Morning After Bliss

Caught Up in Between

BECCA

Over the next few days, I enjoyed my time in Logan’s company. I also had the opportunity to take a peek at his daily activities, and damn… It was hard. After one really rough practice, he came back home completely exhausted.

He tried to hide it from me, smiling and joking, but I saw him wincing a few times. I chose the right moment, and when he let his guard down around me, I glanced under his t-shirt. One of his sides was swollen with bruises. Fuck, I was angry with him for hiding it!

At the end of that day, he let me take care of him. He let me coax him into my bubble of love and tenderness. I treated him to a delicious mushroom cream soup and ravioli.

Logan was smitten like a kitten after all this. Well, and I also got my reward for it. He took me to cloud nine with his caress.

I wasn’t able to stop him from buying clothes for me, but I was able to negotiate with him about the amount. We bought only the essential things. As for a car, he let me use his Porsche, and I fell in love with his Cayenne Turbo from the first second I sat behind the steering wheel.

I was leaving to go to New York tomorrow evening. I was torn between two desires. I missed Chase and Jenny, and moreover, I needed to get my stuff from their house.

But I desperately wanted to stay here with Logan. I wasn’t ready to be separated from him, even for a week. I hadn’t had enough of him. Though would I ever? I was very doubtful about this.

My parents called me every day, just to be updated. Mom wanted to know every little detail, while Dad was trying to keep her at bay. He was good at it, like always.

I talked to Kate a few times. She felt better, and her doctor told her that her pregnancy was going fine, and according to the trimester. Even over the phone, I noticed that she became calmer. It was a really good sign.

Lily was texting me, wanting to know the news about Logan and me. God, how was I living without all their interest in my love life?

I was at home waiting for Logan. We were invited to dinner at Leslie’s place. I had already met some of Logan’s team members, but I hadn’t had a chance to meet his assistant for the second time. Until he told me that Leslie and her husband invited us to their house.

I was nervous because I wasn’t sure that I had chosen the right dress for this occasion.

I was wearing a deep green dress with a high neck that hugged my every curve. I looked good in it and it wasn't too revealing.

Yesterday, I asked Logan if he knew any colorists in town or if he could help me find someone. In a few minutes, I was driving to the address he gave me, and now I was back to my natural brown hair color. I can’t blame my friends and family for their comments. I looked better like that.

Logan was in the shower. He had returned home only twenty minutes ago, and now he wouldn't have time to eat the lasagna that I had made for him.

I was sitting on the couch reading news on my phone when it started ringing. As I saw the caller ID, my eyes widened a fraction. Drew was calling me for the first time since he had brought me to Tim's place.

“Hello?”

Of course, I answered. It wasn't even a question. Logan and he had talked. My boyfriend hadn't been very clear with me about the issue. He had only said that Drew and he would be able to solve it.

“Rebecca, hey! Am I bothering you?”

“Nope.” Was he aware that I was in Philly?

“Okay... How are you?”

“Fine.” I shrugged my shoulders. “And you?”

“I am good... Logan and I talked... You don't need to be worried... I am not angry with you...”

Drew was staggering on his words. He was nervous, and because of that, he sounded really strange.

“I am going to visit him next week. We will try to make amends. I will be staying at his house for a few days. His place is great, and I think you will like it.”

Next week? Will Drew be here? Why did Logan hide this from me? Drew wasn’t aware that I was already in Philadelphia. Suddenly, I heard footsteps and fully dressed Logan stepped into the living room. He was wearing a black shirt and jeans, and his hair was a little wet. He was smiling.

“Babe, I think we need to hurry up, or we will be late. Leslie will eat me alive for that.”

“Rebecca? Is that Logan? Are you in Philly?” I raised a hand, making Logan stop moving. He stared at me, and I shook my head.

“Yeah, I am visiting. Tomorrow I will go back to New York.”

“I never thought that you two would move that quickly... I am an idiot.”

“Drew, stop…” I glanced at Logan. He had a frown on his face.

“No, Becca, it’s okay. I am just surprised, nothing more. I wish Logan and you to be happy together. Tell him that I will come on Wednesday. Goodbye.” He hung up.

“Bye…” I said, even though I knew he couldn’t hear my response. My only hope was that it wouldn't make things more complicated than they were before. I turned my head and locked eyes with Logan. “Why is this the first time I'm hearing that Drew is coming here next week?”

“I didn’t want to worry you… I wanted to use your absence to talk to him thoroughly. He said he always knew that you and I could be together, but it’s hard for him.”

“Let’s go, Logan. We can talk about it in the car.” I stood up and walked past him into the hallway. I heard him sigh.

It was the most awkward ride I ever had with Logan. We were silent, both lost in our thoughts. I wasn’t angry with him, honestly. I was sad because I heard the despair in Drew’s voice… Knowing that my happiness was the reason—it opened my eyes.

“Becca, forgive me… I shouldn’t have hidden it from you. My talk with Drew wasn’t very convincing. He kept repeating that he isn’t angry with me and that he wants the best for you and me… He sounded like a robot…”

“I asked him to come here, and when he finally agreed last week… I thought it was a good sign that you wouldn’t be here…”

“Logan, you don’t have to explain it to me. It’s... He sounded so strange... It hurts me to hear him like that…” I reached for Logan’s hand and squeezed it. He smiled at me sadly.

“I shouldn’t have approached you at all... But I am so happy with you, so in love with you... I can’t, Becca... I want to be with you, and I want to make things right with my best friend... I wish that all this could have been different!”

“Logan, we can’t change the past. It’s who we are...” I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, there was a tender smile on my lips. “Let’s try to focus on this dinner. I will fly to New York tomorrow, and Drew will come here... I hope that everything will work out for all of us.”

Logan slowed down and quickly parked his car near a large house. He brought my palm to his lips and kissed it.

“I promise you. I will make everything right. You will be proud of me.”

“I love you, Logan. Remember that, okay?”

“As if I could forget about the words that melt my heart.”

“You’re a real softy, Logan Jones.”

“But you’re still in love with me, which means that I am cool,” I said. We climbed out of the car. I took two bouquets and handed the bottle of very expensive whiskey to Logan.

“You’re cool as a cucumber,” I said and started laughing. Logan’s face changed. I saw his eyes narrowing. “What? What will be your revenge?”

“Revenge is a dish that is best served cold, sweetheart,” Logan replied. We both laughed and stepped onto the porch.

If only I had known the meaning that those words would have for me later, I wouldn’t have been so stupid to let my guard down.
