When they got home and lay in bed in their bedroom, Qin Chu held his wife in his arms and asked her about the incident.

“Mian, did Secretary Zeng see you to ask about Zeng Rou’s whereabouts?”

“Yeah.” Huo Mian nodded.

“Then why did he summon Director Wu? He’s already half retired now and doesn’t know anything about the issue.”

“I think he did it to pressure me,” Huo Mian guessed.

“What did you say?”

“I told him the truth. I truly don’t know where Zeng Rou is.”

Huo Mian felt frustrated. It was quite puzzling that a big adult had disappeared into thin air; there was no witness or any clues in the surveillance footage.

“I’m actually afraid when I think about it. If they could kidnap Zeng Rou from South Side without leaving a trace behind, then they could have done this to you, too.”

Worried, Qin Chu tightened his arms around Huo Mian as if he’d lose her at any moment.

“They all think Yan might have done it, so…”

“I didn’t communicate with her. I feel that something’s not right lately and decided to not call her; I’m afraid I’d bring trouble to her.”

Qin Chu was a cautious man. Although he suspected Lu Yan had done it, he didn’t call her yet.

“Honey, you’re very careful now.”

“Of course. Since I found Zeng Rou used that cutting-edge device on the yacht, I know I can’t be careful enough.”

“What shall we do now?”

“We wait and see. Secretary Zeng is powerful but can’t do anything to you. Besides, his daughter is an adult; her disappearance is not your fault.”

The whole thing was weird and put them on guard.

It was 8PM, and Gao Ran had just finished a high-level meeting.

Working late was an every-day thing for him as the chief.

When he walked out of his office, he heard his colleagues were talking about something animatedly.

“What are you talking about?” Gao Ran asked with a chuckle.

“Chief Gao, something happened to Little Chen. Did you know that?”

“What happened?”

Gao Ran was alarmed. He didn’t want any of his colleagues to be in trouble.

“We don’t know the details yet. It’s said she got off work and saw a thief steal a purse from a woman; she chased after the thief and got hurt.”

“Where is she? Where?” Gao Ran was worried.

“We don’t know if it’s true or not. We got the information from the Baihe Road Branch but haven’t seen her yet.”

Gao Ran called the branch immediately and found it was true.

Immediately, he drove to the Sixth Hospital on Baihe Road.

When he arrived, Chen Yuning had got her wound dressed.

“Chief Gao.” She was pleased to see him.

“What happened?” Gao Ran frowned.

Before Chen Yuning could reply, the male police officer of the branch said, “Chie Gao, even a woman doing office work in the headquarters is so badass. Little Chen is very brave and chased after the thief who stole a woman’s purse. The thief had a knife, but Little Chen still caught him. Wow. I can’t believe she does office work… You’re a great trainer.”

Hearing his words, Gao Run had a general idea of the whole thing.
