Chapter 40

It was just a few hours before we were heading out to attack. All the women from the packs had to stay behind with the kids under 16 since it was too dangerous for the others to participate in this. The rest of us were running around, preparing the last things, making sure everything, absolutely everything, was how it was supposed to be.

“I don't think we've missed anything,” Arianna said as we both quickly marched to her house to get dressed. I shook my head.

“No, I don't think so. We're all set as far as I know.”

Everyone except Noah, Victor and I-

“Sam, Noah's waving for you to come out,” Arianna said. I looked at the window and saw Noah with Victor, waiting for me.

“I'll be right back.”

I hurried out to them and shut the door behind me.

“What's up?” I asked.

“We've decided to bring a few more,” Noah said. “Aaron and Mason are going with us. We thought Ari could be useful as well.”

“No, Ari is not going to be apart of this, no way. It's too dangerous.”

“I think I can speak for myself. I'm in.”

I turned around to see Ari in the doorway, grinning but at the same time very serious. I didn't argue with her; if she wanted to participate then she could. After all, it would be the same thing if Noah would argue with me for wanting to come and we all know how much I hate that even though I know he means well.

“Good. Sam, get her some weapons.”

I nodded and Noah gave me a quick kiss before moving on with Victor. Arianna and I hurried back inside the house and to the back, into the weapon room. We all had to have a weapon room in our houses, it was necessary in our lives, even though we mostly fought in our wolf forms.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” I asked her as we picked out swords and arrows.

“Sam, don't even try,” she said, laughing. “I'm going in with you guys and we're going to kick ass.”

“Hell yes we are.” I smirked and we hurried up to her room to put on some fighting clothes. Well, they were nothing special really, just black on black and somewhere to put our weapons. I hid a smaller knife in my boot and hid it with by putting my tights over it. We both put our hairs up in ponytails went down to the livingroom, watching everyone from her window. We couldn't let anyone see us; Noah and Victor were going to take care of all suspicions about our whereabouts so that noone would see our outfits. People would think it's weird that we are dressed in fighting clothes with weapons since they were all fighting in their wolf-forms.

I saw them all line up for take off and I realized I hadn't even said goodbye to anyone. Arianna seemed to have read my expression.

“Don't worry, we're all coming back safe and sound this time.”

“You're right,” I said, determined to kick some ass once we were there. They had taken Jacob, the innocent, funny and loving Jacob who did nothing but put smiles on everybody's faces.

“It's time.”

Both Arianna and I jumped at the sound of Noah's voice. How the heck he had gotten in here without us noticing, I don't know but we were both too occiupied with our thoughts since we hadn't even realized that the pack had already gone and was one the move.

I gave a nod. Mason, Aaron, Victor and Noah and Arianna and myself. Jake's future was pretty much in our hands.

Since the pack was moving in their wolf forms, we couldn't possibly move as humans so we had to split up. Mason, Noah and Victor gave their weapons and clothes to each of us left, Arianna, Aaron and me and shifted to their wolves. The three of us that remained human had to sit on them as they ran in full speed so that we would get there in time, before our pack.

It was amazing, having the wind blowing in my face. It was a feeling of freedom, like nothing could ever stop me. I smiled. I leaned down on Mason, his fur soft against my cheek. Noah had to take Aaron since he was pretty much the strongest one here with Alpha blood and Aaron was heavier than Ari and I. Victor had Ari and Mason had me. Arianna and Aaron tried to talk in the wind but it didn't work out very well so they had to mind-link. I enjoyed the ride in silence, preparing myself mentally for what was coming.

This wasn't just saving Jacob. This was an attack from my pack to the other pack. An attack. A dangerous attack that could cost many lives. I felt like running to my dad and hug him and tell him how much I love him before he went in to fight but I knew that if I did so, I could ruin the entire thing and we all could end up dead.

I had to think positive. We'd all survive if we did this right. We'd all survive if it was meant to be.

Before I knew it, we had arrived. So wrapped up in my thoughts, I hadn't even realized how quick the time passed.

The building or castle or whatever I should call this place I was once held in, was in the middle of pretty much nowhere. We hid behind big rocks that lay a few feet away from the place and Noah, Victor and Mason shifted back to their human forms. We gave them their clothes and weapons and prepared to follow out or plan. We just had to wait for our fathers and the pack to arrive. I hoped nothing went wrong, I hoped they wouldn't stop anything or change the plans if they realized that we were doing this alone. We took a risk by not going with them first and then run off, but we needed the weapons so we had to come here alone.

