Chapter 899
A Life Debt Repaid
The next day, when Sean arrived at Cordyâs room alone, she asked, â Whereâs Patrick?â
He hadnât shown up after he left her room last night, which was definitely not his style.
Even if Patrick knew that John was alive, he had no reason to avoid her.
âHeâs asleep.â
âIs he sick?â
âNo, just drunk.â
As Cordy stared at Sean, he shrugged. âI saw that he was taking it very hard, and I bought him a drink.
After that, heâs out like a light even until now, so I didnât wake him. I can get him if you want him for something.â
âNo, itâs fine,â Cordy said quickly, since she was just asking.
However, she was still staring fixedly at Sean.
He simply returned her gaze and asked, âWhat?â
âYou care a lot about him,â she said, knowing that Sean wasnât one who meddled in the affairs of others.
âI mean, heâs family now,â Sean smiled faintly.
Cordy, however, thought that might not be the case. Not to mention, Sean had clear dark circles under his eyes; he clearly didnât sleep well last night.
Maybe he couldnât sleep with Patrick staying in his room?
âAnyway, back to business.â Sean immediately changed the subject.
âTell me.â
âI found a body double for Grandfather,â Sean said.
Cordy was left a little surprised, and he added, âIâve screened through plenty of candidates, but thereâs no doppelgangers like I hoped. The one I picked only resembles him in stature and presence, but thereâs hardly any resemblance in the face. Anyone could tell that heâs not our grandfather from up close.â
âSo?â
âTil move grandfather somewhere secure today, while the body double will pretend as if he just woke up. Iâll arrange the specifics-you just have to know that,â Sean said.
Cordy didnât ask further questions.
What Sean wanted was for her to play along, and she just had to do it.
âSo? What are your plans for John?â Sean asked in the end.
He didnât ask yesterday because he needed time to let that bombshell sink in, though now, he would like to know her plans.
âIâll fight.â Cordy didnât hide it from Sean, since he would find out anyway.
âHave you considered what youâd be facing if you do?â
âIt doesnât matter.â Cordy remained determined.
âThen do what you will.â
âYouâre not going to tell me to stop?â
âWould that deter you?â Sean asked in return.
âNo.â
âThen thereâs no reason to make either of us upset. Actually, Iâd hate it more if you started to hate me,â
Sean said bluntly.
Cordy loved Sean, and she would be lying if she said that she wasnât emotional about his affection for her.
He had always stood by her unconditionally across the years.
âThank you.â
âItâs fineâ¦â
âSean,â Cordy suddenly said.
Sean stiffened and stared at her in turn.
That was the first time he heard such affection in her voice.
