has to own up to it and apologize.â
âWould she really do it?â Noel asked.
âShe must do it,â Simon growled through his teeth. âOr sheâs going to jail!â
Back at Cordyâs ward at the hospital, John returned her phone.
âThank you,â Cordy quietly said after taking it.
He watched her, before walking up to her bed and picking up the patient file next to it.
âDeafness in the right ear?â he asked.
âTemporarily,â Cordy replied.
John raised a brow. âFor how long?â
âIf itâs like before, a month.â
âLike beforeâ?â John seemed to be an expert at catching keywords.
âSame thing happened when I was a child,â Cordy said flatly. âIt lasted just a month.â John clenched his fingers and his hand shook even as he held the patient file.
