Chapter 50 - PART 1
The guards were lined up, prepared to attack. They stood there, like statues and someone was walking around, screaming orders. I was getting closer by the second and I could feel the insecure part of me popping up sometimes. How am I going to get through this? I won't survive the first few minutes if I go in there alone. But I tried to stay positive. I was going for as many as I could. Liz first if I could find her.
I crawled up behind the same rock as I did with Noah and the others, getting a sense of deja vu. Please, let this work. I ran up to the back of the building, hoping the window that we had smashed was still broken. I looked around for any guards looking my way and when I found my moment, I ran, running like an idiot to the small window.
"Damn it!" I muttered under my breath. It was fixed. Of course it was, they weren't stupid. I'd have to take this chance, though. Hopefully, no one was in this cave-like room. They all seemed to be in the front. I took a deep breath and smashed it with my elbow, wincing a little in pain as I felt a small glass pressing into my skin. I pulled it out quickly, not wanting to loose time. I checked my watch; all in all, almost four hours had passed since Leona and Leo had come and we started planning. One hour left until they were leaving. I had to hurry.
I climbed in, jumping down with a thud. I immediately listened in for any guard. I could only hear talking but it was not in this room. Must be just outside the door. I hurried over, grabbing the bat-like but smaller weapon. I took a deep breath and kicked the door open, their eyes right away on me. I swung the bat, hitting the first guard in the head, spending no time in watching him fall as I hit the other one. The adrenaline had kicked in strongly and I was shocked by how quick that had been done. Luckily, there had only been two of them here. As I moved forward, leaving the hallway where I once had killed so many, I listened in for the next enemies. He was behind the wall in front of me and I got ready again. Only one this time; good. He was walking forward, his back facing me. I sneaked up on him and hit him with the bat, letting him fall to the floor.
I continued on, not wanting to waste any more time. I knew my pack had noticed me gone by now, after all, it had taken me three hours just getting here. I had to finish this before they came.
The next few minutes passed on like a blur. Each guard I found fell to the ground, no one except two had the time to fight me and those two had been strong but not strong enough. I had not used my knife yet, thankfully, but I might have too soon. If I could just find Liz I would not kill anyone, just her. The guards would not come after me if she was dead, they were just following orders. I knew that much.
I also knew that she would not be outside, giving orders or anything. She was the leader so she had to have someone that talked to the guards for her while she sat in her room, planning more evil stuff. I was on the third floor by now, two floors left.
Holy shit. Is that Tyler Warren? I hid behind the closest wall, watching him come my way. He looked.. miserable. He was pale with huge bags under his eyes, his blonde hair, that had grown, falling down his face. Why did he look so defeated? Liz must've bossing him around quite a lot.
Either way, he had to go down too. He was coming my way so I had no choice really. I grabbed my bat and stepped in front of him. His eyes widened at the sight of me in shock and I was just about to strike when he raised his hands in defeat.
"Wait!" he half screamed, half whispered. I stopped, not lowering my hand, though. "Don't hit me, I'm on your side."
I frowned. My side?
"Yeah right, Tyler, you're probably following mommy's orders."
"No I swear! I am not apart of any of her plans against you and your pack, I promise you."
"And how on earth am I supposed to trust you, huh? You're her son."
"Yes and I was apart of this all in the beginning, but lately, I've realized that this is wrong."
"Why?" I asked, staring him in the eyes. He seemed geniune but I still could not trust his word. He looked like he was hiding something, too.
"I... I just..."
"Spit it out, Tyler, I do not have time for you!" I hissed.
"I found my mate," he whispered, his eyes darting around as if there were cameras and recorders everywhere. "She's the daughter of the pack chef. I didn't know until I went down there one day and bumped into her. She's rarely here but she was that time and after that, I...-"
"What?! Did you tell Liz?"
"No! Of course not!"
