Chapter 953
A Life Debt Repaid
She was so near, yet he did not dare to reach out to her.
He thought that Cordy was leaving, that she would leave upon being rejected by him.
She had always been a proud woman, and he would rather she stay that way.
She would leave without hesitation at his rejection.
He did not want to see her groveling and doing herself injustice, being so aggrieved for his sakeâ¦
Cordy picked up her bag on the table and fished out a folded piece of paper.
She struggled to walk back to John.
She flattened out the piece of paper and handed it to him.â This is the result of the DNA test between you and Richard.â
Yes.
She did not want to show him that or tie John to herself this way, but she succumbed to it eventually.
Rather than seeing him leave, she would rather lose her dignity.
She never thought that she would go to such an extent for a man she loved.
After experiencing what she did with Kyle, she thought that she would never fall in love againâ¦
But John was worth it.
Yet, John refused to take the test result from her.
She looked at him, trying to see through his emotions. He was having mixed feelings, struggling within himself but with a tinge of cold heartlessness.
Cordyâs eyes were red with unshed tears.
At that moment, she felt like she was making things difficult for John.
She looked down at her feet.
Tears streamed down her cheeks and fell on the sandy beach.
âDonât you want to see it?â Cordy asked.
She held back the overwhelming sorrow in her chest as she spoke.
âThereâs no need for that,â John said coldly.
Cordy smirked.
She could not bring herself to even fake a smile.
She looked up, her face streaked with tears.
Johnâs eyes had turned red too.
Very red.
Yet, he remained unyielding.
She said, âJohn Levine, even though youâve lost your memories, even though you really donât remember your feelings for me, even though you rejected me in your current state of ignoranceâ¦â
John subconsciously clenched his fists.
âThis time, I really will turn and leave,â Cordy said emphatically and clearly.
After this time, she would give up completely.
Once she gave up on someone, she would do it completely and thoroughly.
She would not leave any hope for herself or the other party as well.
âAre you sure you still want to leave?â Cordy asked John.
John fell silent.
The silence between them was deafening, but Cordy did not rush him for an answer.
She was willing to wait.
She was willing to wait for his answer.
Suddenly, Johnâs phone rang and broke the silence.
She knew who it was without even askingâit was no one else other than Nana.
Cordy saw John pull his phone out and stare dazedly at the screen.
He answered it eventually.
Cordy smiled, and a lone tear fell from the corner of her eye.
She knew that this meant that things were over between her and John.
The moment John answered Nanaâs call, he had made his decision.
To be accurate, the moment John refused to accept that DNA test result, she had his answer.
She simply refused to give up.
She was simply lying to herself.
Cordy walked past John.
She walked very slowly because of her leg condition.
Or was it because she could not bear to leave him?
She was still clinging onto hope even in such a hopeless situation.
