Not only Felix, but Theon and Zayne were also ready for action. Nyx hadn’t expected things to develop this way. She worriedly wanted to intervene but was held back by Aurelius.

“Nyx, it’s fine. They know what they’re doing,” Aurelius said, holding her waist and pulling her into his arms, secretly enjoying the scent of her.

He was worried Nyx might soften and allow Kai to stay close to her, so he softly added, “The diplomatic department has been waiting for Kai to return. Marshal Lane won’t go too hard on him, and he’ll be allowed to rest and heal.”

Hearing this, Nyx understood. Even if Aurelius hadn’t said anything, she wouldn’t agree to have Kai act as her bodyguard. That just wasn’t appropriate.

The sparring place Felix had chosen was by the destroyed chair in the garden.

Kai lowered his head, silent, giving no response. It seemed like he silently agreed.

Felix threw a punch. His speed wasn’t fast. This punch was just a reminder to Kai that the fight had begun.

Kai could have easily dodged or blocked it, but he stood still and took the blow.
