Chapter 910
A Life Debt Repaid
Nonetheless, Sean quickly changed the subject. âWhat happened between you and John? Why did Patrick come to blows with him?â
The mention of John made Cordyâs gaze turn dull immediately.
It was much more difficult to get John back as she thought.
She thought that if she was willing to stand alongside John and face everything with him, John would willingly do so.
In the end, she overestimated herselfâ¦or perhaps she underestimated Nana.
âJohn was determined to reject me.â Cordy did not hide that from Sean.
âSo, Patrick fought him.â
âYesâ¦â
âWhatâs in your mind?â
Cordy looked Sean in the eye and said, âIâm not giving up just yet.â
Sean frowned, clearly upset by her response.
Cordy understood that Sean didnât want her to suffer because of John, and yetâ¦
âI think thereâs something he canât tell us about,â Cordy said, voicing her suspicions.
She wasnât thinking much since she was hurting from Johnâs rejection earlier, but now that she had calmed down, she noticed too many inconsistencies.
Johnâs reaction to her presence changed too quickly-to be precise, when he returned to his ward.
When John arrived outside his own ward, he didnât appear particularly distant towards her, but was suddenly very much so when he stepped inside.
âWhat exactly canât he tell us? He loves you, but he has to take responsibility for Nanaâthatâs all,â
Sean scoffed derisively. âThat man is so indecisive, so different from the John I met. To be honest, the first time he came to meet me to build an alliance, he worked quickly and decisively. He was very different from the John weâre seeing nowâ¦â
âThatâs exactly why Iâm suspecting if heâs hiding something from me,â Cordy said, determined.
âCordy, people change-and in Johnâs case, he lost his memories. Donât hold out too much hope for him,â Sean reasoned. âAlso, Iâm convinced itâs better for you to give up on John. Patrick is really a good man.â
Sean truly didnât want Cordy to get involved with Lynds. The Cranstons may be the most powerful family, but the Lyndsâ influence in the capital wasnât to be underestimated. Most importantly, Jesse Crantson was still unconscious. The only reason Jesse could strut was because he was the eldest amongst both families.
Still, even he didnât have the ability to keep Cordy unscathed.
âPatrickâs a good man. You can have him,â Cordy blurted.
Sean stared at her, speechless.
Cordy simply smiled. âI just suddenly thought you two are a better match. Iâm joking, of course-Patrickâs preferences are a mystery, but yours arenât. Even if your marriage was political, you wouldnât be bewitched by a man.â
âIâm just recommending him, and you have my support even if you reject him,â Sean said. âJust prepare yourself mentally. Like I said, Nanaâs no pushover, and the Lynds even more so.â
Even so, Cordy remained determined. âI used to hate getting into trouble and wanted to keep myself isolated, just to live my life in peace. Thatâs why I rejected John so many times-because his life is too complicated, and Iâd get involved with the Stuarts. But now, Iâm willing to go through hell and high water to get him back.â
âSeems like youâve made up your mind, so I wonât say anything else. Just remember that Iâm always on your side, no matter how things turn out.â
Cordy sighed emotionally despite Seanâs promise. âI used to hate the Cranstons. I donât know what happened between the family and my mother, only that she suffered a lot because of my father after she left the family. Thatâs why Iâm distant even if the family treats me well now. But I think Iâve changed my mind now because of you.â
Sean chuckled. âWell, Iâm honored.â
âNo, the honor is all mine,â Cordy corrected him. âI used to be skeptical towards familial relationships, even holding no expectations for it. You allowed me to cherish my family again.â
âItâs great that youâve sincerely accepted us,â Sean said, giving her a tender pat on the head. âJust donât hurt yourself over anything.â
âYeah.â Cordy nodded.
âAnd like I said before, stay healthy. Thatâs most important.â
âYou too,â Cordy said, and glanced at his nose. âItâs hilarious.â
Sean rubbed his own nose when she said that, the emotions on his face inscrutable.