“Baby.”

I turned around, smiling at Noah who was dressed and ready to go. He took my hands in his and pulled me close to him.

“Are you ready?” he asked. I nodded.

“As ready as I'll ever be. I hope this turns out well.”

“It will. Listen,” he pulled me away from the others a little. “You, Arianna and Victor are taking the window. Aaron, Mason and I will take the door. I want you to have your mind-link open all the time. If anything serious happens to any of you, tell me immediately.”

“Don't worry, Victor has somewhere to take out all his rage now. So do I, by the way. This morning was crazy.” I laughed, shaking my head. “Heightened emotions my ass, I need help.”

“Yeah, I agree.” He grinned as I pushed him lightly. “You're a psycho.”

“Watch it so I don't kill you in your sleep.”

“Psh, you wish.”

I smiled and took his beautiful face in my hands, pulling him closer. I put my lips softly on his and his arms went around my waist, squeezing my body to his. I enjoyed this moment, a moment I didn't know if I would have after this. His soft lips against my own, his breathing chest against mine, his searching hands on my body, my arms around his neck, in his hair.

“They're here.”

We pulled back, our breathing a little heavy. The cold hit me when our bodies parted and we went to see our pack slowly coming in against the building. The guards hadn't noticed anything yet but we were slowly moving towards the back, ready to sprint whenever our pack attacked. Aaron and Arianna were holding hands and I prayed that we would get out okay so that they could be together in peace. Noah was holding my hand as well; he was squeezing it every five seconds, pulling me closer to him.

“Everyone is sure of where they're going and what they're doing, right?” Noah asked in a whisper. We all nodded, standing in a small circle.

“Fight of all the guards you can, Jacob won't go anywhere if we don't take too much time. If we're there too long, they'll know what we're doing and they'll come to take him away. Don't loose sight of each other.”

A roar was heard and we all jumped, quickly turning our heads to see our pack running to attack, loud growls and howls filling the air.

“You ready?!” he hissed.

“YES!”

“RUN!”

We all sprinted, first to the same direction and then it was time to part. In the big chaos, Noah managed in two seconds two grab me, kiss me hard and then be gone. I was dazed for a second or two but Victor pulled my arm and I got back to my senses, running with him and Arianna.

“Be quiet!” I told them in a low voice as we reached the window. “I'll go first.”

“Sam, be careful,” Arianna whispered.

They had fixed the window since I had gotten out. Well, what had I expected? The fight was full on chaotic in the front now so I was sure noone would hear my little break-in. I kicked the window and the glass landed everywhere. I put on my ninja mode and slid in like a pro, feeling very awesome at the moment. Victor chuckled as he saw this and Arianna jumped in after me. Once Victor was in, we knew the real thing had started.

Hands on our swords, hanging down our sides, we quietly tip toed forward. I heard low voices; they were probably debating on what to do with Jacob while the fight was going on outside. I pushed the worried feeling aside so that I could be concentrated on fighting.

“Humph!”

I turned around, eyes wide as I saw Victor being attacked from behind by a huge muscly guard. Arianna and I immediately jumped on him, punching and pulling him down from Vic's shoulders. Once he was free he turned around and punched the guy once in the face and he was out. I, being stunned, just stared.

“Well, now I know not to mess with you,” I said, making Victor laugh.

“Come on!” Arianna hissed. We nodded and continued forward, only to be met by two other guards that were just taking a stroll down our way. Once they saw us we immediately started fighting before they could call for back-up. Victor took one and Ari and I took the other. Ari took hold of his arms and I kicked him in his stomach hard. He crumpled down on the floor but he didn't give up. Victor seemed to have a little problem with his guy as well but I knew he didn't need our help.

My guy decided to jump on top of me and I tried to roll him off, but he was quite heavy. I elbowed him in the face somehow and Arianna kicked his sides. She kneed his head and it was over. Victor was already finished, he stood there watching us with a satisfied look. We didn't speak, though, we kept moving, knowing that we couldn't be here too long.

Finally, we arrived where Jacob was held; it was the exact same place and the exact same cage that I had been in. He was sitting down with his back against us, his head hanging. I knew he was hurt and it triggered the rage even more inside of me. I counted the guards; we had taken down three and there were six more.

I pulled Victor and Arianna back before they saw us.

“Let's all take two each. That good?”

