The Halloween Party

Dealer's Girl

Lexa POV:

As Madi and I neared the front door I saw how many people were inside. A lot.

I unconsciously reached my hand out and grabbed Madi's. My other hand held the trident out in front of me and people moved aside, almost clearing the way for us.

"Hey, it came in handy!" Madi yelled over the music.

I smiled at her over my shoulder. "Do you see your friends!?" I yelled back.

"Not yet." I couldn't hear her say it but I read her lips. "Wait! I see them!" She shouted, moving forward and running with her heels as she led the way. I saw Harley Quinn, Pennywise, Michael Myers, Jason and Ghostface all standing by the alcohol.

"Madi!" Harley Quinn saw us first. The rest of the group faced us.

Madi greeted the girls with hugs and she waved at the boys.

It was quieter in the kitchen but there were still about ten people in here.

"Lexa, these are my friends. That's Lizzie, then Liv, Chase, Matt and you know Jack." Madi pointed.

"Hey." I nodded at them.

"Heyyy, love the costumes." Liv smiled at us, she was sipping on a red solo cup.

"Thanks." Madi smiled. "I love yours."

"You guys want some drinks? I'm already four in if you wanna catch up." Lizzie smiled, holding her drink in the air.

"Oh, I'm good." Madi shook her head before looking at me. "Lexa?"

"I'm good too." I waved it off. I'm usually a drinker at parties but I needed to stay sober for if Jack tries to pull anymore shit against me or Madi.

Jack removed his Jason mask. "Wow, you're not drinking? What a shock. Aren't you, like, a raging alcoholic?"

"Aren't you, like, a raging asshole?" I mocked his words. His friends laughed.

"Damn, man, she cleared you!" Chase shoved Jack's shoulder.

"I love this song! Come on, Chase!" Lizzie grabbed Chase's arm and pulled him back to the living room.

"Come on, Ghostface. Dance with me." Liv smiled. Matt and her followed next and it left Madi, Jack and I.

"Madi?" Jack questioned, as if I wasn't even here.

"Oh, uh..." Madi looked back at me. "Lexa, wanna join us?"

"You go. I'm not a dancer." I smiled at Madi.

"You heard her. She's not a dancer." Jack smirked at me before pulling Madi towards the dance floor. Madi looked over her shoulder at me once more before they were out the door.

I swear I was gonna punch that asshole in the face.

I was about to walk to the living room when I smelt something familiar. Weed.

My head drifted towards the backdoor where I saw a bunch of people smoking out there. I recognized some of them. Only I did business with them at parks and alleyways. Classic drug deal locations.

I stepped outside and saw them laughing with each other.

"You guys high yet?" I spoke up. They looked towards me.

"Holy shit, Lexa?" One man slowly smiled. "What are you doing here? I didn't think you were a high school party girl."

"Nope, just the dealer for them." I smirked. "Can I?"

"It's your weed." The guy, Aiden, smiled. He passed the joint and I took a hit.

"Wait, what are you doing here?" Ruby, a girl I deal to, asked.

"Here with a friend." I answered, blowing the smoke away.

"Jack?" Aiden asked.

"He's not my friend." I shook my head, taking another hit.

"Then who?" Ruby asked.

"Madi." I answered.

"Aw, she just moved here, right? Wait, I've seen her in class. She's so shy and nice and you're..." Ruby trailed off.

"Not?" I smirked, handing the joint back to Aiden.

"You said it, we didn't." Aiden joked.

"Does she do drugs? I wouldn't have guessed. Well, my parents don't know I do drugs either." Ruby shrugged, taking the joint from Aiden.

"No, she doesn't do drugs." I shook my head.

"Then...why are you here with her? Not to be mean but you're not really a 'go to a party with a random chick' kinda girl." Aiden furrowed his eyebrows.

"Are you dating her?" Ruby asked. I could hear a hint of jealousy in her voice. It wasn't wrong to say she's flirted with me before. And it's not wrong to say I've flirted back. But that's all it was, flirting, and that's all it'll be.

"Question for another day." I winked before looking back inside. "I better get back. Let me know if you wanna buy more." I heard them say their goodbyes before I walked back into the kitchen.

I placed the trident down, because that thing was a pain in my ass to carry around, before walking into the living room. The music got louder as I saw Madi in the middle. Her pure white dress stood out as everyone else had dark, bloody, scary costumes on. Even Lizzie and Liv's costumes stood out, but not like Madi's.

