Chapter 954
A Life Debt Repaid
But eventually, John did not stop her.
They simply brushed past each other just like that.
Cordy returned to the hotel villa, while John left the beach.
âHave you given up yet?â
Cordy buried her face between her knees on the soft couch in the hotel villa.
Seanâs voice was a mix of concern and helplessness.
Cordy did not lift her head up and simply nodded.
âThen letâs go back.â Sean did not ask her any questions, and he neither mock her nor showed her any concern.
He just took it that this episode was over, and he did not want to embarrass her.
âGive me a moment.â Cordyâs voice was nasal from all the crying.
âSure.â
Sean sat next to her as he waited.
He would be lying if he said that his heart did not ache for Cordy, seeing her like this. He would also be lying if he said that he did not feel like punching John.
But he was a rational man.
He clearly knew what was best for Cordy, and whatever he said at this point would only make Cordy feel worse.
The only thing he could do was to keep her company and make sure she did not self-harm, even though he was sure that Cordy would not do that.
But as her kin, he could not just leave her alone.
What was more, Cordy has thought of him at her saddest moment.
That was enough to motivate him to stop Cordy from doing anything foolish.
After a long while, Cordy wiped her tears dry and looked up at Sean.
Her eyes and nose were both red.
It was rare for Cordy to express her sorrow so overtly.
âLetâs go,â Cordy said.
She spoke those two words as if she had really let things go.
Sean did not know if Cordy really let things go or if she was simply hiding her vulnerabilities. Whatever it was, it was for the best that she was willing to end the relationship.
In his opinion, Patrick was the better man for Cordy.
Sean stood up, carried Cordy in his arms, and put her gently in her wheelchair.
By the time she pushed her out, it was already deep in the night.
Seanâs helicopter was parked on the field next to the hotel.
As Sean carried Cordy up into the helicopter, he said, âNana has publicly announced her wedding with John. It will be held in two daysâtime.â
âHmm,â Cordy responded emotionlessly.
âYou need not have regrets since youâve given it your all.â Sean comforted her and simply left it at that.
Cordy looked out of the window into the night sky, remaining silent the whole time.
She never feared having any regrets.
It was just that she loved him very, very much.
But yetâ¦
They had to pass each other by.
By the time they arrived at the courtyard of Cranston House, it was already three in the morning.
The moment she alighted from the helicopter, she saw Patrick standing under the moonlight.
What could she say?
Her heart was not made of stone, and she could not help but feel touched.
She turned to look at Sean.
Sean shrugged. âYes, I was the one who informed Patrick. But it was his own decision to wait here for you.â
Patrick walked toward them.
Cordy took a deep breath and asked him, âIs this worth it, Patrick?â
âYes, it is,â Patrick replied without any hesitation.
âDo you not mind that my heart will continue belonging to another man?â
âThat would only go to show that Iâm not good enough and donât have the ability to make you fall in love with me,â Patrick said with a tinge of helplessness.
Cordy felt tears welling up in her eyes.
She did not know if she should give herself another chance.
Should she give Patrick a chance?
The only thing she knew was that she was in deep, deep pain.
The pain of losing John was overwhelming.
She suddenly really needed warmth from another.
She said, âLetâs try it out, then.â
