Chapter 696
A Life Debt Repaid
Patrick grinned. âI could tell. But what if itâs actually a yes, too?â âNo, it isnât,â Cordy growled.
âI mean, who knows? You actually hated me when I touched you before, but youâre touching me willingly now, arenât you?â
Cordy was left utterly speechless. Was she not making sense before?
âI mean, whatever your reason was, you touched me on your own accord,â Patrick added very flirtatiously, before studying her for a moment. âThat said, you rarely gave another person so much attention. You really hate Nana, donât you?â
âNope.â
âDonât bother trying to trick me.â
âNanaâs really your ideal type, huh? You men are all the same.â
âYouâre my ideal type,â Patrick said solemnly.
âSave the flattery,â Cordy snorted, completely skeptical.
âI mean, Nana is the type who⦠Actually, I canât really describe her, but either way, sheâs not my type.â
Patrick certainly didnât know how to comment on Nana. He didnât feel that positive about her at first sight, but wasnât exactly repulsed either.
Overall speaking, she just did not leave a strong impression.
âWell, you were pretty sweet on her,â Cordy pointed out.
âAre you jealous?â
Cordy rolled her eyes at him.
âThatâs because sheâs your cousin. I wouldnât bother talking to her if she were someone else,â Patrick said as if it was only natural.
Cordy smiled. Having Patrick around was nice at times.
As a friend, that is.
âSo? Why do you hate Nana so much?â Patrick pressed.
âI donât hate her.â
âThen it must be the man, whatâs his name⦠Lucas Lynch, was it?â
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â Cordy snorted, suddenly too tired.
âThat doesnât sound like a no. Donât tell me⦠You fell for him because he resembles John Levine?!â
Patrick asked, suddenly a little hysterical.
Dicky, who had been staring outside the window throughout the journey, finally turned to look at them.
However, he was used to Patrick trying to woo his mommy, since the latter had been doing that for a while now-he was just reacting to his daddyâs name.
âNo!â Cordy was at a loss for words. âIâm not like that.â
âAnd yet, you were acting strange,â Patrick pointed out.
âFine. I was annoyed with Nana, okay?â Cordy admitted.
Dicky was a little let down.
He turned to stare outside the window.
He was already disappointed in his daddy, but that man was still his daddy Whatever.
If his mommy gave up on him, he would too.
Meanwhile, Patrick was still rambling on.âYouâre just using Nana as an excuse for your feelings for Lucas.â
Cordy thought then that there was no way she could talk to Patrick, since they were on completely different wavelengths, i Patrick noticed Cordyâs mood, however, and surrendered. âSo? Why do you hate her?â
âDonât you think she resembles Noel?â Cordy said bluntly.
Patrick actually did a double take. âThatâs why I felt that sense of familiarity ⦠She really does, now that you mentioned it.â
So that was why Cordy didnât have a good impression of Nana.
Whether her meekness was pretended or genuine, once a person decided that they disliked something before, they wouldnât be able to bring themselves to like it, even if they tried to like it again.
âSo? Why are you here in North City?â Cordy asked, changing the subject.
She certainly didnât think that he would travel all the way here for her.
âI really came to see you. Why canât you believe me? You know itâs been a while. I was so worried youâd forget about me.â
âDonât worry, I wonât,â Cordy said assuredly.
âReally?â
âThereâs a lot of money involved in our relationship. And Iâm a gold-digger.â For once, Patrick was left speechless.
