Chapter 744
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
There was a long, momentous silence as Fiona weighed Giovanniâs words, uncertain if she could
believe him.
âWhy meet tomorrow, though? You know itâs risky for us to be seen together.â
âIâm leaving Preagend soon. I canât go without seeing you one last time. I need to say goodbye.â
Fiona was quick to dodge the request. âLeon will be with me all day tomorrow. I canât possibly get
away.â
âIf you refuse, Iâll visit you in the hospital tomorrow,â said Giovanni.
âAre you threatening me?â Fiona countered.
Meanwhile, when Marcus returned home, he found Millie asleep on the sofa, her lips parted slightly.
The sound of the door opening stirred her, and she awoke with a start, hand flying to her mouth. Upon
seeing Marcus, relief flooded her face. She hadnât even realized she had drifted off to sleep, but his
safe return was all that mattered.
Merely seeing her like this warmed Marcusâ heart.
âWhy donât you rest in the bedroom instead?â he asked, his voice gentler than usual.
Before departing earlier, he had instructed her to sleep well, not to stay up late worrying about him.
â[ just couldnât fall asleep. I thought Iâd sit in the living room for a bit,â Millie stammered, trying to justify
herself.
âWhat were you doing out so late?â she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
âItâs very late.â
Marcus looked at her, his lips thinning before he answered with surprising honesty,
âI went to confront Giovanni. But you donât have to worry. After tomorrow, Fiona will no longer pose a
threat to you.â
He wanted to explain to Millie the shocking discovery about Fionaâs plastic surgery and Loisâ
involvement.
Millie sniffled and remarked, âYou know whatâs strange? Fiona looks a lot like I did when I was
younger.â
Back when she was younger, her eyes were small, and her face was thin. Now her eyes had grown,
and her face was fuller. She had transformed from an ugly duckling into a swan.
Marcusâ heart stopped. What theâ¦?
A chill ran down his spine, and it coursed through every vein in his body.
âHey, are you okay?â Millie asked. She waved a hand in front of his face, noticing how his expression
had shifted into something dreadful.
