The Alpha & Beta’s Regret – Chapter 163
The Alpha & Beta's Regret
Rafe POV
It was nice to have Alpha Conner and Eliza here, though his office was currently being monopolised by Alpha Austin and Alpha Sloan. While interviewing the women from the Bloodless Moon, details about their lives there and how they were treated, he supposed. Perhaps on Victor himself.
He knew Addison would have to make a statement about her k********g and the reason behind it as well. She would make certain that the Wolfen Council understood that Luci was not then or now Victorâs Mate. Regardless of whatever he claimed
Victor also would not know that they had claimed Luci and she them, so if he tried to play that card, hed be in for a rude shock. Likely why the council was here inside this pack and not out at Victorâs pack. Alpha Austin was getting the details to see and likely out Victorâs lies.
He, Jack and Conner had made use of their Alpha Bar to sit and work on the alliance Conner had drawn up. Which he had done a good job on. He not only had clauses for both sidesâ allied assistance, but had also included the gypsyâs and their need to stay connected with their Luna and their princess. Mating balls and he was also offering up an advertising contract, for their businessâs to use through the newly registered advertising agency that was now up and running, why his Beta was not here, currently opening his new business.
There was a clause about both packs staying inside their allied packsâ lands when close by and needed rest. That was good, both he and Jack liked that, it was always nice to have somewhere safe for pack members to stay when travelling. He and Jack added a clause about internships within each otherâs pack businesses, if they had wolves interested in those areas.
Everyone it seemed, was getting a good deal out of this alliance. He was glad that they had met young Conner all those years ago, as terrible as the circumstances had been.
Hannah had been right. He was going to be a good ally to have.
He asked why Conner had risked bringing El and their daughter here while they were still under the threat of war.
Conner had stated Sloan had told them now was a good time to do so, wanted all of them here, something about she knew Victor wouldnât attack them while there were two kitsune and the Wolfen Council here.
That his own pack also had the Wolfen Council within it, so it was also safe from Victor for the moment. Shed never steered him astray and he knew without a doubt she would never put El or Jewel in danger, so he trusted her judgement, and so had El.
Though hed personally thought Sloan just didnât want to leave El and Jewel right that minute, so had made up an excuse to bring them with her when Austin requested her to come with him here to their pack. Had chuckled and shaken his head
Heâd seen not long after their meeting concluded that Luci looked to be a little agitated, she didnât seem all that comfortable or maybe happy with the way the boys hovered about Jewel, talking to Eliza openly about her little girl.
Heâd touched her face gently to draw her attention to him, liked that he could do that and not have her shy away or recoil back from him. Loved touching her, like he had once used to be able to.
Though when he had asked Luci what the matter was shed stated âIâs not me, Alari is agitated about something.â
So he had addressed her Siren directly for the first time as his Mate âAlari honey, whatâs the matter?â heâd asked her gently. Heâd watched as her bright green eyes had turned black as Alari had moved forward and heâd known she was looking right up at him. Seemed to just stare up at him for a good minute thinking about whatever it was, he never took his eyes off of her. Then she just huffed a little and shook her head âno.
âIfI can help in anyway?â he offered.
âNot a wolf problem.â Shed told him a moment later, though shed not moved away from him when he slid his arms around her, and hugged her to him, ran a hand through her hair, she actually leaned into his chest, which had made him smile. It was his first real active contact with Alari other than Mating. It was good to know she could lean on him.
âDo you want to go for a swim?â heâd asked, wondering if that was it, or if being in the lake would help her right that minute
He had a feeling with all that hed heard, Victor needed time to pick himself up, likely had to pull his allies to him. If hed done that yesterday, they would arrive today and be planning down there to come this way. Wouldnât get here until tomorrow afternoon, he imagined. So she should be safe to swim out there.
He also knew that Silla hadnât gone swimming in the lake yet either, something about needing the Siren of the Lakes permission, though heâd heard that Silla had swam in the creek already.
âLater.â Had been her reply after a minute of just leaning on him, then sheâd receded away leaving Luci on the surface, shed smiled up at him and his heart rate had increased dramatically at the sight of it. Heâd always loved her smile, lit up her whole face, would never tire of it and he knew it.
âAlari liked that.â She told him.
âWhich part?â he hugged her a little.
âYou calling her Alari honey.â
Rafe smiled a little more. âLuci honey, Kali honey. Itâs always what rolled out of me naturally where you were concerned. Alari honey was no different. You are all my honeyâs. Itâs likely how I will always address you all..â how could he not? âHoney was the first thing I called you.â and it had been when sheâd been 18 and he and Jackâs for the very first time.
âYou look tired honey.â Luci stated, repeating his own words right back at him from that very day. He liked that she could remember that. It was one of his and Jackâs favourite memories.