"NO?!" I hissed, stepping closer with my bat. I could feel the rage build up inside of me. "How can you not tell your mother, Tyler?! Hundreds of lives are on stake here and you refuse to tell your mother that you found your true mate?! I'm going to hit you just for that, you stupid idiot!"
"No, please! Look, even if I tell her, she won't stop. She's gotten crazy, her mind is set on you and no one else. She was just evil from the start, we all were, but now... it's like she's lost her mind."
"Please, she lost her mind the day she was born. No offense." I sighed. "Look, I have to get going, there is no time for this. If you are honest, you're going to follow me and help me, you hear me? And if you are lying to me, I'll kill you in a split second so don't even dare to trick me into something, you get it?"
He seemed freaked out enough so when he nodded, I continued to move.
"Let's go. Where is your mother?"
He just stared straight ahead.
"Tyler, I will repeat my question only one more time. Where is your mother? You are aware of the fact that I am here to bring her down, whether you are with me or not?"
"Yes... I just... She's still my mother."
"Then get the hell out of here before I change my mind and put you down like the rest of the guards."
"No. I told you, I am on your side. But I will not participate in harming her." He looked like wanted to cry, like he was getting a panic attack. I just nodded and pulled him with me as we ran up the stairs.
"Lead the way," I said. He nodded and started walking towards the next staircase that led to the last floor. I followed him without a word, preparing myself mentally to face Liz, the biggest and hopefully last enemy I will have in a long time. We passed many doors, too many to count but I had my eyes set on the double doors that were in the back, straight ahead. Tyler walked with his head high, leading me as if he was leading the Queen herself. He looked like he was tired of her shit, but I still did not trust him completely.
"It's that door. Only one guard stands in there just as you enter. I will leave you to do this now."
"Thank you. And where are you going?" I asked.
"I'm getting Tanya and we're out of here." He seemed to have planned this for a while. I was glad that he was finally taking control over his own life.
"Good for you." I nodded. "Well. Until next time, Warren."
"Until next time, Riley."
I watched him leave and turned around towards the doors. Okay, this is it. Here we go. I walked over to the double doors and knocked. It took her eight seconds to answer. Meaning she wasn't expecting anyone. Good.
"Who is it?"
I didn't answer, waiting for the door to open. I knocked again. I heard her mumble something and the guard responding. Finally, his footsteps came closer and the knob turned around, the door slowly opening. As soon as I saw just a small glimpse of the guard, I immediately pounced. He was well prepared because he pulled out his weapon right away. With a hammering heart, I hit his head with the bat first in the groin then two times in the head and walked straight in, shutting the door behind me.
Liz stood there gaping with her eyes wide open in fright and shock. She quickly tried to mask it, though, putting on a serious face.
"Hello, Liz," I said, smirking.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Liz was speechless, I could see it but by now, she was masking it very well. She was angry, too. The way her lips curled slightly upwards revealed her current emotion.
"How is the plan going?" I asked casually, slowly taking a few steps closer towards her desk. She was standing behind it, as if it would protect her. "It's almost time to leave, isn't it?"
"Why would I leave when I have you here now? You walked straight into my trap, stupid girl." She smirked and for one long second, I freezed inside. She laughed evilly at my visible reaction. "You see? I am always one step ahead of you, Samantha. Why are you trying so hard to win when we both know I will break you."
Plan B. Don't judge, but this is being improvised.
"Um... Liz? Are you okay?"
She frowned, obviously confused by my sudden change of topic.
"Liz?" I repeated. "Did something happen? Are you okay?"
"What are you talking about? Shut up and listen to what will happen right now."
"Liz! It's me, Andrea! What is going on? I just came to give you some information from Tyler."
"T-Tyler? Andrea? Stop confusing me, you are trying to mind trap me!"
"Mrs. Warren!! I will call in the doctor because you are not okay. You are very pale and you are hallucinating!"
"I... I don't understand."
