Ewald had taken his time before joining the others in the reception hall, for he
had been questioning his loyal butler and reviewing footage from his time in
a coma. Now, he knew who exactly wanted him dead and who had fought to
save him. His mind was clear.
âFather, let me explain, Iââ
âThereâs no need to explain,â Ewald interrupted coldly. âYouâre to leave
immediately. From today onward, Denis will be the patriarch of the Toma
family. All my assets and shares will be transferred to him for management.â
The finality of Ewaldâs words hit Cezar like a hammer. He stood there, eyes
filled with rage, but knew that any further protest would only make things
worse. Glaring at Emmanuel, he gritted his teeth and stormed out, followed
by his family and loyalists.
Ewald never imagined that half of the Toma family would walk out in
defiance. If he hadnât come back from the brink of death, Cezar would have

to Teddy Tanner and the Quill family.
âSonia, Iâll be working with Mr. Fletcher to help Mr. Lowe find his sister as quickly
as possible. In the meantime, please take care of our guests.â
Denis was not only a man of his word but also keen on securing the Toma
familyâs alliance with the Quillen family by offering his daughterâs hand to
Shane.
âWill do, Dad,â Sonia replied, though her feelings were conflicted.
It wasnât that Sonia wanted to back out of the arrangement, but Shane just
wasnât her type. She had always been drawn to men with charisma and
commanding presence. Shaneâs senior, Emmanuel, was the perfect example
of thatâno wonder Rhea had spoken so highly of him. Now that she had met
him in person, Sonia couldnât deny that he was every bit the hero Rhea had
described.
Despite Eldoria slipping into the depths of fall and winter, Shane felt as

though spring had come early for him.
While Emmanuel was busy coordinating the search for his sister with the
Fletcher and Toma families and holding discussions with Mackenzie about
their joint plans, he had no time to supervise Shane. But since Shane was
Emmanuelâs junior, Denis couldnât afford to neglect him, assigning Sonia to
keep him company.
Rhea, on the other hand, didnât want to play third wheel and preferred
spending time around Emmanuel, so she left them alone.
After spending the day together, Shaneâs confidence began to grow. By the
next morning, he decided to take a bold step forward.
âMiss Toma,â Shane stammered, gathering his courage. âCould we, umâ¦
maybe, uh, go out for a walk or something?â
As soon as he asked, he immediately covered his face with both hands, feeling embarrassed. This was his first time asking a girl out, and the memory of his failed attempts with Beatrix still haunted him, making him even more

âUm⦠okay,â Sonia replied. Though she didnât particularly like Shane, she didnât
find him completely unbearable either. Since her father had already
promised her hand to Shane, she was prepared to accept her fate.
âWait, what? You actually agreed to go on a⦠a date with me?!â Shaneâs face
lit up like a blossoming flower. He had just referred to it as a date, pushing his
luck a little further.
Sonia lowered her head, giving a soft nod. She wasnât as flustered as Shane,
but there was still an awkwardness in the air. She had dated before, back in
her school days. While things never went too far, she had experienced
holding hands, kissing, and casual dates. This was nothing new to her.
âThatâs awesome! Iâll, uh, call us a cab!â Shane said, excited but a bit clueless,
realizing he didnât have a car in Eldoria.
âNo need for that,â Sonia replied. âYou can drive my car. If youâre not
comfortable driving, I can have the driver take us.â

âNo, no! I can totally drive! Iâm a great driver. Youâll see!â Shane puffed out his
chest with pride.
Sonia blushed a little at his enthusiasm.
Shane suddenly realized the potential misunderstanding and quickly
smacked his forehead. âMiss Toma, I mean driving a car, not⦠that other kind
of driving. Iâve never driven in that way, I swear!â
Sonia stared at him, her face now bright red.
Shane continued to dig himself deeper, fumbling with his words. âNo, no, wait!
I mean, I can drive, but not like⦠uh, not like that! Iâm really good at driving
cars, just not⦠oh man, what am I even saying?â
Sonia finally let out a chuckle
