Emmanuel narrowed his eyes. He knew Levi to be a calculating man, not one to speak so bluntly without a hidden agenda. For him to say such a thing aloud–it had to be deliberate.

Is he trying to provoke me?

Xylie’s gaze also shifted to Emmanuel, her eyes full of worry.

Her expression spoke volumes. Emmanuel could tell exactly what she was thinking: she was pleading with him not to act on impulse like he had in the past.