Oh my God. Is she seriously falling for this? I've always wanted to try this! She is so under my spell right now, thinking that she's imagining everything. In your ugly face.
I walked over to her and she screamed, taking a step back.
"Liz!"
"Don't touch me!"
"But... It's me, Andrea, Tyler's assistant?"
"Tyler does not have an assistant! You are Samantha Riley!"
"Samantha Riley...? Mrs. Warren, Samnatha Riley is dead... She died a month ago. Don't you remember?"
"No, no... You are Samantha Riley... You must be."
I shrugged, and with a smirk,
"Well, if you insist."
With that, I plunged the knife into her. Don't even ask me how this could be so easy because I am just as shocked. Her wide eyes stared into mine as my heart was beating harder and faster than ever before. A part of me could not process what I had just done and another part of me was shaking with relief and shock and fright and all kinds of mixed emotions. I felt as if I was going to faint.
I let her fall to the ground, bleeding and backed towards the front doors. Is it really over? I wanted to run away but even before I could turn around, two pairs of hands caught my arms and a sack was pulled over my head.
"No! Let me go!!" I trashed around, hoping it would help but I knew deep inside that it wouldn't. I was trapped. Again. The only difference was that this time I would probably not survive.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The sack was pulled off of my head and I growled at the people in front of me. One, two, three, four, five... Twelve guards and Liz in front of me. I looked to my side and was shocked to find Tyler there, chains around his wrists just like me. This was some seriously disturbing drama. And how the hell was Liz standing in front of me, all healed and shit?
"Did not expect this, did you?" she asked, as if knowing what I was thinking. Nope, I had not. Bitch.
"Well, to be honest, your arrival was not expected entirely either. But, as always, you end up being locked up."
"And as always, I will get out," I said with a smile. "So don't be so proud yet."
"Oh, I'm sorry to break the news for you but this time, you're not getting out, sweetie. Anyway, it looks like my son here betrayed me. Well, actually, you are not my son anymore. Because my son would not betray me!" She slapped him at the last part, screaming out the words as she did so. The slap echoed and Tyler looked down, his jaw clenched. I felt the rage coming back. She had to go down. Seriously.
"And you," she said, turning to me. "You have made me very angry! I will not play anymore games with you! Since Tyler here betrayed me, you both will die instead of mating and I will happily hear the announcement of your death!!!!" her voice was loud and evil and very disturbing. She sounded physcotic which she probably was.
"DESTROY THEM!" She screamed to the guards and walked out of the room. Oh God, once again this felt like deja vu. How to get out of these chains, though? Ignoring my screaming heart and the fright that was stuck in my throat, I tried to brainstorm.
The guards started moving, one guard positioning himself in front of me and one in front of Tyler. The rest of the ten guards backed up behind them, obviously not the ones to kill us. Great. I looked at Tyler but he was focused at something straight ahead. He lifted his eyebrows very quickly one time and after that, I watched everything in confusion and then understanding.
Suddenly, two of the guards from the back row pulled out their knives knives and ran to the two guards that were going to kill us, slashing their throats. The blood exploded from both of them and landed on both Tyler and I. The "good" guards turned around to the rest of the guards that were first too shocked to move and then started attacking them, slashing and plunging in knives in each other.
I had no time to ask or say anything because while one of the "good" guards was fighting the three remaining "bad" guards the other guard came running to us and unlocked our arms, immdiately running back and helping his companion.
I did what Tyler did and helped with the fight and without warning, when we thought we were finished, a stream of new guards ran in, attacking us.
"Shit!" I cursed, hitting everyone I could with my bat. I did not go untouched, though. I felt blows from every side and something hard hit my head, leaving me dizzy. I turned around to face the one who'd hit me and lifted my bat, sinking it into his groin. A knife slashed my upper arm as I turned to the next, blood gushing out. Hissing out in pain, I ignored it for now, and in one swift move grabbed my knife and plunged it into the guard in front of me. I saw one running to Tyler with a big sword towards his back and hurried over, jumping on his back before he could reach him. I slashed his throat, almost puking as I did so but continued to the next.