Victor and Arianna nodded and we were off. Sneaking up on them like the freaking ninjas we were, we took one of our two each and started fighting. Immediately, the others began jumping on us. Two with Vic, two with Ari and two with me. Gosh.

As I punched the one in my hands, the other one came up behind me and I elbowed him in the face, taking the opportunity to swing a kick at him as I turned in one swift move. The one in my hands sent a punch in my stomach and I automatically kicked him in the groin. The second one was back at me again and with the same foot that kicked the first one's groin, I sent it backwards against the second guy. I don't know where it landed but it sure landed somewhere. He fell down, groaning, as the first one did but neither of them stopped. Both jumped up at the same time and lunged at me.

So stupid. I shook my head, stepping aside as they collided with each other, their heads smashing into one another. Damn that must hurt. The same moment that they collided, I turned around and kicked one of Ari's guys in the back, making him fly in to the wall, hitting his head hard. She fought off the other one as I continously punched the one I kicked. Feeling another presence behind me, I knew my guys were still at it. I head kicked Ari's guy and ignoring the pain in my head – his head was made of freaking stone or something – I turned around and pulled out my sword, liking the sound it made as it came out of its pocket.

“That's one heck of a stonehead,” I muttered.

Not prepared for a weapon, my second guy got struck by the sword, his mouth open in shock as he fell down to his knees. The first one didn't even glance at his partner, but took the risk and jumped at me while I was pointing my sword at him. He jumped sideways so the sword barely touched him but I saw his shirt turning red with blood.

“Ugh! Get off, fatty!” I groaned as I used all my strenght and even more to run backwards to the wall with half of his huge body on top of my back. He hit the wall and fell down. I decided to use those seconds to knife one of Arianna's guys while he wasn't looking and I succeeded. But now my guy had me from behind, his arm around my throat, choking me. I kicked at him, looking for his groin but he was too tall at the moment. I saw Victor, finished with one and almost finished with the other one. We all had one guy left.

Unintentionally, my eyes landed on Jacob's hurt form and seeing the blood on his face, I saw red.

This was all because of me.

A sound that wasn't me slipped out of my mouth as I put all my strenght in my arms and twisted out of the guys grip. Seeing red, rage had taken over me and I was practically pouncing. Kicking and punching and elbowing him, I knew I had gotten enough of playing around. No one hurt my family.

No one.

One last kick in the head and he was out. Really out, this time. I moved on to Arianna's remaining guy like a robot – even I was scared of myself in my head – I attacked. I took his head from his behind and smashed it into my knee, using so much strenght that his back cracked as I did so. I threw him on the ground. I moved on to Victor's last guy who was almost out and knowing in the back of my mind that Victor had this, he was pretty much already done, I still joined in and for the second time today, used my sword. Placing one foot between his, he fell down and I stuck the sword in him, looking aside as I did so.

I was not a fan of killing people, good or bad. I couldn't do it. But today, it seemed that I had shut off everything and I became a monster. Knowing it was for Jacob made it easier but for now, I shut those feeling completely off and dropped the sword to the ground as a silence washed over the room.

My head was pounding. It didn't hurt, it was just pounding. Like the sound of beating hearts. It was probably my own heart, the adrenaline. Looking up, Victor and Arianna were standing still, breathing heavy and staring at me with wide eyes, like I was a freak.

What had I done? Who had I become? Killing off three people in a row in what, ten seconds?

“Holy shit...”

Three heads snapped to Jacob who was staring at me with awe and shock. All thoughts went away as I saw him again and I ran towards him, Arianna and Victor by my side in no second.

“Jake,” I breathed. “We have to get you out of here.”

I looked at Victor who nodded and pulled out something from his pocket. He played with the huge lock for about ten seconds but those ten seconds were so long it felt like we were screwed any minute now. Where was Noah and Mason? I was beginning to panic.

I had to help them.

“Take him out of here,” I said, my voice emotionless. Is it possible that my brain was working even though it, at the same time, didn't? I felt it. The monster inside of me was coming out again, my body following it's orders.

“Where are you going?” Arianna hissed. I picked up my sword and put it back in its pocket.

“Samantha, don't!” Victor demanded.

“Take him out of here, now.”

“What is she doing?” I heard Jacob asked in a worried voice.

Knowing they wouldn't risk theirs and Jacob's life again, I knew they'd listen to me. I couldn't care less what happened to me; I had to help Noah and Mason.

Until next time, you guys ;)
