“You’re always screwing things up! You’ve let this nasty woman, Darlene, mess with us for so long, just look at all

the trouble you’ve caused!”

“Grandpa!”

lan’s voice shot up, his chest heaving with anger.

“You mean Coco’s former owner is the guy Maja into, right?”

Holden stood up, leaning on his cane, clearly not wanting to get involved any further.

“It’s just a guess.”

“A guess?”

lan found this amusing, so much so that he was having trouble breathing.

His voice trembled. If this were true, it would be so ironic.

He had suffered through his allergies to take Coco to the vet, only to end up in the hospital himself.

He had talked about Coco with Maja, hoping for any kind of response.

And now Coco turned out to be a gift from the man she’s into?

If Coco’s around, she’ll never forget that guy.

He felt so foolish to be bothered by a dog his rival gave to the girl he liked.

lan suddenly felt a surge of pain. His grandpa’s words struck him like a bolt of lightning, leaving him numb and

speechless.

He remembered how she had called out an unfamiliar name while he was taking care of her in the hospital. He had

felt upset and asked her whose name it was, was it her first boyfriend?

She said it was the name of Coco’s previous owner.

She cleverly dodged the question without admitting that the man was her first love. She was smart.

When the truth was revealed, his eyes turned cold and deep.

Holden had already left, leaving the room quiet.

Everyone could tell something was wrong with lan, but nobody dared to approach him.

lan gave a sarcastic laugh and said to Jeff, “Take me to the hospital where Coco is.”

Jeff nodded and quickly ran forward to push the wheelchair.

lan sat in the wheelchair, gripping the chair so hard that his knuckles turned white.

His heart ached as if it were being stabbed by a nail.

Half an hour later, he arrived at the pet hospital and saw Maja waiting in the lobby.

The pet hospital only had two floors. Maja was sitting quietly in a chair, unaware of his arrival.

The storm in lan’s eyes seemed to be brewing when he saw her.

He signaled Jeff to stop, then slowly pushed his wheelchair towards her.

Maja heard a noise and looked up at him.

lan’s eyes on her blurred, his lips turned pale, and he asked hoarsely, “Was Coco a gift from the man you are into?”

Maja didn’t know how to respond. Just then, the doctor came out, and she immediately got up to ask about Coco.

But lan grabbed her wrist tightly.

“Is that true?”

Maja instinctively pulled her hand away.

lan felt like his heart was cruelly thrown and trampled on, then discarded in the cold snow.

“Maja, if it’s true, I’d rather Coco be dead now.”

Maja stiffened. At such a crucial time, hearing such words from lan made her feel both extremely angry and
