Chapter 1454
Love After Marriage: Mr. Lancaster's Hidden Wife
Chapter 1454
Carl turned to Sherry with a smile. âPresident William
here says that heâs your uncle. Why didnât you tell me that your uncle would be here? Iâd have prepared something nice for him.â
Matthew seemed very flattered by this and stated courteously, âYou're too kind, Young Master Sager.â
Sherry did not even spare Matthew a look as she turned to Carl. âIâm an orphan. | donât have parents nor do | have any uncles.â
Matthew turned stoic.
Carl shot a look at Matthew and seemed exasperated. â Then who is this?â
Sherry remarked contemptuously, âI have no idea, heâs probably making things up.â
She grabbed a glass of wine and promptly walked away.
Carl quickly followed after her.
There were a few men who joined in the circle midway through the conversation.
When they saw how Carl and Sherry walked away without even bothering to excuse themselves, they turned to Matthew with a
disgusted look on their faces, belittling him with their expressions.
â| canât believe it, weâve been duped.â
âWhere does he find the audacity to tell Young Master
Sager that heâs President Sherryâs uncle? If | were him, | wouldnât dare to stay here a moment longer.
Matthew was speechless.
With that, they shied away from Matthew as if he was a contaminated patient.
Matthew reacted with equal parts disbelief and horror.
Sherry and Carl went to a remote section.
She began to empty the contents of her wineglass.
Carl stood next to her, his shoulders against the wall, and stared at her with a mesmerizing shine in his eyes. (( Sherry, where
did you go off to just now?â
Sherry answered defectively, âTo the bathroom, why?â
âWhy did it take you so long?â Carl seemed suspicious.
Sherry was still very evasive with her answers. âYou
know, stomach issues.â
âThen what happened to your lipstick?â he leaned in closer as he asked this until his face was inches away from hers.
Sherry backed away immediately and seemed unnerved by this question. âI went to eat something after that, | probably
accidentally smeared my lipstick without noticing.â
Carl smiled coyly. âI see, it looks more like you made out with someone while you were in the toilet. Are you sure thatâs not what
happened?â
Something quivered in Sherryâs eyes, she quickly turned away and pretended to grab something to eat to get away from this
chain of questioning.
Carl was relentless. âSherry, Young Master Sager didnât try to take advantage of my absence and get to you just now, did he?â
Sherry was boiling over with irritation by this point and snapped. âCarl, could you shut up for a second?â
Carl cocked an eyebrow and gently danced the tips of his fingers around Sherryâs bottom lips. âIt seems like my future wifey is
being harassed by another man right in my presence, and you're telling me Iâm not allowed to ask about what happened?â
Asharp look surfaced in Sherryâs eyes. âDo you want me to slap you?â
Carl hurriedly withdrew his hand. âDonât be mad, | was just kidding around.â
Sherry ignored him and continued sipping from her wineglass.
Carl remained standing next to her, only without touching her now. From time to time, he would dart his eyes across the crowd of
people.
In the far back of the crowd.
There stood a tall and slender man who was leaning against the wall. Underneath his lens was a piercing and ominous gaze
which fixed itself intently on Sherry.
He clenched his fingers tightly around the wineglass and seemed like he would break it with sheer force.
âJohn.â Suddenly, Julieâs voice sounded from behind him.
His expression softened slightly and his tight frown departed as well. Still, his eyes were fixed in the direction of Sherry and Carl.
Julie walked up to him and followed his gaze to see Sherry and Carl at the opposite edge of the venue. She remarked after that,
âSo the president of Sager Corporation they were talking about all this time was Sherry. That's a surprise.â
John took a sip of wine and did not utter a word.
Julie added, âThe two of them seem very close, theyâre not together, are they?â
Johnâs eyes flashed with ice as he turned to Julie sharply.
Julie had never seen John confront her with such a sharp look. She turned pale immediately and enquired worriedly, âJohn,
what's the matter? Was it something | said?â
