The Alpha & Beta’s Regret – Chapter 148
The Alpha & Beta's Regret
Addison POV
It was nearly 8pm when Silla walked back down the hallway, alone, Addi noted. No escort by Victor himself, she stood up and walked over to the bars, âSilla?â
She saw those eyes turn on her, but she said nothing at all, stopped walking as well, stared at her. âMy name is Addi.â
No real response, Silla just stood there and stared at her.
âYou must miss your own kind,â Addi told her softly, were the wrong words she realised as Silla walked away instantly and continued passed the cell to the stairs up to her tank.
âMy daughter is a Siren.â She stated as she watched Silla pull that shirt she was wearing off. Saw her stop now, turn those bright blue eyes of hers on Addi once more, had her undivided attention now, it seemed. âHer name is Luci.â She told her.
Saw actual sadness in the creature and then she returned to stripping off, âSheâs lonely too. Has no other Siren to be with.â Watched her slip into the water. âIâd love to introduce you.â she called out and sighed as the girl shifted to her Siren and was gone beneath the water.
Though her Siren appeared up at the glass wall of that tank and looked right at her, at least they had heard her words. Addi looked right at her and sighed softly. Waved her hand over the lock of the cell door. It was a simple key lock and she only had to feel for the mechanism and use her magic to turn it. Addi walked over to the tank and put her hand on the glass, smiled gently at the creature.
She saw it look at her hand on the glass and then just leave and swim away. She was going to have to risk it all and she knew it. She walked up the stairs to the top, needed this creature to help everyone down here; to get out from under Victor, literally.
âAddison, I wouldnât.â Zoe called out to her.
âI need to.â She stated simply and she had to, it had not escaped her attention that Silla had come back not only wearing Victorsâ shirt but she smelled like the man himself.
Heâd been up there having s*x with Silla or letting her mate him in order to take her mind off of Addison throwing books at her and trying to gain Sillaâs Sirenâs attention, to try and bond with it. He was not so stupid that he couldnât figure out what she was doing
Who knew what he told Silla, the reason why she wasnât to harm Addison herself, but shed heard the threat to drain Sillaâs tank. So she knew he had some hold over the creature. Addison stood up there and looked at the water. It was freshwater, she noted. Put a hand on the surface and tapped it a few times, just like Victor had.
She knew Silla and her Siren would know if the surface of the water was disturbed, would feel the vibrations in the water. Got nothing, removed her hand and directed that call she knew how to make into the water. It would be much clearer to her beast, sound more like a proper call as it vibrated within the water itself.
Stood there and waited, saw movement and then those black eyes appeared before her, just a few meters away.
Addi smiled at her just a little. âIâm not a Siren, but my Mate was.â She told the creature âI mean you no harm, regardless of what Victor tells you about me. Iâm no threat to youâ¦
â saw her swim a bit closer.
âI lost my mate, he was
killed a long time ago.â She allowed the actual sadness of his death to touch her voice, knew Sillaâs Siren would hear it and see it. Understand it even.
âLonely.â It voiced at her.
âA tank is no place for you. You need to be in a lake, my daughterâs lake is large, sheâs lonely like you are.â
Saw it tilt its head a little as it contemplated her words â
Last one.â
Addi frowned âWhat do you mean, last one?â
âI, last one.â
Addison stared at her now, more than a little wide-eyed as she realised this was why she was here, what Victor had told her about herself. âNo, you are not. There are others.
Many othersâ¦â she sighed heavily and held out both her hands to the Siren. No wonder she was so sad, she believed she was the very last of her kind. What a horrible thing for Victor to make her think and feel.
âMy child, he lies to you.â
Saw the frown on the Sirenâs face, knew she didnât want to believe her, had been here since a tiny child, itâs all she knew âDid he tell you why Iâm here?â Addison was willing to bet that answer was no. Got nothing from her, so went on â He wants my Siren daughter for his Mate. Tried to kidnap her already, and force her to be here. Will treat her like all those down here locked up⦠Your own kind, he will hurt her, like he hurts all of them. She also belongs to another, two others in fact. Victor tried to take her from them. He is still planning to do so.â
âNo.â It snarled at her.
âYes, he has me here, so sheâll come, will use me to get to my Siren daughter. I am what he needs to get her out in the open. He cares not for her or what she wants, he is a cruel, mean man. You must know this, have seen him, heard it with your own ears.â
She got hissed at by the Siren, it was getting agitated and she knew it, but she had to get through to her, to Silla as well as the beast. âWhere are his children? Do their mothers get to see them? Do these women want his attention?â she sighed âPlease, I need your help. Another Siren, needs your help. He has lied to you all this time, you are not the last one, you could see for yourself, likely will, when she comes here.â Addison turned away âYou might want to think about that.â She stated and then walked away down the stairs and back into her cell, closed the door and reengaged the lock.
Saw Zoe looking right at her âOnly here until you want out.â
Addison nodded âYes, recon of this pack is needed, so.â She shrugged âand sewing doubt in that Siren, is a must.
You heard Victor state heâd build Luci a lake, yes.â
âYes, why?â
âTIl need you to tell her that when shes curious enough to come and ask more questions. It probably wonât take too long.â She could already see that Siren looking at her through the glass. She knew the sound Addi had produced.
It wouldnât have been perfect to her, but she would have understood it was for a Siren alone, and she would have inherited knowledge as well. That it could be taught to a human mate.
