Chapter 75
A Farewell After Being Reborn
The bodyguards didnât seem surprised by this. After escorting Sage over to Shane, they left the office.
âHave a seat, Ms. Joyner.â Shane had his legs propped up on his desk while he swiveled a wine glass
in hand. He said in a playful tone, âDo you know why I asked you to come here?â
âNot really.â Sage replied calmly. âI also want to apologize for what happened with Priscilla last time. I
misunderstood you.â
Shane scoffed. âAt least you know to apologize first. Donât you think lan should also apologize to me for
wrecking my bar?â
Sage knew Shane was looking for a bone to pick. She said begrudgingly. âIâm sorry. I didnât know lan
would bring his men over or cause such a big commotion.â
Sage only apologized, not mentioning the fact that Shane had wanted to abduct her prior.
Sure enough, Shaneâs mood lightened up. He pointed at a large bottle of XO on the barâs countertop
and shot Sage an amused look. âIf you know youâre in the wrong, you should behave accordingly, too.
âFinish that entire bottle of wine, and we can start talking about my mental compensation afterward.â
Even someone who had strong alcohol tolerance wouldnât be able to stay upright after downing such a
large bottle of wine, not to mention Sage and her soâso tolerance.
Sage said, âI canât drink this wine, Mr. Morrison. What happened at the bar last time was purely an
accident. Iâm sure youâve done your investigation as well. I had nothing to do with the fact that lan knew
about Priscilla, so thereâs no such thing as me purposely trying to mess with you.â
there is such a thing as lan wrecking my bar for your sake.â
Shane swiveled his wine glass and continued, âYou act as if lan has no feelings for you and as if youâre
determined to oppose him. Yet he cares about you in everything he does. Arenât you just using me to
spice up your relationship, then?â
It made sense that Shane saw things this way.
When Sage got into the car accident and got trapped in the bar, lan showed up just in time to save the
day. But little did Shane know that lan only helped Sage because of her identity as âMrs. Holcombâ, not
because he cared for her.
âWhy donât we make a bet, Mr. Morrison?â Sage suggested.
Amusement surfaced on Shaneâs handsome features. âWhat are you betting on?â
Sage said, âIf I can revive Mimosaâs reputation and make it meet its investorsâ standards, youâll forget
about the unpleasant things that happened before and continue working together with me as agreed.â
Actually, even if Shane hadnât âinvitedâ her over, she would still want to chat with him.
After all, Farsight Investment was the most likely to oppose Holcomb Corporation. Sage wouldnât even
want to miss out on this opportunity, even if it was for herself.
Sage used to think Shane would help Priscilla unceasingly. But after Priscillaâs explanation, Sageâs
perspective of Shane had changed again.
âIf you can successfully make Mimosa go public, youâll win your bet with lan from before. Itâd be a win-
win situation,â Sage said.
Shane looked at Sage sarcastically, neither confirming whether he believed her or not. âWhat if you
lose?â
Sage pointed at the wine on the bar countertop. âIâll drink from that until youâre satisfied.â
Shane snorted. âWhat good would you be to me if you die from overâdrinking? Iâd be wasting my own
wine, too.â
Sage stayed quiet.
Then, why did Shane suggest she drink the whole bottle of wine earlier?
âWhat punishment do you think is most suitable, Mr. Morrison,â Sage asked.
Shane replied, âIf you lose, I want you to make lan apologize to me in public and say that heâs no
match.
for me.â
Sage refused without hesitation. âI canât do that.â
