A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 394
A Life Debt Repaid
Jay said, âJohnny would never hurt you.â
âWell, heâs really testing the limits of my patience!â Cordy snapped, and shut the door violently in his face.
Jay pursed his lips; he could see Cordyâs rage.
He wasnât sure if John would ever earn Cordyâs forgiveness from this.
Behind the door, Cordyâs heart was ablaze even as she repeatedly told herself to calm down and think of a way to leave.
She wasnât about to let anyone do whatever they wanted to her, let alone someone like John!
Her eyes narrowing, she called Patrick.
âWhat time are you arriving? Iâll be there to receive you,â he said, as forthright as ever.
âI canât make it. Thereâs people stopping me.â
Patrick paused for a moment, but soon asked, âJohn Levine?â
âYeah.â
âAnd you need my help.â
âThatâs right.â
âIâll be right there,â Patrick said without hesitation.
âOkay.â
Cordy hung up, pinning all her hopes on Patrick.
When Cordy opened her door in the afternoon, Jay was still standing outside along with the bodyguards, keeping a respectful distance.
âCome in,â she told Jay.
He simply stared at her, so she said, âFor lunch.â
âOkay.â Jay did not reject her, and entered her house.
âI can only make pasta, and nothing else. Is that okay with you?â Cordy asked.
âThank you.â
Cordy made two bowlsâ worth, and they both sat on the same table, observing proper manners as they ate.
âYou left the Levines?â Cordy asked nonchalantly.
âYeah.â
âYou shouldnât have. Itâs certainly not happening now.â
âItâs all water under the bridge,â Jay said flatly.
He appeared so pessimistic, as if life didnât matter even if it went badly; it only made him appear more tragic than dying.
âZoeâs doing well right now. She learnt how to cook,â Cordy said. âShe even invited me and Quinn over to her place whenever weâre free to try her cooking.â
âYeah,â Jay replied.
âThings are going well between her and Bob, too,â Cordy added.
âI wonât bother them,â Jay promised.
âIâm just saying that if she can let go, you can too.â
Jay looked up at Cordy as she finished, âDonât drive yourself into desperation.
âDonât you hate me?â Jay exclaimed in surprise. âFor keeping you here.â
âNo,â Cordy replied determinedly. âI only hate John.â
âHe-â âHe had no choice,â Cordy said, cutting him short. âIâve heard that over a million times.â
Jay smiled faintly, since he couldnât say anything about that.
