Chapter 683
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
Celesteâs anger mounted. âDo you honestly think Marcusâ heart belongs entirely to you?â
Just then, Marcusâ commanding footsteps resonated through the room.
âMom, why are you here?â he asked.
The roomâs atmosphere shifted, growing chilly with Marcusâ imposing presence.
A twinge of guilt passed through Celeste. She hastily withdrew the card, hoping Marcus hadnât seen it.
She deflected, saying, âYou havenât been home for so long. I came to see how you were.â
Marcusâ arrival was poorly timed. Celeste hadnât yet secured Millieâs agreement to the divorce.
Always shrewd, Celeste was determined to send Millie away without allowing Marcus to become aware
of her plans. Any hint of her intentions might jeopardize her relationship with her son.
She was determined to make sure that Millie would leave on her own.
âIt wonât be long before I return,â Marcus assured her.
His eyes fell on the silent Millie, and he sensed that something was amiss.
âYou were severely injured before. How can you heal properly here? The air is polluted. You should
return today,â Celeste remarked.
âMy wound is nearly healed. Thereâs no need for concern,â Marcus replied calmly.
âReally? Let me see your wound,â Celeste said, her voice laced with doubt.
It was only the previous day that Rhea had discovered Marcusâ injury. Now, to hear Marcus claim it was
healed seemed strange to Celeste.
Marcusâ face was clouded with impatience as he said, âItâs true, Mother. I think you should head home.â
Celesteâs discomfort was palpable. Although she was his mother, Marcusâ attention had been fixed on
Millie from the moment heâd retummed, as if he feared she might be bullied by Celeste.
What a cunning woman Millie was! Marcus had clearly fallen under her spell.
He was even annoyed by his own motherâs concern.
With a warning glance at Millie, Celeste reminded Marcus, âTake care of that wound and make sure it
doesnât become infected.â
Having said that, she left.
Millie understood the unspoken warning in Celesteâs departing look.
