Chapter 487
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Without her companion, Rachel lost interest in admiring the beautiful scenery and simply returned the
way she came.
In the distance, the young socialites led by Hannah saw Rachelâs return, their eyes filled with probing
as they sized her up.
Even though they had seen Rachel return, the young socialites did not approach her. It was obvious
that they were deliberately isolating Rachel.
These were all childish tricks. Rachel naturally wouldnât take them to heart.
With no one to disturb her, she was glad for the peace and quiet.
Rachel sat in a quiet corner, searching for information on her phone.
âWhatâs the most suitable gift for a boyfriendâs birthday?â Mary read out Rachelâs search term with a flat
voice.
Instinctively, Rachel turned off her phone screen and glared at her friend angrily. âDonât you make any
sound when you walk?â
Mary noticed Rachelâs slightly swollen lips and a meaningful smile flickered across Maryâs face. âYouâre
the one whoâs distracted.â
Sensing her gaze, Rachel lowered his eyes and gently rubbed her fingers across her lips. âSince youâre
here, help me think of something. Davidâs birthday is in a few days. What should I get for him?â
Resting her chin on one hand, Rachel looked slightly troubled. She held a glass straw between her
fingers, stirring the ice in the crystal glass as she sighed softly. âIt feels like he has everything.â
âWho said so?â Mary Green said, âThereâs something he definitely doesnât have.â Rachelâs eyes
immediately lit up. âWhat?â
Mary smiled and said seriously, âI heard that Mr. Jones has been alone all these years and is known for
not getting close to women. All these years, he has been chaste. He definitely lacks a womanâs love.â
Rachel fell silent.
A womanâs love?
She shouldnât have expected Mary to help her think of an idea.
Seeing that she wasnât happy, Mary moved closer to her. âRae-Rae, tell me quietly. Have you guys
done it?â
âIt?â Rachel looked at her in confusion.
Mary wiggled her eyebrows, hinting, âYou know.â
Rachel frowned slightly. After staring at Mary for a moment, Rachel realized what Mary was referring
to. Rachelâs fair cheeks stained with a hint of red now, she answered. âNo.â
Hearing this, Mary slapped her hand onto the table. âSo you should definitely listen to me!
Rachel didnât answer her.
Rachel crossed her legs and stirred the broken ice in the crystal glass roughly. After hesitating for a
while, she stammered, âHe⦠I canât possibly take the initiative for such a thing, right?â
âCould it be that he really has some unspeakable hidden illness like what everyone says?â Mary asked.
Rachel inexplicably thought of an indescribable scene, her wrist feeling slightly sore. She rolled her
eyes. âNo!â
If he really had a hidden illness, he wouldnât have tormented her so badly a few days ago.
Mary was puzzled. âThen why?â
âHeâs worried Iâll regret it. Rachel said, looking past Mary to the old building behind her. âHow long does
the meeting usually last?â
Mary followed her line of sight and said, âIt used to end within an hour or two.â
No one knew how long it would take this time.
After all, Marinaâs appearance and what she had said in the restaurant had sounded a warning bell for
the Four Families.
They had gradually realized that the power in Seaxas might have to be reshuffled, and they were also
uneasy about losing their status.
What they could do now was to support each other and unite against a common enemy.
Rachel took a deep breath and put down the glass in her hand. She stood and looked at Mary.
âRestroom?â
âLetâs go!â Mary quickly stood up and looped her arm with Rachelâs.