She stood out to me. It was almost like she was the only one I noticed. Her eyes connected with mine as they swept over the crowd. That's when I saw the real smile across her face. I weaved in and out of people until I stood five feet from her. Of course Jack's dumbass came right in between us but I not-so-lightly shoved him aside.

I reached both my hands forward and she lifted her own. Her little white handbag hung from her wrist as she held my hands. I lifted my right arm and she spun under.

"Having fun!?" I asked over the music.

"Yeah! I might need a drink though!" Madi yelled back.

I said nothing but pulled her back towards the kitchen. I saw Jack glaring at me as we walked by. I couldn't give a single fuck what he wanted. When Madi and I entered the kitchen she plopped down on the chair.

"I'm sweating." She fanned herself. "Is there any water?"

"Fridge." Liv's voice came from the backdoor. She must've stepped out in the cold air to cool off.

I opened the fridge and saw a bunch of water bottles. They weren't open yet. I pulled one out and walked over to Madi. I opened it and held it out for her.

"Thanks." Madi smiled, chugging the water.

"You're welcome." I said, placing my hand on her shoulder and noticed she really was sweating. I lifted my hand and began to fan her. She looked at me gratefully. Liv poured herself another shot and looked at us.

"Are you sure you don't want any? Either of you?" Liv asked.

"I'm good." I shook my head.

"No thank you." Madi replied.

We stayed for another two hours. Madi and I were sitting outside and I was smoking another joint.

"Why do you smoke?" Madi questioned. Everyone was inside for a beer pong game but Madi insisted she needed the fresh air.

"Uhh...it feels good?" I answered, blowing the smoke away from us.

"How did you start? When did you start?" Madi asked.

"I was, I think, fifteen. I lived on my own and needed a way to make money. I applied for a couple jobs but never got an answer. Next thing I know I'm dealing drugs because not everyone suspects a kid, maybe? I don't know what they were thinking." I muttered.

"Who?" Madi asked, leaning closer to me.

"The guys who deal me the drugs." I answered.

"Woah, so you're a dealer for the dealers." Madi cracked a smile.

"Technically." I nodded. "I was sixteen when I tried it. So two years now."

"When something's so addictive it's hard to stop. I get that...do you wish you could stop?" Madi asked, getting serious.

I wanted to know why she understood what I said. Was she a secret drug addict or was there something else she was hiding?

"At times. I figured my life is already fucked anyway. I don't think you can come back from drug dealing." I put the joint in the ashtray.

"Of course you can. You can always come back from anything. I can help you." Madi told me.

"I-I don't need help. I'm fine." I shook my head. I looked down at my phone. 11:32pm. "It's getting late, you ready?" I ordered an Uber and it said it would be here in five minutes.

"Yeah." Madi stood. The two of us walked through the house and I picked up the trident I put down.

I watched as Madi said goodbye to her friends. They waved to me too. Well, not all of them. Jack gave me a once over and I was sure he was telling Madi how he will take her home and protect her from the big bad scary drug dealer she brought to the party. Madi waved once more and returned to my side.

We walked outside just as the Uber pulled up. Madi gave the driver her address and we were off. As we drove through the neighborhood I saw candy wrappers on the ground. Madi and I went trick or treating when we were eleven. It was a crazy night.

Seven years ago:

Madi and I were dressed for Halloween. She was a princess and I was a monster.

"I really hope I get a Twix." Madi smiled.

"If you don't I'll give you one." I told her as we walked to our next house.

"We've been to seven houses and still no Twix." Madi frowned.

"I have a feeling this next one will have it." I said.

"Boo!" Someone jumped out of the bushes. Madi screamed, jumping into me. The guy, dressed as a scarecrow, began to laugh. I moved forward and kicked him in the dick. The man groaned, clutching his lower region.

"Asshole." I cursed, moving Madi towards the next house.

"Lexi, you just cursed!" Madi nudged me.

"He scared you. Are you okay?" I asked, knowing she was 100% okay.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks." Madi smiled. "Maybe you should've been a hero instead of the villain."

I knocked on the door as a lady opened it.

"Trick or treat!" Madi and I said.

"Oh, how cute. Here you are." The lady put a handful of candy in each of our bags.

"Thank you." Madi and I smiled.

"You're welcome. Happy Halloween." The lady said as we walked down the stairs and back towards the street.

"Madi." I spoke up.

"Yeah?" Madi faced me.

I held out a Twix for her. "Happy Halloween."
