Chapter 1039
Married at First Sight
Duncan too knew that Liberty did not need his help-she had the Stone and York families helping her now.
After a moment of silence, he said, âAnyway, go ahead and do your thing. Iâll head back lest my mother calls to urge me again.â
âAlright. Have a safe drive, Mr. Lewis.â
Liberty walked Duncan out of her shop.
Duncan looked at Hankâs car and asked Liberty. âThatâs your ex-husbandâs car, right?â
âI saw him get out of it. Itâs probably his new car.â
Hank had changed his wife and his car too.
If Zachary had not punished Hank, Hank would have been living very comfortably. He would have money, a new wife, and a new carâ¦
Duncan wanted to walk over and poke a hole in Hankâs tires, but when he thought of how Hank would likely be unable to leave for a while with his tires punctured and would stay in Libertyâs diner to eat, Duncan gave up on his thoughts.
âIn the future, if that family comes to try and harass you again, just give me a call and Iâll get someone to come over and help you since I work close by. All the business owners here are renting stores from me, so Iâm just protecting my tenants.â
Duncan said frankly, as if he really had no other motive for doing so and that it was entirely for his rentersâ benefit.
Liberty smiled and said, âThank you, Mr. Lewis. Since the last time you brought your people over to help me chase off Mrs. Brown and her daughter, they havenât appeared again in the past few days.â
Hank had probably chased that trashy older sister of his back home too.
Liberty saw Duncan off as he got into his car and quickly drove away.
When he returned to the Lewis family residence, Duncan noticed there was a car he had never seen before parked in his home. As he got out of his car, he asked the employee who came out to greet him, â Whose car is that?â
âThatâs Ms. Harmonâs car.â
âMs. Harmon?â
Duncan frowned. Was there anyone surnamed Harmon among the people his family mingle with?
âSheâs the daughter of Madamâs friend. She came over from Bellville and I think sheâs in Wiltspoon for some business. After the Madam found out, she enthusiastically invited her over to stay.â
The employeeâs explanation raised Duncanâs defenses. That mother of his was trying to matchmake him. again, was she not?
As long as it was a young woman from a rich family, his mother would devise ways to make them meet.
Duncan did not say anything more and walked into the main building with big strides.
The moment he walked in, he heard his motherâs happy laughter.
âDuncanâs back.â
Mrs. Lewis was stirred into loud laughter, amused by Lily Harmon. Seeing that her son was back, she beckoned him over and when Duncan came closer, Lily Harmon stood up and greeted Duncan smilingly,â Hi, Duncan. Itâs been a while.â
âHave we met beforeâ¦?â Duncan asked.
Lily answered, still smiling, âWe met once twenty years ago. You might not remember.â
Lilyâs mother was Mrs. Lewisâs old friend and classmate. After getting married, both the ladies seldom met up, but they continued to keep in touch.
âI donât remember things from twenty years ago.â He was only sixteen at the time-right in the rebellious stage.
âDuncan, this is Franâs daughter, Lily. You donât remember?â Mrs. Lewis explained.
Duncan hummed in acknowledgment. He did not have much of an impression left of Mrs. Harmon, much less her daughter.
They only met once twenty years ago. How old was Lily at the time?
How could he possibly have an impression of a little girl from twenty years ago?
âLilyâs in Wiltspoon for a bit of business. When I heard Fran mention it, I asked Lily to come over and have fun. Sheâs not familiar with the area, so tomorrow, you should take her sightseeing and familiarize her with Wiltspoon,â