There were so many guards around us that I was confused. I tried to make sure not to kill the two good guards that had helped Tyler and I but it was hard because they all pretty much looked the same. I had to focuse only on those who tried to hurt me which where not few, let me tell you.
I got a punch in the face and I fell down, my back hitting the hard stone underneath. I hissed, pushing myself up but ended up being pushed against the wall instead, a knife coming right at me. I managed to get to the side literally last second, the knife grazing my skin and plunged my own into the guard.
"Samantha!" Tyler called out.
"Still here!" I reassured, hitting one with the bat at the same time. I kept waiting for more but when I stopped and looked around, all the guards were down. Including one of our good ones. Tyler and the remaining good guard stood there, looking at him with sadness for a few seconds and I joined them, thanking him quietly for being on our side.
"He died for a good thing," Tyler mumbled. "We need to hurry."
I nodded, running after him and the guard. My body was screaming at me to stop, to rest, to drink but I couldn't do it, even if I was in big pain. I had to keep going and kept thinking of Noah as my motivation. A little bit more and I'd get to see him. A little bit more.
"Watch out!"
A new flock of guards came running towards us and this time, not just human guards, but werewolves as well. This could not be good. I grabbed my two knives and held them ready for any guard that would run up to me. I plunged into every body that I saw running, not caring about anything else that moment. One guard stopped to deal with me and he was way too strong for my current shape. I kept fighting him, throwing a punch at him and trying to block his but he got me way more than I got him. Finally, Tyler helped me and I moved on to another one.
I was pushed down from behind, my face hitting the hard floor. Someone stepped on my left hand and it literally felt like the entire hand was broken. I screamed loudly at the pain, which would not be heard anyway through the loud roars and growls. I managed somehow to get myself up with my right hand and held the bat with the same one, hitting the closest guards. A werewolf set his eyes on me and I immediately felt his contact. Oh Gosh no.
It started running towards me and I quickly changed my bat for my knife, pressing it into his body as it arrived. It whined but either way bit my leg just as I ran away. Another yelp escaped my lips and I breathed hard as I fought off the last guard that jumped on me. Tyler and the good guard ran towards me, helping me take him down.
We didn't waste any time chatting and continued to run. How I ran with my bitten leg, I don't know but everything in me was aching anyway so I couldn't even feel it by this point.
We managed to get out of the building and that's when we saw Liz. I don't know why she was surrounded by only five guards but I was happy to see that. They came running and while Tyler and the guard striked back, my eyes were set on her. I was finally going to kill her, this was my chance. She saw me coming and without any guards beside her, she looked scared.
"Guards!!" she screamed, her eyes never leaving mine. I didn't run, I didn't hurry, I just walked like I normally would, holding the knife hard in my hand. This time, I was pressing it into her heart and I would not miss an inch. No guards heard her through the noise and I knew that this time, it was happening.
I stopped in front of her, her eyes almost falling out as her hand flew around with her knife, trying to get me. I blocked her which was not hard because she obviously had not trained enough.
"It's over now, Liz," I said calmly, looking into her eyes. As soon as I opened my mouth, she stopped waving her knife around. Good; she knew it was over. She was giving up.
With one last look, I held the knife up and plunged it straight into her heart.

Sometimes silence is good, in many different ways. Sometimes, it means horror, sadness, death. In this case, it meant exactly that. The territory that once held the presence of Liz Warren and her evil plan to destroy mine and my family's life was now empty and filled with silence. Silence of defeat and of death.
