Maxwell Zelinsky sighed deeply, a look of sadness and helplessness on his
face. âI have no real feelings for her, and Iâm not happy. You are the one Iâve
always held close to my heart, my one true love.â
âGet lost!â Ashton snapped, her fury clear.
âAlright, Iâll go.â Maxwell raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, offering a
bitter smile. âBut I really wish we could go hunting one last time, just like we
used to. Remember? It was our favorite game. All our laughter and sweet
memories were left there.â
âYouâre not leaving, huh? Fine, I will!â Ashton didnât want to engage with him
any longer. She turned sharply and made her way toward the venue.
Though she had no desire to speak with him, the memories from years ago
began flooding back into her mindâunbidden flashes of joy, sorrow,
heartbreak, and anger, all swirling inside her. Her eyes welled up with tears..
No matter how much she tried to ignore it, Maxwell had been her first real

boyfriend. Even though he abandoned her for a marriage alliance, she had

Maxwell watched Ashton walk away, a small smirk playing on his lips. The gap
in their age and experience gave him the confidence to know exactly what
Ashton was feeling, even without seeing her expression. He could already
sense the emotional turmoil brewing inside her.
âOtto!â
âYes, Mr. Zelinsky!â At Maxwellâs call, a small but sharpâlooking man appeared
at his side.
âBook a hunting session for this afternoon.â
âHow many participants, sir?â
âThree.â Maxwellâs eyes followed Ashtonâs fading silhouette, confident and
composed as ever.
âYes, Mr. Zelinsky,â Otto responded swiftly before vanishing as quickly as he

had appeared. His speed was unmatched, for quicker than even Blake
Dotson,
Inside Capitol Hall, Ashton found a seat like any other ordinary spectator.
However, unlike the others who were eagerly awaiting the speeches and
debates between the presidential candidates, her mind was preoccupied
with finding Emmanuel. But she knew he was working behind the scenes,
protecting Ethan Hale. Even though she was certain he was there, she
couldnât spot him anywhere.
A wave of disappointment washed over her as Maxwellâs words replayed in
her mind. That heartless man was rightâEmmanuel belonged to Mackenzie,
not to her. He never had and never would. She longed to see him, but she
didnât even have a valid reason to approach him.
At 25, Ashton was past the stage of youthful infatuation, but only two men
had ever truly entered her heartâand both were married. She wanted to
move on, to start a new relationship, but there wasnât a third option in sight.
Suddenly, she felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness. No parents, no

friends, no job, and no lover. She was adrift, without a clear sense of direction
in her life. While everyone around her at the venue seemed filled with
excitement, Ashton sat quietly in the back, feeling distinctly out of place.
Nathan had come to Capitol Hall with one purpose: to find his master,
Emmanuel. It had been days since Emmanuel arrived in Zovince, and yet he
hadnât visited the Chapman Estate or even reached out, which irked Nathan.
The Chapman family was the wealthiest in the country and held significant
influence in national elections. Emmanuel, supporting Ethan, should have
come to the Chapman Estate, and Nathan felt slighted.
As Nathan searched for Emmanuel in the hall, he caught sight of a familiar
face sitting toward the back. Assigned by his father to attend the speeches
and debates, Nathan hadnât brought a date. However, as the notorious
playboy with the most girlfriends in the country, Nathan couldnât be seen
without a woman by his side. So, he decided to improvise.
âHey, Ms. Summerton!â Nathan suddenly appeared next to Ashton, pulling out
a thick stack of cash and handing it to the audience member seated beside
her, effectively buying the seat.

âOuch!â Nathan sat down, frowning as he responded, âYouâre not that strong
either! But Iâve been training under Emmanuel, and I might be stronger than
you now.â
âAre you? Want to test that? I could use someone to take my frustrations out
on,â Ashton replied coldly.
âBut I donât have a habit of hitting women,â Nathan lied, knowing he likely still
couldnât beat Ashton in a fight. He was well aware of her temper and
definitely didnât want to be her punching bag.
âCoward!â Ashton saw right through his lie. After all, it was a known secret that
Nathan loved to engage in playful scuffles with his girlfriends. His claim of not
hitting women was laughable.
âMs. Summerton, Iâve got a better idea, something more fun, and thatâll really
test your skills,â Nathan said with sudden enthusiasm. âHow about we go
hunting at the Hunterâs Den? Competing with a woman like you could be

Nathan had played all sorts of games with women, but competing in realâlife
combat with a strong, skilled womanâespecially one as beautiful and
wellâbuilt as Ashtonâwas something he hadnât experienced before. Even
though Emmanuel hadnât given him much guidance lately, the training he
received back in Yeringham had helped him develop some internal strength.
Over the past few months, he had also enlisted a personal coach to further
his skills. Nathan was eager to see how far heâd come in actual combat.
âYouâre into that kind of game too?â Ashton was taken aback for a moment
before sneering. âI didnât expect that from someone as fragile as you.â
âAre you afraid to accept my challenge? Nathan shot back, clearly offended
by the insinuation that he was weak. He felt like this was the same disrespect
he got from women like Yuna Tanner. One day, he would make sure they all
saw how strong he really was.
âFine, letâs go. But if you lose, youâll have to call me Master!â Ashton responded
without hesitation.

âMaster?â Nathan paused before laughing. âHaha, I bet youâre only saying that
because you wish you could be my masterâs wife, and since that didnât work
out, youâll settle for being my master instead, huh?â
âYou⦠youâre talking nonsense! I donât even like men like Emmanuel. Whatâs so
great about him anyway? He doesnât understand women at all!â Ashton
snapped, her voice rising with frustration, drawing the attention of nearby
audience members.
Her face flushed with embarrassment as she quickly lowered her voice. âItâs
settled then. If you donât show up, Iâll think even less of you.â
With that, Ashton stood up and left. She no longer cared about the
presidential candidatesâ speeches or debates. She wasnât like Emmanuel,
who burdened himself with matters of national pride and the greater good
while neglecting those around him. Hmph!
Nathan watched her leave, his eyes tracing her figure and noting her unique
presence. A slow smile crept across his face. âInteresting⦠I wonder what itâll
be like to have such a pretty apprentice Hahaâ¦â

Meanwhile, Emmanuel, operating under the alias of Mr. Wolf, remained
entirely focused on his covert mission, ensuring Ethanâs safety. As it was a
secret operation, he couldnât appear in public unless absolutely necessary,
which made it impossible for Ashton to find him.
The speeches and debates wrapped up by noon, and everything remained
peaceful, with no incidents taking place. However, the debate between Ethan
Hale and Mason Morgan had been a battle of words with no less intensity
than an actual fight.
Emmanuel had to admit that Mason was indeed a strong competitor for
Ethan. As the head of the Agriculture Department, Mason greatly benefited
Chanaea, ensuring both economic growth and the welfare of the people.
Based on the most recent official polls, Mason was currently leading the race, with a noticeable gap between him, Ethan, and Catherine. Unless something
drastic happened in the coming month, Mason had a high chance of
becoming the next president.