âDo you know whatâs wrong with Alari?â he asked.
âNo.â Luci shook her head, but heâd then seen the way her eyes had moved towards the boys, then shed simply slipped out of his arms and gone over to be with them.
Rafe got the impression that it was something only Sirens worried about. They would tell him or Jack when they were ready, he wasnât going to push it; it was not really who he was. Or they would simply go off and deal with it as a Siren would
It was right before they were all headed off for dinner when Austin and Sloan strolled out of his office and over to them, sank down across from them âRafe,
, Jack.â
âAlpha Austin.â They acknowledged him.
âRhyse..â the man sighed and shook his head. âPoor girl has suffered a lot at the hands of her own mate.â
âMate?â he asked.
âMm, yes Garry, it seems was her actual Goddess Gifted, though he was cruel and would not accept her rejection, never let her go. She was pretty much a prisoner herself the whole time sheâd known him.â
âGot the scars to prove that. Victor did nothing to help her.
Gave Garry men to help hunt her when she managed to escape.â Sloan muttered.
âHeâs dead, killed by the twins.â Jack smiled at them.
He saw both Austin and Sloan turn and look at the twins, and shake their heads.
âWeâll get to them.â Austin
murmured âBack to Rhyse, She wonât be staying here in all likelihood. After speaking with her, Sloan thinks she knows where she hales from. Iâll contact that pack myself later on tonight and find out. If Sloan is right, Iâll be taking Rhyse home to her family.â
Rafe nodded. âThat would be best for her, though she can stay here, and is welcome here for as long as it takes to hunt her family down, if that is not the case.â
âThank you, very hospitable of you, considering where they ve all come from, and your current circumstances.â
âSanctuary is granted to those who ask, especially females in need. One canât blame them for the cruelty of their Alpha. Itâs also not safe out there for them as rogues. Better to have a pack, and Iâd let them move on when and if they want to.â He stated, it was how theyâd always run, what his own father had instilled in him.
He saw Austin smile and nod, seemed to like that. âIâll need to talk to Silla,â he sighed now. âBut⦠it could be difficult.
She doesnât know me.â
âNot a part of our pack either at this point,â Jack commented, and she wasnât, though she smelled like Addison now. Technically, she was pack-less, all eyes moved to Silla who was over there with the boys and Luci.
âSilla will be part of your Mateâs pack, sheâs part Siren I understand.â
âIn part.â Rafe nodded, theyâd not told the council that.
âThe other part is witch.â Austin stated, âShe has a very distinct presence about herâ the manâs eyes moved back to him and Jack âAs do your sons.â
Neither he nor Jack said anything about that comment.
Austin stared at them for a long hard minute and then stated âIâll continue to use your office while Iâm here. Sloan, could you get Silla please?â
Silla smiled right at Sloan and then got up to go with her, though took Addi with her, called her mother and linked arms with her. He saw Sloan smiling at the young Siren, she seemed genuinely happy about Silla having a new family.
Rafe had seen Addi and Luci use Luciâs phone to show Silla pictures of lake Pend Orielle and Kintla lake, the girl was excited to go and see them, but still patiently waiting for Alari to invite her into the lake that she considered hers.
The words âYour Mateâs Packâ made him curious, a Siren thing he supposed, knew Silla was not going to align herself to him or Jack, had already declined being initiated by him, had just shaken her head at him and stated âSister is Alpha.â So would only be aligned to Alari he knew.
They were going to be two packs in one, it seemed, that was a little weird to think about.
âA Siren pack inside our pack.â Jack had stated simply â
Likely weâll have to partition the council for the lake itself to be pack territory.â
âWell, I guess thatâs easier to do with Austin here.â Rafe had nodded
âHe seems quite nice for a council member,â West had commented
âAre they not normally?â It was Eliza and she was frowning now. Her eyes moved to their office. Her grandmother was in that room and worked for the Council as well.
âI did notice Sloan was staying with Austin while here.â
Jack chuckled âAnd most are impartial and fair.â
Eliza looked a little relieved, then just nodded âGrandma is free to do as she pleases, 500 and unmated. Hes also unmated, I noticedâ¦though heâs quite the large fellow.
âPure blooded.â Luci stated, trying to get the boys away from a sleeping Jewel.
Rafe smiled at her, at them. They were both pouting up at Luci and he wondered if shed ever had to tell them no before. Didrât look like it. âBoyâs,â he stated, drawing their attention to him âYou donât want to wake Jewel and make her cry now do you?â
âNo!â theyâd both whispered, their eyes moving to little Jewel.
âGo and play for a bit, dinner will be soon. Iâll call you.
âGames room?â
Yes . He nodded , and they were gone.
