Chapter 900
A Life Debt Repaid
Sean understands that Cordy was emotionally distant towards everyone in the family, and therefore treated everyone with indifference.
That applied to him as well, even though he was always around her.
âAre you recognizing me as family now?â he asked calmly after a while.
âI always did.â
âAnd youâre only showing it now?â
âI just didnât want you to get ahead of yourself,â Cordy retorted.
Sean smiledâmushy words were unnecessary for them, or it would make things more awkward instead.
âJust focus on getting better for now,â he told her. âHealth is vital for everything, whether itâs to deal with John or family troubles.â
âThe same goes for you.â Cordy nodded, when something occurred to her.â Right. If Patrick does wake up, tell him to come over. I need to clear the air with himâ¦â
âIâm here,â Patrick suddenly spoke from the doorway.
As both Cordy and Sean turned towards him, he shrugged. âI didnât expect that Iâd actually sleep in.
And I wasnât eavesdropping either, until the last part.â
âItâs fine even if you did. Itâs nothing hush-hush,â novel.xo Cordy said nonchalantly.
âIâm going to make the arrangements for our plans now,â Sean said, clearing the room for them. âCare to join me, Dicky? Youâve been stuck here for days.â
âOkay!â Dicky was sharp enough to read the room too.
Soon, it was just Cordy and Patrick left in her ward.
Sighing, Cordy said, âYou know what Iâd choose.â
âSo Iâm sentenced to death?â Patrick said, but there was a lightness in his tone.
He refused to let her see his misery, no.velxo because he would never make things awkward for her.
âYou shouldnât waste your time on me,â Cordy said bluntly.
âIt never was a waste, and this doesnât feel like a death sentence,â Patrick said with a determined tone.
While Cordy frowned, he asked gleefully, âSo? Johnâs giving you the cold shoulder, isnât he?â
Cordy rolled her eyes-he had to hit her exactly where it hurts.
âHeâs marrying Nana soon. Are you really that confident you could take Nana away from him? Nanaâs no pushover, you know. Moreover, if he really marries her, are you still going to save yourself for him?
Donât you think itâs unnecessary? Forget the years you wasted while heâs deadâhe had someone else for years, and youâd be the naive one if you keep pinning your hopes on him.â
Though Patrickâs words were sharp and cut her, novelxo Cordy was actually left speechless.
âLook, I get it,â Patrick continued solemnly. âJohnâs survival isnât all that for me. I mean, if he was really dead, youâd never get over him forever. But the reality here is that while heâs alive, heâs dumping you.
And youâre still obsessing over him after that? Anyway, youâre going to accept me once you get over him, right?â
âWhy are you so sure I can get John back?â
âBecause youâre not as despicable as Nana Lynd,â Patrick said, hitting the nail on the head and leaving Cordy speechless again.
Suddenly, he said, âSo, how about we make a deal?â
âWhat deal?â
âIf you really can make John give up on Nana and be with you. Iâll leave without a word right away. But if he ultimately chooses her, novelxo youâll start dating me, and Iâll help you tend to your wounds.â
âThatâs unfair to you,â Cordy refused.
âThatâs up to me to decide,â Patrick said staunchly. âI will always desire you, Cordy Sachs-even if John doesnât.â
âPatrick-â
âDonât say no,â Patrick said, cutting her short and pleading, âOkay?â
He was the child of a very important family, and anything else he wanted was always within reach.
There were countless women who loved him, but he had to keep making himself single because of her.
âOkay,â Cordy agreed to it nonetheless.
There was no other reason; Patrick was such a good man, she couldnât reject him.
Moreover, why would she hold on if John really gave up on her?