It probably also understood Victor was a cruel man, that he just wasnât cruel to her was all. Couldnât be she would kill him at will, was an adult and fully realised. How old? She didnât actually know but knew Silla and her beast were deadly.
Saw Silla appear at her cell a little while later and looked at her. âVic Vic lied to me?â
âYes Silla.â She nodded. âHe also wants my Siren daughter for his Luna. She does not want that, is using me to get her here, why youâre not allowed to harm me.â
âHe needs you to give me a lake.â
She heard Zoe snort softly âSilla, that lake is for his Luna. I heard him tell Addison that myself. When she told him that Luci would never live in a tank.â
Saw Silla frown, was thinking about Victor building a lake for another Siren but not her, when she was here and probably wanted one.
âHe said hed build her a lake when she gives him an heir, a child.â Addi told her.
Watched as Silla raised an eyebrow now, oh yes, she had inherited knowledge of how Sirens bread. âItâs never going to happen Silla, there will never be a lake. My Luci already has two children to the ones she does love.â
âSiren pups?â she asked instantly, had her attention nOW.
âYes, two children. Twin boys,â Addi told her, smiled right at her now. âThey would love you Silla, love other sirens to play with. Sirens donât go to war. Sirens love other Sirens always. Only fight and go to war, to protect their own kind.
They donât take what is not theirs either. Your beast, she knows this, knows how they get a Mate.â
Saw her nod her head and just stand there, looking at her for a long time, saw her eyes move to Zoe and then point at her âSheâs Vic Vicâs Mate.â
Addison blinked a little surprised that she would know that
âYes, and he keeps her locked up down here, makes her watch you and him, lets her hear when heâs with the others.
Itâs not right Silla.â
âCruel,â Zoe sighed, âbecause that is what he is. Silla, Iâve been here for how long? You know when I was brought here.â
Watched as Silla stared at Zoe, she didnât really say anything but it was likely true, shed probably already been in this tank when Zoe had been brought here 7 years ago.
Sirens were born as Sirens in the water.
Moved her eyes back to Addison âI can meet your daughter?â
âYes, Luci is her name.â
âWhen?â
âI guess that depends on many things.â
âLike?â
âAre you going to help him, keep him safe when you know heâs cruel? He may have looked after you, Silla, raised you, but he has also lied to you your entire life, now hasnât he?â
There was silence from Silla now as she and her beast likely contemplated how they had been raised, lived and now heard that there were others, had been lied to.
âI donât want anything from you Silla, other than when I leave and take all these women with me, you donât tell him about it.â
Saw her look down the hall âTake all of them?â
âAll of them, set them free, Silla. He hurts them, keeps them locked up. They donât like it, they want to be free. Will you help by not telling him?â
âDrain my tank.â She muttered.
âThereâs a whole lake at my daughterâs pack. Itâs very large, from what Iâve read, 43 miles long and reaches to depths as deep as a 1000 feet in places. Lots of different fish live there, humans too. Wolves as well. Lots of things for you to explore and play with. You could come with me.â Addison commented almost casually âI could take you there, tonight if youâll help me, to get them all outâ¦come with me, live as you should.â
âNot safe for me, people hunt Sirens.â
âNo one out there would even know what you are Silla, not unless you told them. You look no different to a human.
Put on a dress and youâd just look human on land.â
âHe said, itâs not safe for me outside the pack.â She murmured
Addison nodded âTo keep you here, under his control, Silla.
He doesnât want you coming across other Sirens. Would likely lose you to them. He knows you would prefer to be with your own kind.â
âLonely,â Silla sighed.
âYes, I imagine you are here all by yourself.â She reached out and Silla allowed Addison to touch her face. âMy girl, will you help me? Help all of them?â
âSilla, how did Victor get you?â it was Zoe. Her voice was soft and she was right there next to Addison. She had known Silla since she was a tiny baby, she supposed.
Could well have some sort of bond, being across from each other.
âSaved me.â
âFrom what?â Addison asked gently.
She saw as Sillaâs eyes moved down the hall âFrom a cage, was small, beaten and scared.â
Addi sighed, he was her rescuer, itâs why she trusted him. â You, Silla, were just like them. Like Zoe is now. Victor is no different to those who took you and hurt you; to these women down here.â
She watched as Silla turned and looked at Zoe and then back down the hall. âYou could save them all, like he did you.â Addi stated, though she did know a Siren would mostly be concerned about itself and not others. Itâs why she didnât care they were all down here for Victorâs amusement. Silla and her beast protected only themselves.
None of these women were her kin, so there was no bond between them.
Thought about that as Silla stood quietly contemplating the issue at hand. It was Addison that spoke first â Daughter.â She stated âI will be your mother, love and cherish you, take you as my own. I would love another Siren daughter, to be able to give you a full Siren sister. A proper Siren family.â
It wasnât Silla looking at her now, but the black eyes of her beast. âI couldnât produce that call unless a Siren taught it to me, have Siren venom in my veins.â Addi told her and nicked her own skin, to allow her Siren to scent that venom of Lucians in her b***d. âSmell for yourself. Proof that I do not lie to you.â put her arm out through the bars for her Siren to smell her.
Got bit right on the arm and felt that Siren taste her b***d, before letting go, then it just stared at her for a solid minute before stating, âMother, I am Riva.â
Addi smiled right at her, giving her a Siren family was all it took to bring the girl to her side. âMy beautiful daughter.â She stated lovingly.
