Chapter 239
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
Awave of disappointment washed over Millie. It seemed like she was just getting ahead of herself.
As Millie disappeared into the hospital, Marcusâ gaze hardened into an icy stare. He beckoned to a figure lingering in the corner
of the parking lot.
Approaching Marcus, the middle-aged man seemed uneasy. It was Jonas Gomez, Brockâs former secretary.
Faced with Marcusâ frosty demeanor, Jonas was intimidated.
Internally, he conceded it was no surprise that Marcus was the youngest heir of the Thomas family.
âYou've been following me throughout this whole time. What do you want from me?â asked Marcus.
âMr. Thomas, Iâm Brockâs secretary. Iâm here on his behalf. Heâs been captured by some casino thugs. They've locked him in a
small cage and are torturing him! He's... in an awful state, sir,â Jonas explained.
âDidn't he get out last night?â Marcus retorted, barely interested in the conversation.
Jonas was dumbfounded. Brock was overseas now, and yet Marcus seemed to know his predicament in detail. He was surprised
and amazed of how wide Marcusâ network was and how capable the latter was.
âHe did manage to escape. He was saved, but heâs still terrified. The casino mob won't let it slide. Please, Iâm begging for your
mercy.â
âHis issues have nothing to do with me. You shouldn't be coming to me for this,â
Marcus responded dismissively, patting the hood of the car.
âThat is a fact, sir, but please donât leak his location to anyone. He has come to realize the errors of his ways. Please, have
mercy on him,â Jonas pleaded.
âBrock started this whole mess. He canât just end it whenever he feels like it. You may leave now.â Marcus shot Jonas an icy
glance. It was too late for Brock to be afraid now.
âMr. Thomas! Sir, please...â
Jonasâ pleas were cut short as Marcus headed towards a jewelry shop.
Meanwhile, in Grandmaâs hospital room.
âGrandma, is the porridge too hot for you?â
âNo, itâs just right.â Grandma smiled, savoring a spoonful of the porridge. She seemed much happier after seeing Millie.
âIs Mr. Thomas always tied up with work? I've heard itâs quite the trend to go ona honeymoon these days. Has he taken you on
one yet?â
Millie knew that her grandmother was asking about how well Marcus treated her.
âOf course, he has! His work keeps him quite busy lately, but he does intend to visit you once he finds the time,â she answered.
