Chapter 161
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
With tears brimming in his eyes, Adrian said, âYour dad was a standâup quy Always steady and meticulous, which is why Connor thought highly of him and took him in as an adopted son. He and Christopher had known each other since they were kneeâhigh to a grasshopper and were like brothers.
But Christopher was heartless. He knew the truth about everything, but after your fatherâs death, he treated you and your mom like dirt. He knew Joshua died for him. That car crash was supposed to be his end, but Joshua took it for him! He knew all of it âAdrian, donât get yourself worked up.â
âMs. Zimmer, I really owe your family an apologyâ
Adrianâs voice choked up. He was thin and his hair was white. His eyes were red and swollen. He was only in his forties, but he looked like an old man.
âDuring your fatherâs car crash, I was driving the truckâ¦â
Allisonâs mind went blank.
âRight after the accident, I went to see your mother. I told her everything I knew, and then I turned myself in. I spent ten years in jail, in agony.â Adrian had been released from jail just six months ago.
She began to tremble, âMy father and brotherâ¦â
âMs. Zimmer, I really owe you an apologyâ
Suddenly, Adrian fell to his knees in front of her, crying.
Allison began to choke up and was unable to speak.
Adrian continued, âI despised Christopher. He was your motherâs boyfriend, but he ditched her for Leah just for the glitz and glam. Your mom and Leah, were related, but their backgrounds couldnât be more different. Leahâs dad was a real estate tycoon, while your parents were just ordinary workers. When Christopher realized marrying Leah would be more beneficial, he dumped your mom.â
Allisonâs hands slowly formed into fists.
âI hated Christopher then. He was a coldâblooded bastard. The Flanagan family was on the rise and their connections were expanding, but they also made enemies. They snatched a business deal from someone who swore to make Christopher pay. I thought I struck gold when they approached me. They offered me a chunk of change to stage a car crash to off Christopher and promised to get me off the hook.â
âI was tempted, I admit. Not only would I get twenty grand, but I could also get rid of Christopher, and even better, I could get out of a tight spot. It was a noâbrainer, I agreed without hesitation.â
Hearing this, Allison understood everything.
Her lips trembled and her voice was barely above a whisper, âButâ¦.but the ones in that car were my father and brother, notâ¦Christopher.â
âMs. Zimmer, I truly owe your family an apology.â
âIn my motherâs closet, thereâs always been a card with twenty grand in it. Even when she was sick and needed a kidney transplant, she wouldnât touch it. Is that from you?â
âYes.â Adrian had given it to Grace right after he got the money.
But to his surprise, she hadnât touched a dime in ten years.
Because that money was the price of her husbandâs and sonâs lives.
âMs. Zimmer, can you tell me how Grace is doing now?â
âSheâs sick; lifeâs been toughâ¦â Facing the man who had cost her father and brother, Allison couldnât find it in her to hate him. âAdrian, my momâs been locked up in a mental hospital by Leah. She had a kidney transplant, but sheâs been in a coma because of severe rejection.â
âWhat?â
