Su Yu and Mrs. Su were outside Huo Mian’s room. They were going to go in to check on her, but Huo Mian’s sad cries made them freeze in their steps.

Su Yu’s hand shook furiously on the doorknob.

“Yu…” Mrs. Su felt bad for her son, but Su Yu didn’t respond. He was focusing on choking back his tears.

After God knows how long, Huo Mian’s cries finally turned into sniffles and Su Yu found the courage to knock on the door before walking in.

The first things he noticed were Qin Chu’s blood-shot eyes, and Huo Mian’s tear-stained face. She was wiping her tears off with some tissues.

“Mrs. Su,” Qin Chu greeted Mrs. Su politely.

“We heard that Mian woke up, so we wanted to come see her,” Mrs. Su said gently.

“I need to speak to Mian’s doctor, I’ll be back.” Qin Chu then left the room, and Su Yu and Mrs. Su made their way to Huo Mian’s bedside.

“Mian…” Su Yu paused, not sure what to say.

Huo Mian stared lifelessly at Su Yu. “Su Yu, my baby’s gone. He’s mad at me and doesn’t want me to be his mother.”

Su Yu’s eyes immediately filled with tears. “Mian, I’m so sorry. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t…”

“Mian, I’m so sorry that this happened because of us,” Mrs. Su apologized as well.

“It’s not your fault, this is fate…”

“Mian, you just had a miscarriage, you should take good care of yourself. No crying, okay? Once you recover, you can try again,” Mrs. Su consoled.

“I don’t want any more children, I’m so tired. Mrs. Su…”

“Mian, I’m sorry, I…”

“Don’t apologize to me, Su Yu, we’re closer than that… I’m just glad you’re okay.”

Upon hearing this, Su Yu’s heart jerked into a ball of pain. He wanted to say something else, but Huo Mian lied back into bed and pulled the sheets up to cover her face. She was done talking.

“Mrs. Su, Su Yu, you should leave. I’m a little tired… I’d like to get some rest.”

“Mian, don’t be so hard on yourself, you still have the twins and Chu.” Mrs. Su was worried that Huo Mian might try to hurt herself.

“I’ll be fine, Mrs. Su. I’ll survive, no matter how hard life gets.”

This woman sounded very much like Huo Mian.

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Su and Su Yu had no choice but to leave. On their way out, Mrs. Su made sure to remind the bodyguards to alert Qin Chu right away if something seemed off with Huo Mian. She was genuinely worried that Huo Mian might hurt herself.

They were mistaken… after Su Yu and Mrs. Su left, Huo Mian laid still in bed. When she realized that the room was empty, she pulled up the covers and tried to hide her laughter.

“Hahaha, what a bunch of fools! I should be awarded ‘Actress of the Year’. Huo Mian, watch me destroy everything you hold dear… your love, your friendship, and your family.” Leila muttered to herself, an evil smile lurking in the corner of her mouth.

The fact was, Leila was surprised that she successfully made the swap in the first place. The explosives Huo Mian had developed were very deadly, successfully killing her people as well as Huo Siqian.

However, Leila was smart. She quickly ran into hiding right before the explosion, leaving her unscathed from the scene.

Then, before Qin Chu left, she found a dead fetus so her ‘miscarriage’ seemed real. Leila was certain this plan would work; after all, Qin Chu wasn’t about to suspect her while he was this sad, right? Who would order a DNA test on a dead fetus at a time like this?

Leila’s plan was meticulous. She easily swapped lives with Huo Mian without anyone noticing.
