Chapter 1779
Love After Marriage: Mr. Lancaster's Hidden Wife
Chapter 1779
Queenie smiled warmly, then she turned to Sherry.
Sherry recognized Queenie at last and was astounded. âWhen did you get here?â
Queenie beamed with joy. âJust this morning. | came here with my mother and Peter.â
âIs Madam Stockton here too?â
âYeah, my mom is inside.â
As soon as she said that, Madam Stockton stepped out of the room and revealed herself.
She was dressed rather plainly, her hair tied back in a common ponytail. She looked thinner and frailer than when Sherry last
saw her.
Her lips quivered. It looked like she wanted to say something to Sherry but did not know how to start or where to start.
Sherry seemed visibly affected to see Madam Stockton here.
When John was still in the intensive care unit, Peter had trouble reaching him at all, so he ended up contacting Jason. It was
Sherry who then took the phone and told him about John taking a knife for her to protect her.
Madam Stockton must have found out about everything that happened from Peter. Sherry was worried that Madam Stockton still
harbored resentment towards her. Even if she knew that what happened in the past was all an evil ploy of Julieâs, she already
had a poor impression of Sherry due to past events.
With this in mind, Sherry put Caprice down and handed the takeout container to her before urging her to go in, âCaprice, why
donât you go inside with Aunt Queenie and give the food to Daddy?â
Caprice nodded obediently.
Sherry darted a glance at Queenie who nodded and took the hint. She took Caprice by her hand and lead
her into the ward.
Sherry looked at Madam Stockton and gestured politely. âMadam Stockton, letâs have a chat over here.â
Madam Stockton remained silent the entire time.
AS Sherry stepped to the corner, Madam Stockton followed after her.
Sherry approached some chairs and gestured. âPlease, have a seat.â
Madam Stockton tucked her lips and told her with a tint of reservation in her voice, âAlright, sit with me, please.â With that, she
sat down. She was a bundle of nerves.
Sherry was slightly startled by the quiver in her voice, but she proceeded to sit.
Madam Stockton made to speak. There was a blank look on her face, and she still had trouble forming her thoughts.
Sherry considered for a moment and asked stiffly, âAre you feeling better?â
âMuch better.â Madam Stockton smiled politely. At last, she began to speak, âItâs all thanks to you saving me from the burning car.
If not for you, | wouldnât even be alive and talking to you this moment.â
Sherryâs eyes became filled with emotions. She said with a faint smile, âNo need, anyone would have saved you.â
âThereâs more to it than that. | was very nasty toward you back then and was constantly trying to tear John away from you.â
Madam Stockton expressed with a tired sigh, âBut you looked past all that and chose to save me.â
Sherry smiled and spoke sincerely, âYou are Johnâs mother. | would do everything | can to save you.â
âThank you. | just thought... What | did in the past was wrong. If it wasnât for me, things would have gone much better between
you and John, and all those terrible things would not have happened.â After a pause, she continued, âIt was right for John to take
that knife for you, especially considering how terribly he treated you back then. You could even say he deserved it. Julie... that
wretched woman almost killed you. Iâm just glad that you managed to make up with John after everything that happened.â
She grew emotional as she spoke and quickly reached for a handkerchief to wipe her tears.
Sherry was starkly surprised. She was not expecting such a heartfelt confession.
Before the start of their conversation, she assumed that Madam Stockton would tell her off again and warn her to keep her
distance from John.
It seemed like after Julieâs true nature was exposed, Madam Stockton came to realize how unjust she had been all these years.
Sherry pursed her lips and tried to say something, but found herself at a loss for what to say.
It was around this point when Madam Stockton suddenly took out an intricate little red box from her purse. She opened the box.
It contained an exquisite emerald bracelet with excellent craftsmanship. It looked like it had been well preserved for many
decades.
âSherry, | want you to take this,â she said as she handed the bracelet over.
Sherry was very appreciative but kindly refused, âMadam Stockton, | know that you mean well but | simply canât take it. Itâs too
expensive.â
Madam Stockton explained with a smile, âThis is a family heirloom passed down through generations. Johnâs grandmother gave
it to me a long time ago, and | think itâs time for me to pass it on to you.â
It was an heirloom passed down to the daughter-in-law.
Sherry was appalled by this. Still, she stood her ground. âI think you should keep it for now.â
It was all too sudden.
Madam Stockton seemed crushed to hear this. âYou... you still canât forgive John, can you? Is it impossible for you to make up
with him?â
