Chapter 1729
Love After Marriage: Mr. Lancaster's Hidden Wife
Chapter 1729
Sherry bent over to carry Caprice into her arms.
Caprice was more perceptive than she would appear and immediately noticed Sherryâs swollen cheeks as soon as she bent
over. She raised an eyebrow and promptly pointed it out. âMommy, why is your face swollen?â
Sherry quickly came up with a story. âMommy accidentally tripped while rushing back home.â
Caprice seemed worried. âDid it hurt?â
Sherry felt a warm fuzzy feeling rising in her chest and assured Caprice with a genuine smile. âIt only hurt a little when | fell, but it
doesnât hurt anymore.â
Caprice gently grazed it with her fingers.
Sherry caressed Caprice as well and carried her into her arms.
Aunt Wanda had already prepared dinner for them.
John was the one who bought the grocery today though it was Aunt Wanda who cooked them. She seemed to worry that Sherry
would not eat the food knowing that it was John who bought them and made a point of informing Sherry, âMiss Sherry, Caprice
and | picked out these vegetables at the supermarket this afternoon, these are very fresh.â
Sherry smiled and thanked her, âThank you, Aunt Wanda.â
Aunt Wanda smiled and was very courteous. âNo need, itâs my pleasure.â
Sherry asked her to sit down and eat with them.
Halfway through the meal, there was a knock on the door.
Aunt Wanda went to get the door for them.
Sherry turned to the entrance and was greeted by the sight of several policemen.
She was taken aback by this and turned to look at Caprice.
Caprice was very curious about the men in police uniforms and seemed like she had many questions to ask.
That was when John suddenly turned to Aunt Wanda. âWanda, why donât you and Jason take Caprice and play with her for a
bit?â
Aunt Wanda immediately understood what this meant. She promptly carried away Caprice who barely had her fill yet.
Before Caprice could even utter a word of protest, she was carried outside by Aunt Wanda.
The policemen walked into the apartment.
They sat with Sherry in the living room where she relayed the events of the evening to them. She told them how she was
suddenly assaulted by a group of thugs while she was waiting for an elevator downstairs.
John sat next to her the entire time.
After the police officers recorded her statement, they asked her, âWere there any injuries?â
âThey swung a bat at my leg and slapped me.â After a brief pause, she continued, âThankfully, my... my husband arrived in time
and chased them off.â
One of the police officers who was a female officer observed the wounds on Sherryâs leg and her swollen cheeks. She suddenly
asked, âDo you know these men? Can you think of any reason why they would hurt you?â
â| donât know them. Most of the people | know are from my company. | remember them telling me to learn to keep my mouth shut
as they slapped me. If | had to guess, they were employed by someone who wanted to send me a message.â
The officers were intrigued by this and proceeded to further verify Sherryâs identity.
Sherry showed them her identity card and told them about her role at Sager Corporation.
The officers exchanged looks with each other. This new piece of information seemed to spill some light on the case.
The policewoman turned to Sherry. âMrs. Sherry, we'll conduct our investigation right away. We'll catch these thugs as soon as
we can. Also, we recommend you lodge an injury report.â
âAlright.â
The officers left shortly after that.
John handed Sherry a glass of warm water and spoke to her softly, âHave some water. I'll take you to the station to lodge an
injury report.â
Sherry was certainly feeling thirsty after all that talk.
She took a gentle sip from the glass before she rose to her feet and limped toward the door.
John frowned upon seeing this. He promptly approached her and wrapped an arm around her waist to support her.
Sherry shot him a look. âLet go of me, | donât need your help.â
âI'll do that as soon as we get into the car.â He refused to yield and proceeded toward the elevator.
Sherry heaved a long sigh.
She decided to let it slide and accept his help, especially since it hurt to walk.
