Chapter 23

Love The Game

Since today was Monday we had team dinner. It was going to be at Kristinas house, but before me and Sara got there we stopped at my house. We were only there a couple of minutes, because my brother was having his team dinner at our house. We had just enough time for a little bit of a make out session. We didn't talk much but I felt like we didn't need to talk. The air didn't feel heavy like it had before. It was easy and calm. So we drove.

As I drove I had my left hand on the steering wheel and the other on my gear shift. Sara was in the passenger seat with her phone in her right hand and the other resting on the center console. For some reason I cant really explain I grabbed her hand in mine and held it. I didn't look anywhere except for the road, but I could feel her looking at me. As I was driving I realized I was going to have to sit through this dinner with Kris. It was going to be hell. I told her I loved her but to stay the fuck away from me. Who does that? I just kept driving and holding on to Saras hand.

As we pulled up to Kristinas house I parked behind one of the other girls cars and took a breath. The house was a two story house that didn't look too flashy but you could still tell it was expensive because of the neighborhood it was in. Kristina lives in the nice part of town near the high school where all the rich people live. I took another breath because I saw Kris pulling in behind me. Sara just looked at me and said

"You ready?" I just nodded my head.

Dinner consisted of five large pizzas, crazy bread and five liters of soda. The whole team was there. Besides the starters we had Ava, Heather, Lea and Dana. They never really played but they were still on the team. The only time they really played was when we were ahead by twenty points or more.

We all sat around Kristina's squared kitchen table; I was next to Sara and Dana while Kris sat across from me next to Kara and Kristina. The conversation was about any and anything. First was about how everyone hated me for today practice which I agreed was terrible.

"Ave I love you but if you ever make us do that many horses again I'll kill you." Kristina said as we all laughed.

"Hey I paid for it!" I said pointing at my still busted lip. Everyone just burst out laughing. Except for Kris. She just ate her pizza.

"Well if she hadn't started shit she wouldn't have gotten her ass kicked and made us run." Kris said, her voice filled with acid.

"What the hell did you just say." It came out of my mouth before I had time to think about it.

"You heard me." She said taking another bite of her pizza. The rest of the team stayed quiet. I felt Saras hand grab mine under the table. I wanted to chew kris out. I wanted to tell her off. But now wasn't the time or the place. Instead I said,

"I'm not doing this with you."

"Fine by me." She said. Not looking up at me once. My ears were burning with anger. I just held onto Saras hand and tried to calm down. Sara leaned in to my ear and whispered.

"Lets get the fuck out of here." That was all I need to hear. I stood up and said

"Well its been great guys I got to go see you guys tomorrow." I grabbed Saras hand and walked out the door and didn't look back once. I loved kris, but after everything we've been through, I don't know if I still love her that way.

When we got in the car Sara turned the music up to 11 and I looked for a back road. I peeled out of Kristina's drive way. I was so mad.

"Who the fuck does she think she is. She chose that fucking bitch over her team, over her family, over her best friend!" I was screaming at this point.

"She's fucking stupid Ave."

"God and she knows exactly why that fight started. I should have hit her harder for what she did to you. And I did not get my fucking ass kicked. I kicked her ass. They pulled me off of her, not the other way around." I was still screaming. I had found a back road that leads towards Saras house. It was dark and empty and I was going 95.

"Keep going." Was all Sara said. And so did. I screamed and cursed and bitched and moaned. When I was finally done I slowed down to the speed limit which was 45.

"You good now?" Sara asked calmly.

"I guess." I said.

"Good because if you drive any faster the cars gonna breakdown." She said. I just kind of chuckled.

"It just makes me mad you know. Especially because she can't see how bad the situation is. And she stays in it and suffers. She's not even allowed to see me or text me or even talk to me. Although I guess it doesn't matter now because she hates me. I didn't want any of this." I said trying to run my right hand through my hair before realizing that it was still in a pony tail.

"I know she's your best friend but sometimes people fall in love and they cant see whats right or wrong."

"I guess." I had taken the back road all the way to Saras street and was coming up to her house.

"You know I'm right." She said a little more playfully. I couldn't help but smile just a little. I pulled into the drive way and parked the car.

"You know I'd kick anyones ass if they hurt you right?" It came out soft and almost apologetic. I was looking down at my bracelet but when I looked up Sara was just staring at me.

"What?" I questioned.

"Nothing."

"No tell me what you're thinking." I smiled. Instead of saying anything she put her hand on my cheek and leaned in to me. Her lips were soft and smooth. She still tasted like pizza and soda. Our lips moved together in sync. When she licked my bottom lip I opened my mouth just a bit and I felt her tongue dance with mine. I put my left hand between her legs on her thigh. Her hands moved from my cheek down to my waist. Despite how hot this was it was really difficult because the center console was in the middle of us.

"Wanna come inside?" Sara asked in between the kisses. I pulled back and looked at the dash board time. It said 7:15, which meant I had time. Lucas' team dinner would still be going on and probably wouldn't end until 8:30 maybe 9.

"I'd love too." I said giving her a wink.
