Chapter 43

Cold Showers

SEBASTIAN

“Daddy, is Jayda no longer coming to see me?” Aaron asked for the sixth time.

Sebastian smiled. “She’s on her way, buddy. She should be here any time from now.” He poured some water into Aaron’s sippy cup and handed it to him.

“Thank you,” Aaron said as he collected the cup from his father.

Sebastian linked his fingers with Aaron’s tiny ones as they went to the living room to continue watching Aaron’s favorite cartoon.

Sebastian had left work a little bit early today to pick up Aaron for the weekend. From the moment they got settled in his car, the little boy had been asking about Jayda.

Unfortunately, Jayda had to stay late at work because she had an impromptu meeting with important members of the firm.

A few minutes later, the doorbell rang.

“Jayda is here?” Aaron asked as he rose to his feet excitedly.

Sebastian chuckled. “I guess so.”

He went to the door with Aaron behind him.

JAYDA

“Hey!” Jayda smiled at the love of her life as soon as he opened the door for her. She stepped in and gave him a quick kiss on his lips. After they pulled away, Sebastian kissed her forehead.

Jayda was about to ask about Aaron when she felt someone tug at her dress. She looked down and came face-to-face with a smaller version of Sebastian smiling widely at her.

She returned his smile and dropped down to his height.

“Hi, Jayda, my name is Aaron. I’m happy you came to see me.” He said with a smiley face.

“It’s nice to finally meet you, my love.” Jayda placed a kiss on his cheek before pulling him into a hug.

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian’s heart melted as he watched the duo interact. He felt fulfilled.

“Daddy said my baby brother or sister is growing in your belly,” Aaron said as soon as Jayda pulled away from the hug.

“Yes, sweetheart. Your younger sibling is growing in my belly.” She pointed to her small bump.

“Do you want to feel it?” she asked. Aaron nodded. She placed his tiny hand on her belly for him to feel his younger sibling.

Sebastian squatted near them and joined their little discussion.

“Do you think it will be a boy or a girl?” Sebastian asked his excited-looking son.

“A girl,” Aaron said proudly.

Jayda chuckled. Truly, she’d wanted to have a male child first, so he could take care of his younger sibling. But now, she didn’t mind if her baby was a girl, since Aaron would be there to be a good big brother.

“A girl?” Sebastian reiterated.

Aaron grinned, responding with a nod.

“Brett has a baby sister. I want a baby sister too, so she will be my best friend, and I will play with her all the time,” he explained.

Even without Sebastian telling Jayda that Brett was Aaron’s friend at preschool, she was able to figure that out.

“We shall see about that,” Sebastian concluded as he pushed aside a strand of hair that fell across Aaron’s face.

“I made something for you, Jayda,” Aaron announced.

“For me?” Jayda smiled.

Aaron nodded and went to his small backpack. He took out a paper with some drawing and painting on it. Then he came back to Jayda and Seb.

“Aw, this is beautiful,” Jayda said, trying hard not to get teary. Even though the drawing was far from being professional or perfect or manageable, she could see what he’d meant it to be.

“This is you, and inside this big belly is my baby sister,” he explained.

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian smiled proudly. He was glad Aaron made an attempt to do something related to art.

Jayda pulled Aaron into another hug. “Thank you, honey,” she said, then kissed his forehead.

“I also got something for you,” Jayda announced. She signaled for Sebastian to pass her the gift bag she’d left by the door.

Inside the bag was a board game and a dinosaur puzzle.

“Wow.” Aaron smiled as he admired the package his new toys came with.

“Do you like them?” Jayda asked. He nodded.

Aaron placed his toys on the floor, then hugged Jayda. “Thank you.”

“You are welcome, sweetheart.”

Aaron picked up his toys and ran to the living room to play with them.

“Thank you.” Sebastian smiled proudly as he wrapped his arms around Jayda.

“For?” She raised an eyebrow.

“For getting along with Aaron.” He kissed her. “He’s been asking for you since I picked him up.”

She smiled. “He’s a sweet kid. I love him already.”

“He loves you too.”

JAYDA

They chatted about their days. Jayda was surprised to learn they hadn’t had dinner yet. Aaron had wanted to wait for her. Her heart filled with emotion for the little boy who was already so dear to her.

She spent some time playing with Aaron while Sebastian warmed their dinner. After they ate, she took care of the little boy’s bath, and he fell asleep between them on the couch. They both took him to bed and stood over him.

This was their family, and Jayda loved it. She was so happy to be here with Sebastian, his son, and soon, their baby would join them.

“He looks so much like you. He has your nose, eyes, smile, and your personality. He’s so adorable,” Jayda said as she watched the little guy sleep.

Sebastian chuckled and wrapped his arms around Jayda’s waist.

“I know. I really hope I can make it up to him and also be a good role model to him and his baby brother or sister.”

“You’re amazing, you’ll do just fine,” Jayda assured, placing a kiss on his lips.

Nothing could take away their happiness now.