We stood there, watching the lifeless bodies in front of us, including Liz Warren. While pain had filled up my entire body, inside and out, all I could feel was relief. Relief that it was over and relief that I could finally live freely with my family and friends. While pain had filled my body, inside and out, I could also feel sadness. Sadness for Tyler who had lost his mother, even though she had been evil and not herself. Sadness for the guards who had lost their lives, not for fighting for something good but for following orders of a mad woman. And while pain had filled up my entire body, inside and out, I felt longing for my family and my mate and my home.
"It's over," Tyler breathed.
"It's over," I repeated in a whisper.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Tyler, the guard, whose name I had learned was James, and I were all sitting on the grass on the front of the building, leaning against the stonewall behind us. Neither of us was strong enough to go all the way home, to my pack, so we could do no more than just sit here and hope that they were on their way. The pain in my body came stronger than ever once I sat down and rested and now I was speechless because of it. I could not talk nor move so all I did was breath slowly, wondering each time if my ribs were broken. Tyler had broken his right leg and had bruises and cuts everywhere and while James was, too, he had gotten stabbed in the lower stomach so he was trying to stop the bleeding, groaning every now and then.
It was when Tyler had fallen asleep and I was just getting there, too, when I heard something. Voices. I forced my eyes open and followed James look to a crowd of people and werewolves running towards us from the hill and then slowed down. It wasn't just a crowd of people, I realized, it was my crowd of people and werewolves. My heart started beating faster, as if it had come back to life and I nudged Tyler as hard as I could.
"Wave your hands," I said, my voice hoarse from not talking a while. I lifted my right arm, the one that had a good hand that was not broken. My broken one was on its way to heal but it took time when broken bones were healing; it wasn't like cuts and bruises. This could take days while the other took a few hours to one day, maybe a bit more over one day. Either way, I waved slowly, ignoring the pain that was running through my arm and connecting with my body. Everything hurt so bad.
"We're here!" I forced out.
I could hear them calling my name and tears of joy and relief filled my eyes. James and Tyler helped me call after them, and all three of us waved our arms. Finally, after a minute or so, they reached the territory and Noah was the first one I saw, running faster than ever towards us, his face filled with so much worry that I literally felt it.
"Oh my God, you're so hurt," he said, his voice small and cracking, eyes filled with tears. He put his hand carefully on my arms, and I lifted them, forcing myself to move. I would not give up, especially not now when it was over and we were free from Liz.
"Why would you do this?" he asked me in a whisper as he lifted me up. Mason and the rest came running to us, helping James and Tyler and thankfully they did not ask questions. Yet. Noah half carried me over to the wolf who I instantly recognized as my father. Tears dropped from my eyes as Noah helped me on and I caressed his fur as he whined at me.
"Hi dad. I know, you're mad, we'll deal with this later."
He growled in response. Once Tyler and James were on two other werewolves, Mason picked out a few people to go control the building and the area around it.
"I'm staying here," Noah said, holding my hand. We watched them disappear and he turned towards me, holding my face in his hands. "Sam, this does not compare to anything that you have done before. How can you just leave and do that to us? To me?"
"I did it for you," I said. "I did it so that she would leave you all alone and just take me. I didn't go down without a fight anyway, even if I knew I was going to die. I didn't come here to just let them kill me, Noah."
His eyes were teary and it was killing me. But he would not make me feel guilty over coming here. I did not regret a thing.
"I know that, Samantha, but if you would have died-"
"But I didn't. Please, Liz is gone, we're finally free from her." I felt dizzy. I was tired and dehydrated after putting so much energy and strenght into the fights. "I'm tired."
"I know, baby, I know. We're going home." He gave me a soft, careful kiss before walking to the remaining pack. "Alright, we're heading back! Quickest pace but careful with the injured ones! Let's go, now, now, now! I'm right behind you!"
Everyone started to move, inlcuding my father. Noah helped me lie down somehow that was not entirely comfortable but better than having to hold myself in a sitting position for the long way back. My father started running, his feet barely touching the ground as the building started to leave my sight.
The last thing I saw was Noah shifting into his wolf-form, running towards us.
